zillow: Zillow is Getting Much Better with Their Zestimates - 01/12/10 10:53 AM
Until the past six months, the Zestimates I saw from Zillow didn't seem to be that accurate in the areas that I cover around Atlanta. But over the past few months I began seeing that Zillow was coming up with very good estimate of value. I'd do all of my analysis and then find that Zillow had come up with pretty much the same number. My personal home seemed to be right on target. Here's the graph of the price of my home over the past ten years according to Zillow. I bought it for $388,000 back in 2001. A couple of (1 comments)
zillow: Zillow Has Good Competition. Check Out CyberHomes.com - 04/25/07 10:46 AM
I stumbled upon a site that is very much like Zillow. Instead of only 70 million homes, CyberHomes.com has 100 million homes. It is part of Fidelity National Informations Services. One of the MLS systems in Atlanta, GAMLS.com, now has each listing linked to it's particular page in cyberhomes.com. I found that the estimates are better than what Zillow has in Atlanta right now, but they are still quite a bit off. The one thing I do like is that they give a range in the estimate so you can have a feeling how wide the margin of error might be. They have some great statistics and (15 comments)
zillow: My Experiment with Zillow EZ Ads - 04/08/07 10:22 PM
A new feature with Zillow is their Zillow EZ ads. For one cent per impression, you can advertise on their site. You can target specific zip codes. It's fairly easy to create a nice ad. Over the weekend, I created 4 ads and got them on Zillow. So far the results are less than spectaular. The four ads have had a total of 2607 impressions and I have had a total of 4 click thrus. So at a penny per impression, that works out to $6.51/click. This is pretty expensive advertising. I do have a few Google and Yahoo pay per click (45 comments)
zillow: What's Your Neighbor's Net Worth? Let's Start a People Zillow. - 04/07/07 08:00 AM
Isn't it fun to use Zillow to find out what your neighbor's house is worth? Wouldn't it be even funner to know how much your neighbor earned? I'd even like to know their net worth. Come on now. I can't be the only one who wonders about other people's money. There's already Fortune's list of the 400 richest Americans. Why stop there. Let's make a list of what all Americans are worth. Zillow has a great model to follow. They have tapped into all the public property records to provide a list of every home in America. They then set up (11 comments)
zillow: Zillow's Scheme to Get 77 Million Homeowners' Email Addresses. How Valuable Would That Be? - 04/05/07 02:06 AM
Zillow is really smart. They are set up to have 77 million homeowners voluntarily give them their email addresses. Why would a homeowner do this? Well, wouldn't you want Zillow to be so kind as to notify you every time that someone asked a question about your home? What if someone asked questions about your house like: I thought I saw a Roto Rooter truck in front of your house a few months ago. Did you have some kind of problem? Is that dog next door still barking all night? You aren't having problems with water in your basement, are you?Did that unregistered child molester move out of your (42 comments)
zillow: Zillow is Getting the Thumbs Up from Most Agents I Know - 02/22/07 09:02 PM
It's funny that after the initial excitement back in December when Zillow started allowing homes to be listed, talk sure seems to have quieted down. The first week I had put my five listings up on Zillow and mentioned it to several agents in my office. At the time no one had heard of Zillow. Many agents here at Active Rain seemed to be very negative about putting their listing on the site. We just had an office meeting this week and the agent representative for our branch office stood up and mentioned how we all should look into getting our listings on Zillow (7 comments)
zillow: Zillow Makes the Cover of Fortune Magazine - 02/16/07 08:41 PM
Zillow is on the cover of Fortune Magazine. Here is the 3 page online story. I hate that they went and found a Phoenix real estate agent who kind of gives off the stereotypical image of a real estate agent: Specializing in a planned community near Scottsdale, Barry lords over his territory in a canary-yellow Porsche Boxster whose vanity plate reads SAYSOLD. "It's a realtor thing," he says, half apologizing for, half drawing attention to his chariot They say that Zillow is working and improving their Zestimates and in just another year people will be amazed at the accuracy. It sounds like they have the (2 comments)
zillow: Zillow Has a Long Way to Go to Replace the Knowledge of an Agent - 02/07/07 11:13 AM
An article in Fortune Magazine just came out about how Zillow hopes to change real estate. I thought it was interesting how they say one would have to gather all the information to come up with a good price. They say it is unrealistic, which is why we use agents. This might be a very good article to have available for clients who bring up the Zestimate. The entire article is a good read. I pasted what I thought was the most useful part to give to clients. The big idea behind Zillow is to make real estate more like a stock exchange, a (2 comments)
zillow: I Got Quoted!! WoooHooooo!!!! I'm a Somebody - 12/15/06 07:55 AM
I am so excited that I can't stand it. I feel like Steve Martin in "The Jerk" when he sees his name in the telephone book. "I'm a somebody" he exclaims as he dances around in circles. I just started a blog, The Atlanta Report, two weeks ago, he same time I began posting here. I took a few minutes to write a few paragraghs about Zillow and put it on my blog. It was maybe my fifth post there. This morning I did a Google search for the title of the post to see if it was indexed in Google. I saw (1 comments)
zillow: Not Much of a Rush to Get Listings on Zillow - 12/11/06 12:02 PM
It's been almost a week now since Zillow has been offering free listings on their website but I don't see too many listings being posted. In the huge metro Atlanta area only 59 are showing up which includes 5 of mine own. A good number of them don't have pictures. If Zillow does in fact have millions of visitors each month I figured that it would be a lot of extra exposure without too much effort. With so few listings so far, my listings will have less to compete against. I can tell my clients that they are on the cutting edge (2 comments)
