speechless sunday: Happy 4th of July - picture from Lake Conroe Sailing Association boat parade! - 07/04/10 03:52 PM
This picture is actually from last years Lake Conroe Sailing Association boat parade as this years parade was canceled due to much needed rain. With the 4th being on a Sunday this year it was supposed to have taken place yesterday morning but we still had remnants from Hurricane Alex. The Cassowary is a very large flightless bird; native to New Guinea. Cassowaries are very shy, but when disturbed, they are capable of inflicting serious injuries to dogs and children. The 2007 edition of the Guiness World Record list them as the most dangerous bird in the world. In other words give them a wide berth. Our daughter took the picture on a recent trip to the Houston Zoo. I'm not sure how she got the picture without the fence in front but I guarantee you there was a fence.

Recently our daughter was in town and we took a girls day and went to the Houston Zoo. I thought this Andean Bear was the highlight of the zoo. He/She got in the goofiest positions. It appears he/she is giving thanks! I'm glad that we were on the other side of the fence as I would not want to be the meal the bear is giving thanks for.
We both had our cameras and I was trying to learn how to set the f-stops but I didn't quite get it down so this is our daughter's picture.

Our daughter works as a flight attendant for a charter company that has one of the contracts to move our troops. She does a lot of turns from Germany to Kuwait. This picture would have been taken in Kuwait. Her company gets our troops to Kuwait and then a troop transport takes them in to Iraq. This is a recent picture that she took of our troops. As these men and women serve to protect our homeland we need to keep them in our prayers!

On this Easter Sunday I thought this was a great photo. Our daughter took this picture on one of her many travels. I love the way it reflects the empty cross but also the resurrection. To me all the green ivy at the bottom reflect new life. Jesus came to die for our sins that we may live. All we have to do is ask him in to our life!

This is my grand-kitty who lives with us as our flight attendant daughter travels the world. It is amazing at how devoted she stays to our daughter. As soon as our daughter gets in town I'm second fiddle (lol). Our daughter arrives for a week tomorrow so I won't see much of Elle this next week. She loves to cuddle so I know she will return to my lap as soon as our daughter flies off to her next destination.

I was going to put this in the group where you decide what the picture is but then decided that would not be fair. You would have to have been to the Weiss Exhibition at the Houston Museum of Natural Science to know that it was an energy exhibit. The exhibit takes everyone through an oil refinery through a full 3-D color animation. Our daughter was in town this last week and we visited the museum; she of course took the picture.

This is obviously not taken here in Spring TX; although it has been brrrrrrrr cold here lately. Our daughter took this picture recently while she had a layover in Alaska. She used the 5 hours of sunlight to visit the area. I have always loved pictures of trees even when they are naked.

Our daughter is the photographer you see in the ornament.This was at my sister's house in Colorado two years ago. At the time we had thought our son was going to be deployed to Iraq so decided to go to Colorado. As it turned out he was not deployed until February so he ended up in Colorado that Christmas with us. My parents opted not to come in that year as they didn't want to battle the cold.

As many of you know our daughter is a flight attendant for a charter company. She was recently on a troop flight to Alaska and had a 30 hour layover. With co-workers she took an excursion in their 5 hours of sunlight. This series of pictures were taken in Whittier Alaska. I love the way God pours his rays out on a cloudy day. As I was driving in Spring TX this morning I noticed some rays like this coming through the clouds but I have not be honest they didn't have quite the back drop that these rays have.
We recently took a vacation to Newport Rhode Island and this was the backdrop. We used a timeshare exchange and hit the jackpot as this was our view from our deck. I was not sure what to call this picture but I did take it on Halloween so Halloween moon seemed appropriate. I am very much a novice at moon pictures but I thought this one was very cool.
I had to take a lot of pictures to get the shot. At first I thought something was wrong with the camera as it would not take the picture. Then I remembered that my daughter had told me to point the camera towards a light hold the shutter down half way and then point towards what your target is and take your shot. I took this picture in Newport Rhode Island while we were on vacation. My sister has two Indian trees on her land in Colorado. I have written a post on one of her bent Indian trees. History has it that the trees were bent to mark trails through the forest. It is thought this would have been done 100 to 300 years ago. The Indians would twists the saplings by lashing their tops down with rawhide or vines, weighting them with rocks or soil, or pegging them down with stakes.
