Stay Calm...When What You Really Want To Do Is Scream! - 02/29/08 07:10 PM
It happens to the best of us. You know - you get into a discussion with someone but you disagree with their points. You politely but firmly state your own views only to have the other person say something totally off the wall. This happens in blogging as well as in real life. At that point, you really want to scream! The frustration has built up and you just can't hold it in any longer. Be honest - you've been there! We aren't all Saints! So, instead of pulling all your hair out, what do you do? First of all, stay calm! That

Don't Be Like Everyone Else! - 02/29/08 12:59 PM
Using Unusual Marketing Opportunities Let me start off by saying that traditional marketing methods work. And everyone's doing it. Agents across the world send out recipe cards, sports schedules, and calendars. That's because, when sent to the right people, these things are kept for a long, long time. And they are usually placed in the most desireable place in the house - the refrigerator door. Traditional marketing consists of the tried and true ways of getting your name in front of your contacts. These include sending out Just Listed and Just Sold postcards, newsletters, and calendars, magnets, and sports schedules. But as I

Forget About It! - 02/27/08 08:05 PM
I have a confession to make. I'll just call it "pregnancy brain loss." What happens is that I go into a room and forget what I went in there for. I'll pick up the phone and forget who I was going to call. Did I take my medicine today? Did I turn on the dryer after I put the clothes in? Anybody else know what I'm talking about? So I've taken to writing everything down. And I mean everything. I should have bought stock in Post-Its. One thing I try my best to help our clients do is to remember their leads. Not only current and past clients

Help Me, Help You! - 02/22/08 01:08 PM
Have you ever seen the movie "Jerry Maguire?" The scene in the bathroom where he's trying to convince his only client to cut him some slack. He yells over and over, in different inflections, "Help ME, help YOU!" Well, that's me! Call me your personal Jerry Maguire! You see, I need for you to help me, help you! You're probably saying right now, "What on earth is this woman going on about??" Well, let me tell ya! I'd like to make it a personal mission to educate the real estate industry about utilizing Virtual Assistants. However, I want to do it on your

Are You Branding The Right Thing? - 02/21/08 12:38 PM
I've been reading lately about agents getting up-to-speed with branding and I think that's terrific!! There are three things I believe every agent should have: A niche marketA brand for their nicheA Virtual Assistant 8-)What I've been reading, however, has me a little concerned. Are you branding the right thing? That's my question and, before you answer, think about it a bit. Are you branding you or are you branding what you do? Let me explain what I mean. First, unless you have targeted a niche that you want to focus on, you shouldn't be branding anything. Because if you haven't done that, then you are branding,

Is There a Right or Wrong Way to Get Started? - 02/19/08 03:28 PM
So many folks are becoming real estate agents these days and are told they should hang their license with this brokerage or that for this reason or the other. Coldwell Banker, RE/MAX, Keller Williams, Prudential - the list goes on and on. Another big issue to consider as a new agent is whether or not you need an assistant. Some agents start off knowing they want an in-house assistant. They have goals and an agenda that will require an assistant in order to pull it all off, and they want that assistant sitting in the office right next to them. Other agents start off thinking

Is It Truly "Unprofessional"? - 02/17/08 06:10 PM
I came across a blog today where the agent was wondering about taking her child with her to an open house. Some comments were made about how taking a child to work was "unprofessional." That got me to thinking. (And I really hope this doesn't turn into a controversial subject.) Why is it that mothers are perceived as unprofessional when they put the welfare of their children ahead of anything else? I guess that would be my primary question. Most of us became entrepreneurs (Virtual Assistants, Real Estate Agents, Stagers, etc.) because we wanted and/or needed the flexibility to care for our children.

