Fireworks on the New Year is a Texas tradition and this year we have heard them going off since early in the evening. With our severe drought this summer there was no fireworks on the 4th; believe me people are making up for lost time this evening. (It helps that is is 70 degrees out at 10:00 at night.) I just heard on the news the fireworks stands are doing record sales! Our dog and cats will be happy when we finish ringing in this New Year! The pictures above were taken at the Augusta Pines firework display last year. My slideshow will be the only fireworks we will be seeing in Harris County this year as all firework displays in Harris and Montgomery County have been cancelled due to our severe drought. We had a nice thunderstorm the other night but being about 17 inches low the ground just immediately soaked it up.
We have lived here since December 1996 and it is so strange not seeing the fireworks stands open. Usually they are doing a booming business but this is also the driest that … (21 comments)

One of the many things that we love about living in Spring TX is our accessibility to Lake Conroe. We are in two sailing clubs at Lake Conroe and today Lake Conroe Sailing Association had a destination sail for lunch. We had 5 sail boats and 13 people meet at County Line Barbeque for lunch. We had great wind and it was a fun time for all.
We started our racing experience on a 52’ sailboat with a friend in San Diego Bay. That experience was enough to give us the sailing bug and shortly after moving to Spring TX … (43 comments)

One of the many things we like about living in Spring is the accessibility to Lake Conroe. Today we went out to the lake for the day. I'm constantly trying to get pictures of Blue Heron and as soon as they see me they take off. This guy did not see me right away so he got his picture taken and then of course he took off.

spring tx: Lake Conroe Sailing Association racing season begins!! - 04/29/11 11:43 PM
Lake Conroe Sailing Association has started their racing season. We had the first Thursday night race this last Thursday. We keep our sailboat on the other side of the lake at Conroe Yacht Club so for the Thursday night race my husband crews and I help on the committee boat. If these pictures don’t make you want to come and join us I don’t know what will. We will have Thursday night races from now until September. The races start at 6:00 PM at the lighthouse in front of Seven Coves . Come join us!!

spring tx: Bird Bathing in Spring TX!! - 04/10/11 08:50 PM
It has been incredibly dry in Spring TX this spring so we have been making a concerted effort to keep our bird bath full as the birds are quite thirsty. The other morning I noticed a beautiful blue bird land on the bird bath and ran for my camera. It was the right place at the right time as before I knew it my beautiful blue bird had been joined by 4 friends.

spring tx: Spring forward in Spring, TX that is!! - 03/11/11 09:05 PM
I have always attributed the signs of spring to foliage. The foliage depends on what area of the country we are living in. In Colorado I was just just glad to see green. In North Carolina it was all those pretty spring flowers. Growing up in Kansas it was seeing daffodils come peeking through the winter landscape.
I now have a new compass to go by and it is the Bradford Pear trees in the middle of our cul-de-sac. When they start getting those beautiful white blooms I know that Spring in Spring TX is right around the corner.

Like the rest of the country we are experiencing freezing temperatures in Spring TX. I was opening a home for a buyer to take some measurements this afternoon and drove by this fountain on the way to the home. This is Spring TX we are not supposed to be having freezing temperatures. My client is moving here from Alaska and she was telling me how cold she thought it was. That made me feel better as having moved here from Colorado I was thinking I had become a wimp. Our cold is a wet cold that gets you to the bone.

Crape Myrtle murder has started early in Spring-Tomball-Magnolia TX this year. I have been driving around watching the landscapers out pruning for the last few weeks. The sad thing is that there’s absolutely no reason to scalp murder a tree the way they do. I expect many of you have heard the story of Grandma’s roast. It seems Grandma cut the end of the roast off, so Mom cut the end of her roast off and so on. spring tx: Cold Facts for Plant survival in Spring-Magnolia-Tomball TX!! - 02/01/11 10:43 AM
Last year the Houston Chronicle had a great article about plant survival in freezing temperatures. Since it is almost February I was thinking I was going to get away without having to post about this but it is not to be; we are looking to have several days of frigid temperatures starting today (lows in the low to mid 20's). Here in Houston we rarely have frigid temperatures and for sure not several days in a row. I recently walked refrigerator calendars around my neighborhood and I was AMAZED at the difference I saw in front doors. In my neighborhood the homes were built between 1997 and 2003 so if a door has not been refinished it probably should have been. I was leaving my calendars on front doors so you could say I had a bird's eye view of my neighbor's front doors. I saw some doors that had been replaced, some that had been refurbished, others that had been recently painted and I saw a bunch of doors that looked like no one had touched them … (53 comments)

As I am sitting here listening to fireworks go off I thought I would share my first foray in to firework pictures. I took these this last 4th of July which seems like the logical time for fireworks. After living here for 14 years I have still not got use to fireworks stands opening up for New Years Eve. We have been hearing them go off all evening; our animals will be glad when the new year finally arrives (lol).

I attended the Spring Klein chamber luncheon today. Our speaker was Carl Pittman a Criminal Investigator/Deputy Sheriff at Harris County Sheriff's Office. He spoke to us about business safety.
He started out asking if there's was any CSI watcher's in the room. Of course a bunch of hands went up. He went on to say it is television; crimes are not solved in 38 minutes. As a criminal investigator he wants to make sure that he has solid evidence to make the most solid case possible so criminals are locked up for a long time.

The crepe myrtles in Spring TX have been absolutely BEAUTIFUL this summer! (Maybe they like a hard winter.) I tried getting the vibrant colors while the sun was out but I found a dusk picture brought the colors out. We are enjoying the color in our back yard.

One of the many things that I love about living in Spring TX is the easy access to Lake Conroe. We are members of Lake Conroe Sailing Association and these pictures are from their recent Spinnaker Run. It was a busy day at the lake. If you look to the very top you will see a row of helicopters (they almost look like bugs in the sky). Below that was a plane that was taking pictures of the sailboats flying their spinnakers. Then of course below that are the sail boats with their spinnakers.

This Chaste Bush is in our back yard and at at the moment is drop dead gorgeous. Now I have to be honest we had a hard winter and I was convinced that it was dead. I tried to talk my husband in to taking it out but he said we should wait and see if it came back to life. I'm glad he did not listen to me as it came back to life in a big way.
