There has been a passage of a bill in the IL Senate recently about how foreclosures and short sales should be included in the tax assessor's review. Previously this was not the case and this bill should correct the current problem with these kinds of sales bringing down the values in our neighborhoods.

Was helping a new purchaser finish up with a few loose ends regarding his new home purchase in Hoffman Estates. Big problem - his taxes. Don't quite know what the previous owner did but it's a costly mistake. An absolute blunder! Taxes on this house are now $5809.07 for 2007. Before you say - well too bad this rich guy deserves those taxes - think again! Staff from the Schaumburg Township Assessor’s Office and Cook County Board of Review’s Office will be on hand to file your appeals that evening. This seminar will be held at Schaumburg High School, 1100 W. Schaumburg Rd, Schaumburg, Illinois. The seminar will be held on May 3, 2011 at 6:30 pm. You need to bring your property tax bill. The Illinois Department of Revenue announced the 2009 equalization factor of 3.3701 for Cook County real estate - an increase of 13% above the 2008 factor (2.9786). This equalization factor has affected all 2009 second installment tax bills due December 13, 2010. Well is this good news? We shall see. Don't forget to look for this assessment change in your mailbox coming soon. Don't forget that every Illinois homeowner has the right to protest their taxes if they feel they are being overvalued and over taxed. Just wanted to be sure that you were informed as the county doesn't seem to be getting the word out like it should. This will effect all homeowners in Cook County!

This is a typical story of the little guy that is getting screwed by the giant behemoth called Cook County Illinois!
The background behind this ‘punch to the pocket book’ is as follows: Single lady with a very nice 2story townhouse around 1260 square feet with 2BR 2.5BA’s and a 1 car attached garage. There are many great areas all thruout Schaumburg just like this and unfortuntely lots of people are handing over their hard earned money year after year.
