Man I love living in Canada, specifically Western Canada.  There is a chance that I'm just extra happy because hockey's back on.
None the less we constantly get told it's the best place to live in and also to invest in.  the fact is that it's true, we have good paying jobs and have an environment where entrepeneurs can propsper.  With all that the results are opportunities to enjoy and  spend money.  I'm pretty sure the next 10 years are going to be fascinating.  We have a new airport, billions spent on a downtown entertainment area including a new … (1 comments)

edmonton: Edmonton winning economic battle with Calgary EDMONTON JOURNAL - 12/05/12 02:16 PM

EDMONTON - Edmonton’s economy and housing market have been improving and are outperforming Calgary on several fronts, according to an analysis from the Conference Board of Canada.
These yardsticks include faster economic and house price growth this year, along with more housing starts in four of the past five months. The city’s housing markets should remain buoyant, fuelled by healthy population advances, said Robin Wiebe, senior economist with the board’s Centre for Municipal Studies.
Edmonton’s relatively large public administration sector — twice the size of Calgary’s as a share of total output — helps balance the local economy and has … (1 comments)

edmonton: Everyone Has a Fever - 02/01/12 11:53 PM

It sure feels like Spring Fever has hit early this year. I think it’s due to two major factors, one being the weather, and the other is just pent up pressure that the market has. How can you not feel good when you spent the last 3 months mentally preparing yourself for minus 30°C of bone chilling cold and it doesn’t even come close.

Its February now and March is often thought of as the first month of spring. I don’t know about you but knowing that spring is only a month away makes me feel warm inside. … (4 comments)

edmonton: Challenges remain, but momentum building in Alberta economy - 06/16/11 12:14 PM
Not a boom, but maybe a decade or more of prosperity

By Gary Lamphier, edmontonjournal.com June 15, 2011

EDMONTON - Two years after the Great Recession ended, Alberta's energy-fuelled economy is again flexing its muscles.
With oil prices tripling from their 2009 lows, drilling activity on the upswing, unemployment falling and oilsands investment surging, Alberta looks poised for a new growth supercycle.
In fact, compared with the beleaguered U.S., the debt-ridden economies of Europe or the sluggish growth in Ontario and Quebec, Canada's energy superpower looks like a rising star once again.
Just don't call this new growth … (1 comments)

edmonton: First Quarter Housing Sales on Normal Track; Prices Up - 04/13/11 11:23 AM
Edmonton, April 5, 2011: REALTORS® expect the local real estate market to follow a well-worn annual sales track. However, like the stock market, large external forces can skew the market. In 2010, the threat of increased mortgage rates and a change to mortgage qualification rules accelerated sales in the first quarter and caused a sales slump in the following months that took all summer to work through. This year there are no external influences on the market and it is operating normally again.
According to the REALTORS® Association of Edmonton, residential sales in the first quarter are normal for this … (0 comments)

In the last 10 years gatherings like this have been dwindling with the number of agents showing up, and this is for all Real Estate flagships across the board, but this one was different.  Maybe it’s because it’s spring, maybe it’s because the market is showing many good signs of recovery, or maybe it just might be because there was extra effort put into this event and there was superb information available … (0 comments)
