I've always wondered what those pesky little bugs were???

Via Amy Jones (Chandler, Arizona RE/Max Excalibur):

midges in sun lakes oakwoodI had never heard of a Midge.  Wait...I take that back.  I had a Midge doll.  She was Barbie's best friend.  But that's not the Midge I'm talking about.

A midge is a small mosquito-lookalike bug that likes to hang around water.  In Sun Lakes there are several lakes and the homes surrounding those lakes will notice these little annoying pests right about this time of year.  They're especially prevelant in any of the lake areas (not just in Sun Lakes) by the way.

Midges in the Sun Lakes area don't bite like mosquitoes so they pose no harm to humans or animals but they are annoying when they swarm.  Male midges form large swarms when all conditions are optimal...humidity, temperature, light and they are very attracted to light.

Midges can fly up to a quarter mile from their breeding sites so even though the IronOaks Association has taken measures to reduce the midge population in the lakes, they can still fly into the area from other locations surrounding the community.

So what's a person to do?  Number one, turn off outdoor lights if you can.  Or, install yellow bulbs that Midges can't see.

How about that bug light?  You thought that was a great idea didn't you?  The truth be told, bug lights tend to attract more bugs then they kill, so you might want to rethink that little blue light show...Unless you find the sound of frying bugs just a little bit comforting.

The season for Midges in Sun Lakes is relatively short, so don't fret...they'll soon be gone.  After all, we're just about the perfect place to be for a person who doesn't like bugs (that would be me).

Tiptoe in or Dive - Social Media
Lynette Messick (RE/MAX Excalibur)
I was listening to an AZ Diamondback game today - poor Dbacks this season - and I think the sportscasters were trying to fill in some of the down time with comments from a popular team manager. The man was asked why he thought he was so well…
Foreclosure Short Bus
Lynette Messick (RE/MAX Excalibur)
So I was cruising through the headlines today and came across a clip about people boarding a van and a "short" bus in a strip mall parking lot to go look at foreclosure listings. The first two men-in-charge interviewed (and you could tell who…
HELOC Freeze
Lynette Messick (RE/MAX Excalibur)
I heard today that several major lenders are freezing withdrawals from HELOC's. Is this the next trend we are going to face? It's really logical - they are considered consumer credit and if a bank can revise the terms or cancel your credit…
Transitioning from Client to Friend
Lynette Messick (RE/MAX Excalibur)
Does anyone else have this problem? Is it a chick thing? I think I owe much of my success to the fact that I have a warm personality and really like to bond with my clients. It really just happens without concious effort. During the transaction, I…
