Congratulations to Dave Toycen - 01/26/11 05:39 PM
Congratulaions are due to Dave Toycen, the hard working CEO of World Vision Canada.
Tomorrow he will be recognized for his lifetime of hard work and compassion by being appointed to the Order of Ontario. The ceremony will be taking place at Queen's Park (the parliament of Ontario) at 1 pm on January 27th. The award is Ontario's highest honour and is bestowed upon people who have made an outstanding contribution to society.

Mike the Headless Chicken - 01/20/11 02:57 PM
Mike was actually a rooster, a Wyandotte rooster to be precise. Mike would have been a silly name for a chicken, so I thought I would clear this up lest you would be disinclined to believe this story. After all, who would believe a story about a chicken named Mike - (although I have often wondered where they get chicken balls from in Chinese restaurants)?
This story began in 1945, in Fruita Colorado, when farmer Lloyd Olsen acting upon instructions from his wife, selected a plump bird to eat for supper. It was off to the chopping block for poor old … (7 comments)

The Dog Days of Winter - 01/15/11 01:40 PM

I have held a false assumption for my entire life. Up until today I had believed that the expression "the dog days" referred to "the worst of" or maybe "the epitome of". I hadn't really thought about why I've heard the term the dog days of summer about a million times, but had never heard the dog days of winter being used in a sentence.
The Romans used to associate hot weather with the star Sirius. Sirius (the Dog star) used to rise at about the same time as the sun during the middle of summer in the northern hemisphere, … (13 comments)

Red Fridays in Trenton - 01/14/11 09:03 AM
Trenton is a military town. It's home to C.F.B. Trenton, Canada's largest air force base and is the hub for Canada's air transport operations within Canada and abroad. At the moment it is a very busy place, supplying Canada's operations in Afghanistan as well as our other U.N. commitments.
C.F.B Trenton is home to a few squadrons which include;
424 (Transport & Rescue) Squadron (424 Tiger Squadron) - Flying the CC-130 and CH-146. 426 (Transport & Training) Squadron (426 Thunderbird Squadron) - training for CC-130, CC-150, CH-146. 429 (Transport) Squadron (429 Bison Squadron) - Flying the CC-177. 436 (Transport) Squadron (436 … (7 comments)

I'd like more information about MLS®********* - 01/10/11 06:12 PM
This is one of my pet peeves as a real estate webmaster.

When many people fill out an information request form for a specific property, they don't specify exactly what information they are seeking. To actually arrive at this form they would have had to have already browsed through the webpage that already contains quite a bit of information about the property. I generally do know quite a bit more about the property, but I'm not sure what additional information the person is seeking.
I get an email with a name and a return address that simply states "I'd like more information about … (13 comments)

Do Not Upset The Penguin Today - 01/09/11 10:41 AM

(Ne derangez pas les manchots aujord'hui) - Avec les memes numeros.
I have eaten at many Chinese restaurants, and therefore have cosumed more than my fair share of fortune cookies. I enjoy the crispy texture and the bland almond-like taste. Getting that little slip of paper thats been inserted inside is just a bonus to most people, but that's the part of the whole deal that I live for. I don't play the lottery, so the "lucky numbers" are meaningless to me.
My fortune cookie area of expertise revolves around the actual "wordy" part of the fortune. The vast majority of fortunes … (7 comments)

Paper GPS - 01/06/11 04:48 PM

My fancy iphone finally let me down. I was looking for a certain street on my iphone GPS application and it was nowhere to be found. I was stunned and I wasn't sure what to do. How was I going to meet a potential client when I couldn't even find his house? Surely there has to be some sort of backup system when you can't find the desired location on your GPS system.
Lucky for me, there actually is a backup system for this particular problem. Perhaps you've never heard of it, so let me tell you about it. I suppose … (9 comments)
