Marketing Tip Monday: Facebook For Real
Are you using Facebook for real?? I see lots of real estate agents who use Facebook in much the same context that they use ActiveRain. Quite a few postings about new listings or market reports but not much else. There are stagers who only show before and after photos. Mortgage brokers who only talk about the current interest rates. The problem is that, although it is awesome that you share your area of expertise on Facebook, you don't give people much to go on that they can't find elsewhere.
Your Monday Marketing Tip is this: Facebook is … (6 comments)

social networking: An Office Space That Blogs and Tweets?? - 05/18/11 05:07 PM
So everyone who reads my blog knows how much I love unique marketing ideas. Well, here's one that I thought was not only hilarious but effective. There's this vacant office space in Tucson, Arizona that tweets and blogs and has a Facebook Fan Page.  Seriously!

The office, called A Lonely Office, is named Ralph and says he started his foray into the online community because he's lonely and the office next door didn't password protect their Wi-Fi.  Why is Ralph online?  He's looking for friends.  I'm not making this up people.

Not only does he blog and all that, now … (7 comments)

social networking: It's Free So There's Got To Be A Catch, Right? - 03/20/09 05:34 AM
I went to Giant Eagle last night to pick up some more Similac, 2% milk, and salad fixings.  I got my purchases, got in line to wait, got my items wrung up at the cash register then the clerk hands me a piece of paper and ays "here's a coupon to get a FREE movie rental from our Redbox service." I looked at the coupon.  I looked at the girl.  I read the coupon.  I looked at the girl.  I replied, "What's the catch? Do I have to sign up for something to get the free movie?" "Nope," she says. "Giant … (14 comments)

social networking: On That Whole "Friends With Benefits" Thing... - 03/17/09 12:47 PM
It isn't always about business you know.  I'm talking about social networking. We network socially these days to promote awareness of a brand, a service, a product.  But we also engage in social networking because of the fringe benefits. How many people have you met here on the Active Rain message board who you are 98% sure you probably would never have met were it not for Active Rain?  How many people have you run into on Facebook who you thought were lost to you forever but now you are back in close contact?  How many people are stalking you, I … (14 comments)

social networking: I Dare You To Be In The Minority! - 03/09/09 12:14 PM
Remember in school when we used to strive to be at the top of the class?  Well, some of us did.  Some of us just wanted to graduate and get it over with, right?  Some of us wanted to be in the National Honor Society, the Top 1% of the class.  Some of us wanted to be voted Most Likely to Succeed.  Or maybe it was Prom Queen and King.
Then came careers.  Who here never had a thought to be "The first person to..." (you fill in the blank).  I wanted to be a chemical researcher and win the Nobel … (16 comments)

social networking: When Your Virtual Friends Are More Real (And More Fun)! - 02/13/09 04:12 AM
I read someone say the other day that she has more fun with her virtual friends than she does with her friends in real life.
That's interesting to me because the friends I've made online have in many ways made more of an impact on me, my life, and my business than most people I've met in real life.  I started wondering, why is that?  How could that be when I've never even met most of my virtual "friends?"  Then I realized something important...
The friends I've made online are like me, more like me than just about anyone I know locally.  They … (5 comments)

social networking: Social Media - It's Not For Blatant Advertising Folks! - 12/11/08 06:24 AM
So, I've been participating on several social networking sites lately such as Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn, among others.  I've been noticing something that's really started to grate on my nerves - blatant advertising by virtual assistants.
And I don't mean the occasional "hey, I'm a VA and I provide lead management and listing coordination services." I'm talking the all-out ads: "Do you need a VA? Hire ME! I'm need more clients so Hire Me!"  And daily, several times during the day - the same thing.
Hey, I understand that people approach social media in different ways and I really need to get into … (22 comments)

social networking: Are You Marketing On ApSense? - 09/08/08 05:21 AM
Hi everybody!
This weekend, while surfing the net for social networking sites to set up profiles on for a client, I came across a site called ApSense.  Have you heard of it?  Well, I hadn't before now but I'm really excited now that I've stumbled upon it!  The most exciting thing I saw was that it was virtually untapped by the real estate community - no VA's, just a handful of agents, no stagers, no financial lenders!!  Let me tell you a little about the site...
You set up a profile and put as much information in your "Business Center" as you'd like … (9 comments)
