Wayzata Yacht Club Apostle Islands Station - Registration Now Open for 2012 Spring Series in Bayfield, WI
The Apostle Islands Station of the Wayzata Yacht Club has begin processing registrations for its May 25-28 "Spring Series" racing event. The series consists of five races over a three-day period, with an optional sixth race on the 28th if weather permits.
Other WYC summer sailboat racing events planned for the summer of 2012 include the Summer Series 10 Races (June 30 through July 6) and the Fall Series 5 Races (September 1-3). There is also a Single/Double-handed race September 15, and the Bayfield "Cup 2 … (0 comments)

I recently received a phone call from a Madeline Island property owner, inquiring about putting his vacant land parcel on the market. Calls like this one are routine, but this seller had an idea he wanted to bounce off me.

The weekend of March 17 & 18, 2012 will be one for the history books on Madeline Island. With record high temperatures in the 60s and low 70s, the weekend was a revival of spring that comes two months ahead of schedule.

The Wisconsin Realtors Association (WRA) reports that February 2012 was the eighth month in a row in which sales rose. Prices are down, but sales volume is on track to continue rising this year.
At the end of February, things in Ashland County were still running behind State average sales volume, with ten closed sales in the County during February.

More Prospective Madeline Island & Bayfield Buyers Seem to be Coming from Southeast Wisconsin
We're noticing a not-so-subtle trend among prospective buyers inquiring about Madeline Island and Bayfield, Wisconsin. An increasing number of those new buyer prospects seem to be coming from the southeast part of the State of Wisconsin.
Not long ago, the vast majority of our buyer pool came here from Minneapolis & Saint Paul or from Duluth, Minnesota. That appears to be changing gradually. We're seeing more and more buyer prospects from Madison, Milwaukee and south central Wisconsin.

Trulia reports that Bayfield, Wisconsin real estate prices have been trending upwards over the past month. Prices are up 0.4 per cent over the past week, according to Trulia's "Bayfield WI real estate overview" page.
The current average listing price in Bayfield is $200,200. This figure is up from $197,000 in mid-December of 2011.
There's also less available inventory in the 54814 zip code area. Listing inventories have dropped slightly since mid-December.

An organization located in Madison, Wisconsin is offering summer retreats for women breast cancer survivors on Madeline Island and in Door County, the Wisconsin Dells and in Eagle River.
Breast Cancer Recovery is hosting two "Infinite Boundaries" survivor retreats for women on Madeline Island this summer. The first 2012 Madeline Island survivor retreat will take place on the Island July 19-22 and the second will be July 26 through 29.
The mission of Breast Cancer Recovery is to "provide environments for women breast cancer survivors to heal emotionally".

Trulia reports that average home listing prices continued to drop at the end of November, 2011. The average list price of a home in the 54814 zip code area fell to $199,941 as of November 30th, down 0.7% from the prior week.
The average list price of a Bayfield, Wisconsin home has dropped 2.5%, or $5229, since November 9, 2011. The number of available listings in 54814 also dropped nearly 5% during the month of November, 2011.

According to statistics from the Trulia website, the average list price of a listed dwelling on Madeline Island dropped to $383,729. The new average price in the 54850 zip code area represents a 0.4% drop from the previous week.
Continued weakness in pricing can be attributed to a number of factors, including the typical winter seasonal slowdown in Madeline Island tourist and visitor traffic. A lack of available mortgage lending in rural northwest Wisconsin is also a contributing factor.
