palmetto bay redland real estate agents musings: Who's Minding The Store While You're At The Trade Show? - 12/29/07 10:22 AM
We all want to have the latest toys.  New and improved?  Yeah, we want it.
Will it get more traffic to my site?  I'm in.
Will I get more leads?  That's what I want!
OK, so if our goal is to get more traffic, which will hopefully get those interested in our services to raise their hands and identify themselves why are we ignoring them after they do?
On Thursday I personally spent a few hours researching something I am in the market for and contacted 2 providers of those services via their websites.  I have yet to hear back from … (35 comments)

palmetto bay redland real estate agents musings: Joy To The World - 12/25/07 12:47 AM
The carefully wrapped presents are unwrapped now. Shreds of papers strewn about. Some glittery bows catch my eye. The kids are playing with some of their new gifts. A couple of people are back in bed sleeping since they got up so early.
We celebrated Noche Buena last night. This morning we sang happy birthday to Jesus (the Reason for the Season) before making the rounds with the gifts.
Since our labor intensive celebration was last night, we have an easy day ahead of us. I have nothing planned but to enjoy the day with my family. But I wanted to come … (28 comments)

palmetto bay redland real estate agents musings: Holiday Memories - Cuban Style! - 12/17/07 08:26 PM
One of the childhood memories I have is of being 9 or so and being allowed to taste Crema de Vie.  It's a traditional Cuban drink and it made it's appearance every Noche Buena in the hands of our ever-feisty and never-boring little-old-Cuban-neighbor Sofia.
Sofia always whipped up a batch and brought a bottle of it to our New York City apartment around Christmas.  I can still see her stout little person waddling in with it...her traditional smile on her face.  It's got rum in it, so it wasn't something I was allowed to drink.  But the first time I was allowed, … (24 comments)

palmetto bay redland real estate agents musings: Save The Net - 12/14/07 04:04 AM
I'm square. What can I say? Last night at the office's holiday celebration I stuck around, enjoyed myself, but called it a night early.
But just because I'm square doesn't mean I take whatever comes my way sitting down.
I just read some stuff that opened my eyes a bit.
There's some censoring going on in the internet. I had no idea. (I'm naive sometimes too.)

So today, square me, has joined the fight to save the internet.

palmetto bay redland real estate agents musings: The Blogger's Song - 12/01/07 12:53 AM

With the holiday season upon us and all the holiday music surrounding us, I just couldn't help but turn to thinking about blogging. Is there anything else?
So here's my contribution to the repertoire. Sing slowly and soulfully to the tune of The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire).  Feel free to use the fantastic video above to pace yourself.
My points growing to a tidy sum, Neal Bloom nipping at my toes, All the bloggers trying to get to page one, And boy, the race is really close. Everybody knows a page one ranking's what we see, … (21 comments)

palmetto bay redland real estate agents musings: Contemplations - 11/30/07 11:19 PM
This morning as I read a magazine article I thought of my Active Rain friends Ann Cummings and Jay & Monika McGillicuddy.  The article referenced Yarmouth, ME. Ann is from Portsmouth, NH, maybe an hour away.  Jay & Monika are also in New Hampshire, just a little further.  Amazing what interacting with nice people online will do.  =)
The article was highlighting the life of Hanley Denning, an amazing woman who gave selflessly and worked tirelessly to improve the lives of the desperately poor in the Guatemala City dump.  She founded Safe Passage which has grown impressively since its humble beginnings.  … (8 comments)

palmetto bay redland real estate agents musings: If The Shoe Fits... - 11/26/07 01:27 AM

Another funny from Walt Handelsman.  There is no embed code so you'll have to click on the graphic to visit the site and watch it over there.  Sorry!
While I am technically a baby boomer, I never got high and the hippies were about 10 years before my time.  Still, I can appreciate the humor in this one.

palmetto bay redland real estate agents musings: Success, But At What Cost? - 11/24/07 11:08 AM
I just read a post of John Novak's that got me thinking.  Off I went to click on his links and read some more.  His post is about the top selling agents in real estate.  It's an eye-opener.  Take a detour and check it out.  I'll wait.
The post is eye-opening because the volume these agents have done is beyond huge.  It's ginormous! The top selling agent, Dolly Lenz, sold $748,319,000.  That's for the year, not a lifetime.  Quite the impressive number, don't you think?  Ms. Lenz states that depending on whether one of her deals in escrow closes in December … (114 comments)

palmetto bay redland real estate agents musings: The Rain Splashes Again - 11/19/07 09:17 PM
Have you noticed the latest improvement to the Rain?
When you click on "email me" on someone's profile, your "handle" fills in and so does your email address.  In the past, we had to fill these in ourselves.
Way to go Active Rain!  I love how you're forever tweaking things to make improvements.
Even the little ones excite me.  Thanks.