Which Category Are You In? (I Hope #1!!) - 02/15/08 04:51 PM
It's boring. It's mundane. It isn't relevant. It's the same old thing that every other realtor is doing. What am I talking about?? Your Marketing!! There are three main groups of real estate professionals: Those who are effectively utilizing marketing campaigns to grow their businesses. Those who are haphazardly using some kind of marketing campaign, but not effectively. Those who are not doing any kind of consistent marketing.Which category do you fall into? The vast majority of agents are in category #2. Let me explain. Many agents come into the real estate industry because they feel they can make a quick buck, not because it is a passion. Some

Missing the Gems - Past Clients - 02/14/08 01:29 PM
Are you passing up what could be one of your greatest sources of new business? Because, if you did your job the way that I'm hoping you did, you helped someone (a single person, couple, or family) get into a new home one day in the not-too-distant past. I'm talking about your past clients! New clients are great because they are, well, new! But past clients are terrific because they are a two-fold way of getting new business. If they were satisfied with your services, they will tell everyone they know about their great Realtor(c) and will sing your praises for years to come to folks you may

Question: Looking for Post-Paid Gift Cards - 02/12/08 06:57 PM
I'm trying to find sources where our clients can purchase post-paid gift cards (as opposed to pre-paid). By post-paid, I mean that you can get cards and only pay the value after the recipient has redeemed it. Starbucks used to have something like this but I can't find anything now. So, any suggestions will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! ~Renae - Market 4 Real!

Are you ready to throw in the towel? Tired of following-up on leads? Tired of calling people who said they were ready but keep telling you "not now?" Tired of going to house after house, only to have the buyer say "not this one?" Tired of writing contract after contract, only to have the sellers not accept the offers? Tired of it all? Ready to give up? Well don't! Now is not the time to give up. Now is the time to dig in and make your mark on your little part of the world. Whatever city you're in, whatever state, this is

Who's Got on Purple Stretch Pants?? - 02/08/08 04:55 PM
We all have a choice... We can choose to be the best at what we do or we can choose not to be the best. We can choose to excel at whatever we put our hands to or we can choose to just get by. Why am I saying this? Aftter all, you already know this, right? I read a blog earlier today about the lenient conditions under which you can become a real estate agent and commented about how that holds true to many industries, not just real estate. As a Virtual Assistant, I didn't have to take any classes, I didn't have

The Great Balancing Act! - 02/07/08 02:01 PM
Let's face it... Being an entrepreneur is not as easy as one might think. How many times have people said they envy you because you can set your own hours, work when you want to work, and watch your favorite soap operas at your leisure in the middle of the day? But it isn't that easy, is it? Being an entrepreneur means setting your own salary (charge what you feel you are worth), setting your own hours (no more 9-5), and having the flexibility to choose who you will or will not take on as clients (life is too short). It also means, no more

How VAs Charge for Services - 02/07/08 11:13 AM
After you've decided how you want to use a Virtual Assistant, you will need to consider several things to help in deciding which one you will work with. Aside from finding a VA who provides the services you need, pricing is the next biggest issue. Most VAs provide their services in these ways: Retainer - You select a set number of hours that you will use your VA's sevices and contract with them to use at least that number every month. There are some stipulations that you should be aware of. You have to retain the VA for a minimum number of hours that

We also post their listings to their blogs for more exposure. What other services have you provided your clients with regard to their blogs? ~Renae - Market 4 Real!

Question: Featured Posts - 02/07/08 09:50 AM
Hello again - I'm back with another question! I've recently been honored to have one of my blog posts become a featured post but I'm not quite sure how this works. If you post your blog to certain groups, is it one of those group moderators who features your post? If so, how do you find out which one? I've looked in all five groups that I posted my blog to and the featured post does not show up on any of them. I would like to send a quick thank you to the moderator who featured my post but can't figure out who

Am I Too Big (Or, GASP! Too Small) ? - 02/03/08 04:10 PM
Are you too big? Too small? Somewhere stuck in the middle? Or do you have absolutely no idea? What am I talking about? At what point in your business should you consider utilizing a Virtual Assistant? This is a question that has plagued many real estate professionals so lets talk about it! Realtors who have just broken into the business are perfect candidates for utlizing a VA because this is the perfect opportunty for you to put processes into place that will help you grow more quickly and smoothly. Often, we hear newer agents say they don't have enough work for a VA.

Question: Who's Subscribed to Your Blog? - 02/01/08 02:29 PM
Another question for you. How do you find out who's subscribed to your blog? I have people subscribed but I have no idea how to find out who they are so I can say thanks! Also, how do you get people to sign up to your blog? Is this something I should be concerned about or another of those things, like associations, that will happen when it happens? Thanks again for your help with this one! ~Renae - Market 4 Real!
