glamorous job of a realtor: "As you know, I was working with another agent ....... " - 05/22/12 05:23 AM
"As you know, I was working with another agent ......." Yes, this was a familiar phrase that I received in my email after helping this gentlemen search for homes in my area. (heavy sigh)  Not to mention, he interviewed me extensively on getting down payment assistance and other market particulars.  You know, I just feel used. If the buyer would have been completely clear that he was interviewing many agents to help him with his home search I would have made an effort earlier to find out where I ended up in the interview process.   I would have interviewed him further … (13 comments)

glamorous job of a realtor: So you can't find the front door?? - 03/15/12 02:20 PM
So you can't find the front door? A buyers agent yesterday seemed not able to find the front door of my listing.  Usually the front door of a home is the most decorative of the many available and this one is no exception.  There is also a lockbox located to the left of the front door (another clue!).  For some reason the agent couldn't find the front door & used the garage entrance to my listing. Obviously you are not showing the home to it's best advantage by shuffling past the riding law mower. So now I actually have to put a showing … (14 comments)

glamorous job of a realtor: Extreme Real Estate Ugliness - Is it a new sport? - 02/10/12 02:03 PM
Extreme Real Estate Ugliness - is it the new 'club'? Looking thru the MLS each week can be filled with both frustration and laughter.  There are pictures of homes or rentals that are just so ridiculous you have to laugh.  But then, reality sets in and you say to yourself 'How many did you see this last week alone'.  Will I suffer permanent damage to my retinas from all this ugliness? How many rooms have I seen in 'Big Bird Blue' or 'Spiderman Red'?  Not even Barbie can sleep in a room that pink!  Worse yet, the lack of staging and overall … (12 comments)

glamorous job of a realtor: Gad Zzzooks those Scoundrels! - 05/09/11 08:11 AM
We all know and think fondly when we see this house don't we?  Yes, it's the 'Home Alone' House and it's currently for sale in the Chicago Suburb of Winnetka.$2,175,000 for the 1920's stately brick colonial offering 5BR's 3.5BA's and a total of 4,243 square feet.  The house is so wonderful to us we can call it our own - I can picture myself sliding down the banister to the front door.  Gosh, if we only had that down payment!Suddenly all nostalgia is ripped from me!  I am stunned because I see a real 'mood spoiler' pop up on a Google search … (19 comments)

glamorous job of a realtor: Sellers take my advice, this is not the way to show your house! - 05/02/11 02:55 PM
Sellers take my advice, this is not the way to show your house! Out showing property this weekend in the lower price ranges in Schaumburg.  And sellers, there are lots and lots of opportunities for buyers to choose from so your home better stand out for the price.  There's a good way and a bad way to get your house noticed. Here's an example of how to 'not' show your house.Upon entering this home, 'from now on being referred to as the cave', our view was restricted because it was totally black.  Or close enough to night that a Livingroom could possibly get. … (11 comments)

glamorous job of a realtor: A Realtors© Job - Why aren't you ever in your office? - 02/04/11 07:37 PM
Why aren't you ever in your office? Lyn, you're never in your office when I have questions.  Where are you anyway?Let me explain how a real estate agent's day works.  It is not a regular day job by any means!  There is no punching in, no time cards, no supervision.  We work our own hours and our own schedule everyday.  Clients seem to forget that we can't be in the office and showing homes at the same time!  It's just not possible.  When I am with clients, either a buyer or seller, they have my 100% undivided attention when I am … (16 comments)

glamorous job of a realtor: What's wrong with this picture? - 01/19/11 06:02 PM
What's wrong with this picture? Literally?  Notice anything odd for a new listing in January?  Now, you're starting to get it - that's right, where's the snow?  I don't know what's come over everyone in my area recently but more and more new listings actually have leaves on the trees.  What a special listing it is!  None of my listings have a nice green lawn & leafy trees.I can understand putting one summer picture of the great deck & backyard showing how it 'could' look.  But these are the 'main picture'.  It's supposed to represent how the house looks 'today'.
Maybe they … (12 comments)

