IL House having a hard time putting that bottle cap on taxes! Legislators are trying to keep your property taxes from getting out of control but they are having a tough time against opposition from within their own ranks.  If you feel that your taxes have gotten 'out of control', please send a message with your opinion.  In fact, I think that Senator Link needs to hear the opinions of area constituents on his opposition to this issue!

Staff from the Schaumburg Township Assessor’s Office and Cook County Board of Review’s Office will be on hand to file your appeals that evening.  This seminar will be held at Schaumburg High School, 1100 W. Cook County Assessor Mails Senior Freeze/Senior Homeowner Exemption Forms The Cook County Assessor's office notified senior residents that the annual Senior Freeze Exemption and Senior Homeowner Exemption forms were mailed on February 9, 2011.  Initially these forms were to be mailed at the end of March or beginning April of this year so they are extremely early.  The mailing of these forms means that at any time you may begin filing your freeze and exemptions forms with the Schaumburg Township Assessor - Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.  These forms must be mailed in no later than March 8, 2011 … (10 comments)

The Better Government Association paired with CBS Channel 2 did a recent investigation on the Treasurer's Office of Maria Pappas.  What they found was outrageous and shocking!  Mismanagement, fraud and disrespect for the taxpayers money were found through out the system under her daily control.  The Treasurer's Office is the Cook County body that actually collects your taxes.  The Assessor's Office is the body that actually levies your taxes and decides what taxes will be based on funds needed.What they found under the direction of Maria Pappas is outrageous at best! … (4 comments)

Cook County 'Highway Robbery' comes at Owners thru their Mailboxes! For Cook County taxpayers things are looking grim.  The Illinois Department of Revenue announced the 2009 equalization factor of 3.3701 for Cook County real estate - an increase of 13% above the 2008 factor (2.9786).  This equalization factor has affected all 2009 second installment tax bills due December 13, 2010. Cook County strikes again with it's usual financial bungling! "This past January 2010, Schaumburg Township Assessor John Lawson was informed by the Cook County Assessor’s Office that the 2010 second installment of the property tax bills may be delayed, as late as spring 2011.  Shortly there after, the first installment would be due on March 1, 2011. In hearing this news, Lawson contacted all 32 taxing bodies within Schaumburg Township and held several meetings during the months of February, March, and April. LONG-TIME OCCUPANT HOMEOWNER EXEMPTION FOR COOK COUNTY  
New exemption will allow homeowners residing in their homes 10 years or more to receive additional tax relief if the following requirements are met:
 
Homeowner with a total household income of $75,000 or below will have an increase limited to 7% over the prior year’s taxable value, with no maximum exemption amount.
