Am I the Only One Who Thinks This is Nuts?? - 06/28/12 08:49 AM
Is it just me, or does this seem silly to anyone else?
I was shopping for groceries last night when I noticed a product that was stocked in the aisle where I buy my drinks. The name leapt off the shelf and lodged into my brain immediately.
Fiji water. Surely it's just the name of the product and not actually water from Fiji, that would be ludicrous wouldn't it?
I picked up the bottle, turned it around, and sure enough this product is actually from the Fiji Islands. It says right on the bottle that this water comes from an artesian … (38 comments)

Morganston Ontario - 06/26/12 10:28 AM
Morganston is an unincorporated town just a little north of Castleton on Northumberland County Road 25, (exit number 497 off of the 401). This small community sits very prettily at the intersection of County Roads 25 and 27. Hard to miss??? No, not at all, it's very easy to miss.
Other than a church, a nursery, an antique store and a few homes, there isn't much that would capture a traveler's attention other than the beauty of this small town, it really is one of those 'out of the way" places that captures people's attention when they aren't rushing through their … (7 comments)

Warkworth Ontario, a Very Pretty Town - 06/25/12 06:47 AM
You will be hard pressed to find a town that is more picturesque in this part of the province than Warkworth Ontario. It is a few miles north of Codrington and a few miles south of Campbellford, just a little west of county Road 30 (exit 509 on the 401), or you can find it coming straight north on CountyRoad 25 (exit 497 on the 401).
Warkworth is a Trent Hills community, nestled in Northumberland County. To be honest, they are really drumlins, not hills, but it feels pretty much the same when you are walking up them on a warm … (3 comments)

Hilton, Orland, and Codrington Ontario - 06/23/12 10:48 AM
If you were driving along the 401 and exited at exit # 509, about 90 minutes east of Toronto you would have a choice whether to go south or north. Going south will take you to the town of Brighton, but going north towards Campbellford on County Road 30 will take you through three small communities in Brighton Township.
The first one is a small community called Hilton which consists of a few houses and a very well kept cemetery, the Hilton Cemetery on Concession 4. While I'm not yet sure that being dead is very peaceful, I can say for sure … (2 comments)

Open House in Quinte West Sunday June 24, 1 - 3 pm. - 06/22/12 08:49 AM

I will be having an open house on Sunday June 24th from 1 to 3 p.m. Everybody is welcome to come out and view this beautiful property at 16882 Telephone Road in Murray ward, Quinte West, about 8 minutes west of Trenton and 8 minutes east of Brighton. This immaculate 35 acre property is a great place for you, your family and your horses to live. The house was originally built in 1901 and has been completely restored with new wiring, new roof and trusses, new drywall, insulation, newer furnace, hardwood floors throughout, large rooms and a very large country … (8 comments)

I Want One - Now!!! - 06/21/12 10:48 AM
Have you ever been sitting in your car stuck in traffic on a hot summer's day, sweat trickling down your forehead, debating whether you should open the window or turn the airconditioning on? Sure you have. Have you ever thought to yourself "there has to be a better way"? Of course you have, we all have thought that.
What happened to those flying cars that Popular Mechanics has been promising us since the 1960's? We've seen those cheesy boat/cars come and go without much fanfare, but nobody really wanted those anyway. Everybody has dreamed about soaring above the traffic waving at all … (9 comments)

Where Cottages are still Cottages - Green Acres Ontario - 06/20/12 01:46 PM
Do you remember the old days when cottages were still cottages and not half million dollar mini mansions on the lake? Those were the days before children required hospitalization when they got bitten by a black fly and you threw out the pancake mix every week because you weren't quite sure if those black things were dehydrated blueberries or mouse droppings. Oh yeah, and the screen door always slammed shut when you left the building because the springs didn't work any more. Ahhhh, the good old days of summer cottages in Ontario.
Do such places still exist in Ontario when the going … (3 comments)

Glen Ross Ontario - 06/19/12 07:57 AM
About ten minutes north of Frankford you will find the idyllic little town of Glen Ross in Hastings County. It's a mixed community of year round homes and cottages. It's a very peaceful setting, and boats going up and down the Trent Severn waterway will be stopping here at lock # 7 on the Trent Severn waterway, so there's always a bit of activity here.
If you happen to be driving by in the summer you might notice people fishing off the large bridge. I'm not a fisherman, but I have been told that it's a really good stretch of water … (3 comments)

Hoards station Ontario - 06/18/12 09:59 AM
Hoards station is a small community in Northumberland County, just a couple of minutes west of the Hastings/Northumberland county line on County Road 8. You will pass through Hoards Station when you're driving from Stirling to Campbellford, but if you blink too long it's possible that you'll miss it. It's a very peaceful place and what many people would consider an old fashioned farming community. Hoards Station is home to the Hoards Station Sale Barn, which is the only three ring auction market for livestock in this part of Ontario. It's quite something to go and see the auctions that take place every … (3 comments)

New Additions to the Century 21 Family in Trenton. - 06/08/12 08:58 AM
It would seem that our resident groundhog had a very busy winter. Now she has at least four new rambunctious teenagers to look after. It's possible that there are more, but since I've only ever seen four at the same time, I'm assuming that there are only the four of them.

These little fellows are a little bit shy, but when they think nobody is looking they can get pretty playful with one another. From my observations though, their favourite activity is lounging around eating dandelions. It's a good life.

Despite being somewhat bulky animals  they are … (5 comments)
