Hello All,
This is a very short post about a topic that I am far from an expert on which is technology! I hope it serves more as an advisory for those that use Gmail to avoid what I went through on Friday which was a "hell of a day" because someone hacked into my email.
Here's a quick recap on what happened:
Thursday I received a message from someone I thought was credible so I opened it...the subject line read: Review my Attached Document so upon opening it the body read as follows:
Hello,
Please view the document i uploaded for you using Google docs.
Follow Here/Click Here just sign in with your email to view the document its very important.
Whatever you do, don't click here, you will sign in with your correct email and password and
essentially open the gate to pandora's box...
The following day the same email goes out from my account to all 334 contacts in my Gmail account and let the drama begin... So what it did in all actuality was seize my user & password info from forcing me to log into Google Docs which gave them the info needed to start hacking into my personal email.
I received messages from past clients, old foes and even managed to reconnect with some people from the past that will eventually turn into a check (so that's a good thing), so I managed to turn the negative into a positive BUT lets be clear it could of been much, much worse.
I had to re-verify my account, change my password and now things seem to be back to normal. So for all of my Gmail users who feel that only Yahoo, AOL and Hotmail are prone to Hacks you are wrong & YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
Now I know a lot of you Mr./Mrs Know it alls may say "why did open it in the first place"to be honest it seemed like a message from a credible source who just so happens to be up on the latest technology so I assumed what he was sending through "google docs" was legit...boy was I wrong!
Now I am pretty savvy on a pc but understand that I am far from a tech guy so I just wanted to let you all know what happened to me in hopes of it not happening to you.
Good luck and i wish you all happy, safe & secure emailing!
