Question: Banners - 02/27/09 11:15 AM
I admit it, I'm jealous.I'm jealous of all these beautiful banners I've seen on AR blogs.  I'm jealous of how nice they look and how some of them truly make the blog inviting.I want one!
I want one, I want one, I want one. So, tell me, oh great and knowledgeable bloggers, how do I get me one of those banners?Cause, in case you didn't hear it, I want one!

Dear Diary, My Passion Is...My Family - 02/23/09 11:18 AM
Most people with children feel some type of passion for them.  It is understandable.  Mothers go out of their way to protect and provide for their children.  Fathers get even more protective and want earnestly to be the one who "takes care of" them.  But for me, I've found that my passion for my family has found its outlet in several unique ways.
As a Virtual Assistant...
This is an awesome job that allows me to work from home and still be able to be there for my children.  When they are sick, I'm here.  When they need help with homework, I'm … (7 comments)

How a Day Can Make a Difference - or a Nap - 02/19/09 09:08 PM
Earlier today, I wrote a post called "Slowly Losing It..."  It was all about my kids, gotta luv em.  My kids and the grey hair they inspire.
By noon today, I was ready to throw in the towel.  I couldn't get some information I needed for a client, despite several phone calls.  For some reason, I couldn't get my login information to work on one of my clients' websites.  The dishwasher wouldn't start.  I couldn't get the kids on a schedule.  Our 4 year old and 2 year old fought constantly over every little thing.  Our 10.5 month old twins kept … (8 comments)

I've Figured It Out: Real Estate Is Like Being Married - 02/19/09 06:20 PM
When I initially started working as a Virtual Assistant for the real estate industry, things were awesome!  I had clients galore - so many that I could be extremely selective in who I chose to work with.  Agents were coming from all over the world, wanting to partner with a VA.  It was absolutely awesome, I tell ya!  Of course, between 2001 and 2006, things were going very well for folks in real estate.  Then, the market turned.
Properties stopped selling as quickly, agents had to start doing a good deal of work to get listings, find buyers, and get their … (74 comments)

Slowly Losing It... - 02/19/09 10:27 AM
I started going grey right after my first child was born.  I was 26 years old.  Quite young, I might say!  But I went grey all the same.  It started off slowly, almost crept up on me.  I woke up one day to a few long strands of grey hairs.
Then child #2 came along.  With him came not a manual but more grey hair.  Then child #3.  And more grey hair.  Then #4.  And you guessed it - more grey hair.  When the final set came along, our twins, I thought I wouuld go completely grey.  Fortunately, I still have … (15 comments)

Tuesday Tech Tip (um, on Wednesday): Convert PDF to Word Document - 02/18/09 09:09 AM
Previously, we discussed ways to convert documents to .pdf files absolutely free.  This is a great way to make large documents smaller to e-mail as well as to ensure that the document does not get altered.  Well, this week, I'm bringing you a free way to convert .pdf files to MS Word documents so that you can manipulate the documents as if you created them.
HelloPDF is a free program that can:
Convert PDF to Word and preserve the original layout of your PDF in an editable Word Document. Extract text labels, graphics, shapes from PDF file into Word Doc file. … (6 comments)

One of this week's featured Twitter Friends is Cheryl Phillips of The Daily Blonde. Here's what Cheryl had to tell us:

When Your Virtual Friends Are More Real (And More Fun)! - 02/13/09 12:12 PM
I read someone say the other day that she has more fun with her virtual friends than she does with her friends in real life.
That's interesting to me because the friends I've made online have in many ways made more of an impact on me, my life, and my business than most people I've met in real life.  I started wondering, why is that?  How could that be when I've never even met most of my virtual "friends?"  Then I realized something important...
The friends I've made online are like me, more like me than just about anyone I know locally.  They … (5 comments)

Why Are You Making Me Do This? - 02/10/09 09:18 PM
As a parent, you've probably heard it a thousand times.
Why are you making me not only go to school but get good grades? Why are you making me eat my vegetables? Why are you making me learn to cook? Why are you making me post to my blog? Why are you making me stay in touch with my leads?
Why? Because it's good for you!
Isn't that what we tell our children?  It's good for you.
Getting good grades helps you get into college and get a better job. (Ok, that one isn't exactly true.)  Eating your vegetables makes you healthy.  If you can … (11 comments)

Tuesday Tech Tip: Desktop Post-It Notes - 02/10/09 12:43 PM
I have a confession to make. I am a note-addict. Similar to drug and alcohol addicts, I can't seem to stop writing notes. I write them on everything - notepads are strewn throughout my house, notes are taped on the refrigerator and every hung calendar, notes are even on the backs of envelopes. (Wait - that last happened just one time and only because someone called me right when I got the mail and I couldn't find any notepads.)
Well, if you are anything like me (you don't have to admit it out loud), you're tired of all the pieces of paper.  Either … (17 comments)

What Is It With Kids and Bathrooms? - 02/06/09 07:51 PM
I have found over the years that bathrooms hold some almost perverse fascination for children.  Why is that? Do you know?
I've got 6 kids. 5 boys and 1 girl (stuck in the middle, poor thing).  The oldest is 13, then 10, 4, and 2.5. The youngest are 10 month old twins.  All of them, bar NONE, have a fascination with the bathroom.  Examples follow...
Playing in the sink/toilet - The older 2 did it, the younger 4 do it constantly.  I keep the bathrom door closed but my daughter and the boy right under her can open the door.  So I'm … (17 comments)

Are You Speaking English? OR Communication Is Key! - 02/05/09 12:31 PM
As many of you know, we've got a few kids, 6 to be exact. Our oldest, Kennyth who is 13, is allowed to use the Internet only with supervision and with restrictions. Those restrictions include no chat rooms, no message forums, nothing that requires him to provide any personal information about himself. He is allowed to use Yahoo Instant Messenger but we have to approve anyone he messages there. So far, the people on his list include his cousins and one friend from school.
Yesterday, Kennyth needed to extract himself from the computer so that he could do his chores. Peering … (5 comments)

So You're Thinking of Moving to St. Petersburgh, Florida, Eh? - 02/03/09 02:55 PM
Alright, so here's the story...
My husband and I bought our house in Garfield Heights, Ohio about 4.5 years ago.  We love our house - absolutely love it!  It sports 4 bedrooms, 1 full bath and 2 half baths.  At the time, we had 3 children.  Our sons were 9 and 6 and our daughter was born right after we moved in.  In the last 4 and a half years, we had 3 more children.  Our son who is now 2, and 10 month old twin boys.
Needless to say, we've pretty much outgrown this house.  (That's probably an understatement, you think?)

Tuesday Tech Tip: Hosting Photos Online - 02/03/09 02:22 PM
What's the worse thing that can happen, technologically-speaking? Your computer dies and you have no back-up system in place OR for some reason the back-up got corrupted so you can't access the files. One thing that you lost were photos.  Alllllll your photos...
There's a way to host your photos online absolutely free so that you never again have to worry about losing your photos.  You can easily upload photos to the internet and even crop and resize them with some websites, saving them there so you don't take up space on your computer's hard drive and ensuring they'll still be … (4 comments)

Asking for Recommendations - 02/02/09 07:18 PM
Are you one of those people who thinks the "ask for recommendation" feature on LinkedIn is to be sent to just anybody? Well, Mike makes a valid point in the e-mail he shares here about how he requests recommendations.  We all need to take note and take heed.  Hopefully, you'll get a much better understanding of how to and why ask for a recommendation.