palmetto bay redland real estate agents musings: Above All - 11/03/07 11:03 PM

I've been a Christian pretty much my whole life. But having been born in Cuba, where people are not allowed to worship, I didn't attend church as a child. When we moved to the US it wasn't natural for me to go to church and I didn't.
It was only as I grew and life started throwing me curve balls that I started looking into what my faith meant to me. I started searching for answers. I started studying the bible. I started attending church. I was learning about my God, His grace and His mercy. Although I had been born into … (27 comments)

palmetto bay redland real estate agents musings: What Time Is It?? - 11/03/07 08:08 PM
Can anyone help me?  I know this is the first year that DST clock-changing weekends were moved.  It should have taken place a couple of hours ago, I guess (for me on the East Coast anyway).
I have no idea what time it is right now!  My laptop says 4:03.  My cellphone says 2:03.  A two hour difference!  HUH???????
The clocks in the house are all flashing (we live in an area where a heavy rain will just throw off the electricity for a few seconds and we have to reset them all then.
I am completely lost as to what … (12 comments)

palmetto bay redland real estate agents musings: Almost Ultimate Steal - Office Professional Plus 2007 $84.98 - 10/31/07 01:21 AM
In my last post I reported the Ultimate Steal.  If your student doesn't qualify for that one, this one's the next best thing.
Microsoft has teamed up with schools throughout the country to offer students discounted full versions of Microsoft Office 2007.
If your child's school participates in the Microsoft Student Select Program, you qualify for huge discounts.  Microsoft has more information with links to the two vendors who sell through these programs online.
I followed one of the vendor links and looked up my kids' schools.  They do participate in the program so I was able to order Microsoft Office … (17 comments)

palmetto bay redland real estate agents musings: The Ultimate Steal - Office Ultimate 2007 $59.95 - 10/30/07 11:59 PM
Yes, this is quite the bargain!  What's the catch?  I mean, MS Office 2007 Ultimate retails for $679!  The catch is that you have to be a student.  Office Ultimate 2007 is available to students of US schools at this incredible price.
Don't confuse MS Office 2007 Ultimate with MS Office 2007 Home & Student Edition.  The latter can be easily purchased by students (at around $139) but only includes Word, Excel and Powerpoint.  In the past the Home and Student Editions also included Outlook.  It no longer includes Outlook so don't buy that one by mistake expecting to have Outlook in … (17 comments)

palmetto bay redland real estate agents musings: 55,002 Active Rain Members and Growing! - 10/27/07 03:46 PM
Did anyone notice the number up there?
55,002 members!
I don't recall exactly, everything was so new back then, but I think there were around 6,000 members when I joined in January.
Active Rain has revolutionized the way we do real estate.   Blog on!

palmetto bay redland real estate agents musings: Going The Extra Mile - 10/25/07 01:25 PM
Are you providing your customers with the bare minimum to comply or do you go above and beyond the call of duty?
Yesterday I had the pleasure of speaking with Justin Chester of Integra Computers.  I was actually speaking to him because he's part of the tech team at Pat Zaby's Seminars and Systems.  I needed a little help with something I purchased from Pat and Justin was providing the help.
Justin asked me to allow him remote access to my computer.  I did.  He then said "whoa, you've got way too many programs running in the background!"  He explained that … (15 comments)

palmetto bay redland real estate agents musings: Asa Coon Rest In Peace - 10/13/07 12:24 AM
Asa Coon was an angry child even by his uncle's admission.  Earlier this week he wounded 4 at his Cleveland high school before taking his own life.  He was 14 years old.
Fourteen years old with the weight of the world on his shoulders.  Fourteen years old and no recourse, in his eyes, but to do what he did.  I can ask why all I want.  I can debate it all I want.  The fact remains that a child, fourteen years old, who should have been looking forward to the rest of his life is now dead.
I don't watch the … (20 comments)

palmetto bay redland real estate agents musings: Akismet, Akasmet a Green & Yellow Basket - 10/09/07 08:08 AM
I just had another SPAM comment stopped dead in it's track on my outside blog.  I didn't stop it.  It was stopped by Akismet.
I have Akismet on my outside blog because Jim Cronin put it there.  But at Akismet.com they state that you can get it too!  They're so dead set against spam that they put this on their site:
"In the spirit of helping the blogosphere as much as possible, we've decided to make Akismet free for as many people as possible. We have free API keys available for your personal blog."
Every time I log into my outside … (10 comments)

palmetto bay redland real estate agents musings: Getting What You Want - 09/25/07 09:10 PM
Here's someone who knows how to get what he wants. Beth, do we have any open positions?
This is not a trained bird folks! This is a seagull in Aberdeen, Scotland who has discovered he can just go into the convenience store when the shopkeeper's not looking and steal his daily bag of chips (always the same, Doritos)! Resourceful, no? Once outside, he tears into the bag and his friends dig in as well. Customers find it so funny that they pay for his stolen chips. Notice how he looks around to make sure the coast is clear and how he speeds … (40 comments)

palmetto bay redland real estate agents musings: ActiveRain...Helping Friends Stay In Touch - 09/23/07 01:00 PM
I received an email from a friend in Jersey the other day.  She mentioned the picture on my website and I had to ask her:
"What picture?"
I don't have a picture on my website or my blogsite so she piqued my curiosity.  She replied that she was keeping up to date on what was going on in my life by reading my website.
Oh this was just getting better and  better!  You see, my website isn't updated and my blogsite is mostly about real estate.
I realized she was referring to Active Rain!  When I asked her how she found … (36 comments)

palmetto bay redland real estate agents musings: Is There Life After Real Estate? - 09/21/07 10:17 PM
I know as Real Estate Professionals, we are expected to work odd hours.  But I haven't had a life lately!
Don't get me wrong.  I spend time with my loved ones.  But when do I get to do stuff that's just for me?
Is this just because I am still paying my dues as I'm fairly new and still building my business?  Or will this continue even after I am a "seasoned pro?"
Wait, could it be we're all working even harder because of the market we're in?  I've been busting my tail lately!
A builder who listed 17 homes with me … (75 comments)
