Some Advice for Brand New Real Estate Agents - 01/31/12 03:44 PM
I guess I'm not a brand new real estate agent any more, I've moved up into the category of being a fairly new agent, I've been doing this for over three years now. I suppose that's quite a bit longer than most people who get their license. A lot of people give up. It is an intimidating prospect to be entirely dependant upon oneself to create enough business on your own to earn a paycheque.
Another intimidating prospect is learning all the paperwork so that deals are done properly and we don't screw something up. We are talking about large amounts of … (12 comments)

Saturday Evening Chuckle - 01/28/12 07:15 PM
A friend of mine just posted this video on my facebook page, so I thought I would share it. I'm not a big fan of teasing dogs, but this is rather funny and clever. I bet it gets a laugh out of you.
Can I get an awwwwwwwwww?

3 Credits Down, 21 More to Go - 01/27/12 02:29 PM
It's pretty easy to get jaded about our experiences at work. A lot of people tend to treat the education that we need to acquire to perform our jobs with a bit of disdain. I have heard people say "It doesn't work like that in the real world" or "you have to throw out everything you learned in school". There's dozens of popular sentiments that generally imply that education is not terribly useful when it comes to the actual jobs we have to perform.
I understand why people say these things because no amount of education can prepare us for the … (6 comments)

Zen and the Art of Tow Truck Driving - 01/17/12 12:28 PM
Buddhists have a great way of looking at hurdles that have presented themselves in their lives. They are thankful for them because these hurdles give them an opportunity to practice their patience. In that spirit, I'm very thankful for the huge opportunity I had on Sunday to practice my patience. If I become the sort of person who seems to handle events with equanimity, experiences such as these will have gone a long way to making it so.
I was driving to show a property on the beautiful shores of Rice Lake, and let me tell you, it's much more fun in the … (16 comments)

Not Everybody is Downsizing. - 01/12/12 04:49 PM
When it comes to real estate, we seem to pay a lot of attention to trends. It makes a lot of sense. Home buyers want to ensure that the home they are buying will retain its value, and what's more valuable than something that's in demand? Trends seem to determine what is in demand and what isn't.
Real estate professionals also keep an eye out for trends. It helps us determine where we should concentrate our efforts. Our paycheques depend on this.
It seems to me that the zeitgeist of this particular real estate era centres around the concepts of downsizing and … (12 comments)

Cross Marketing for Real Estate Agents. - 01/07/12 03:17 PM
I have spent a lot of time trying to think of innovative ways of marketing myself. Most business people who use social media have become familiar with the term "personal branding". Personal branding makes a lot of sense since most of us are trying to stand out from the crowd, and just riding the coat tails of your brokerage's image  won't cut it any more.
One of the agents in Canada who has taken personal branding to the next level is Active Rain's own Valerie Zinger. She is an Ottawa area agent, but her newest campaign has been very effective, so … (21 comments)

Trenton Ontario deserves a better Police Force - 01/05/12 01:42 PM
An incident occurred on New Years night in Trenton.
A man alleges that he was beaten by the police, and the photograph accompanying the article would suggest that there are merits to his allegations. The fact that he was in breach of his probation and the the man's arm length criminal record will be factors in the investigation. I do know the man in question, but I don't know anything about the events of that night other than what I have read in the newspaper article. I will wait for the SIU to conclude their investigation before forming any opinions on this … (14 comments)