glamorous job of a realtor: This story trumps your unlocked door ...... - 09/21/10 09:07 AM
Ed Silva wrote a great post about buyers agents being totally oblivious to locking doors, turning off lights, etc.  It seems to be just another social courtesy in our business gone by the way side & totally ignored.  You have to admit this is an odd story.Real estate agent showed house as owner lay dead on couch .............
A British real estate agent showed prospective buyers around an £800,000 ($1.3 million) house while the owner lay dead on the couch - after he mistakenly thought she was asleep.Real estate agent Samuel Allfort was showing prospective buyers around the house in West … (12 comments)

glamorous job of a realtor: Smallest house I've ever shown! - 09/18/10 08:52 AM
Chrissy Doremus did a great post the other day about the smallest house.  It's about 89 square feet which is about the size of most people's one car garage.  Well, yesterday I was out with a new buyer and I showed this house built in 1900 and it was close to being the smallest house I'd ever been in.  In fact, it was only 580 square feet. The one car garage (280 sq feet) rivaled the interior of this 2BR matchbox, I mean 'bungalow'.  'Bring your decorating ideas aplenty', which means exactly what you are thinking in Realtor© speak.  Yikes!

glamorous job of a realtor: What kind of Kleptomania is this? - 08/31/10 11:31 AM
What kind of kleptomania is this? I currently have a condo listed near a very nice forest preserve and walking path.  Very wooded for our area and tucked away.  The 'blunder dog' and I often go to this forest preserve on the walking trails and she gets to 'pretend scuba dive' in the pond area.  On one of our jaunts I noticed a very well manicured grey haired lady closing the garage door on my listing.  Thinking that I just made a mistake as to which garage door it actually was I thought nothing of it and continued our walk.  The longer I … (16 comments)

glamorous job of a realtor: F bomb kinda day... in more ways than one! - 08/23/10 09:04 PM
People never believe that Realtors just can't make this stuff up! Who could have this happen to them on a regular work day?
My thanks to Andrea Swiedler for keeping her sense of humor!  It's just another day in the life of a Realtor!

glamorous job of a realtor: Must be something in the air, something in the stars or my ouija board has a speed bump! - 05/29/10 12:48 PM
Must be something in the air, something in the stars or my ouija board has a speed bump!   There have been an unusual amount of 'strange happenings' in my real estate hemisphere!Buyer client #1 states at home inspection - 'Can't you just give me the payment book & we can get this over with'?   Sure, I'll work on that for you but we have to go thru the closing process first.Buyer client #2 states at closing - 'I'm tired of reading all this @%*&!n paperwork, just tell me where to sign and give me my payment number'.   Hmmmm, are … (12 comments)

glamorous job of a realtor: It's just too painful to continue - my eyes, my eyes! - 05/04/10 09:50 AM
Here's another installment in The Glamorous Job of a Realtor©.  This was just too good to pass up and I had to show you the latest decorating trends for the Kitchen.
Scroll slowly to savor the moment .....

The floor matches the cabinets which I will have to remember when I remodel in the future.  My eyes hurt a little bit while looking at the cabinets but I guess they will adjust after a few years.

Don't forget you saw this new decorating trend right here first!  Stand aside HGTV.
Stay tuned for our video tutorial entitled 'Tacky things to … (19 comments)

glamorous job of a realtor: Can you say fire Mr. SpongeBob? - 02/23/10 08:12 AM
Can you say fire Mr. SpongeBob? How do you spell fire Mr. SpongeBob SquarePants?   Are the owners of this house so unbelievably stupid that they have put a giant bag of foam rubber near the hot exhaust pipe of their water heater?

WHY YES!Can you spell stupid Mr. SpongeBob?Can you say 'poof' up in flames?

Just another day in the glamourous job of a Realtor©.

glamorous job of a realtor: The Glamorous Job of a Realtor© - 02/08/10 12:36 PM
Yes, real estate is such a glamorous job as you can see by these pictures!  A documentation in pictures of the job of a Realtor© - how glamorous indeed after you see these houses!  So this week I've seen some pretty funny things, some pathetic things and some indescribable things.  Some things are so gross they're won't be any pictures!Let's begin if we may:  These folks had 2 days notice that I was coming which is plenty of time for making your house presentable in my book.  I almost fell down the stairs, assaulted by the smell of chihuahua poop (small stuff … (18 comments)
