Foreclosure Activity in Bethesa/Chevy Chase & DC - 10/31/10 01:08 PM
Original Source: Foreclosures & Short Sales in Bethesda, Chevy Chase & DC
It's hard to peruse the news these days without hearing about the foreclosure crisis. While some parts of the country are gripped in an unfolding foreclosure nightmare (think Florida & Las Vegas), other parts of the country are doing alright.  Because I haven't seen a whole lot of first-hand foreclosure/short sale activity, I figured it was time to crunch some numbers to see how our close-in DC market is doing.
Now, if I were a better blogger, I would have figured out how to insert my very detailed … (1 comments)

Home Maintenance Tips for the Fall - 10/29/10 12:17 PM
Original Source:  Fall Home Maintenance Tips
My husband and I were pretty excited when we bought our first house in December 1995. And being thrifty new homeowners, it seemed perfectly reasonable to turn off the heat during our 5-day holiday trek out of town. When we got back into town it was maybe 35° outside, and 48° inside, if we were lucky. We cranked the heat, but it took at least a day before the house was comfortable again. When I went to work the next day, people reacted to my story with their jaws dropped (smug homeowners). There is a … (1 comments)

Absorption Rates @ Washington DC - 10/28/10 10:57 AM
Original Source:  http://bccdcrealestate.com/2010/10/24/absorption-rates-bethesdadc/
Sometimes when I talk about real estate, you might hear me say "we have a 4.5 month of supply of homes", which might leave you scratching your head. Simply put, I'm referring to the absorption rate, or the calculation of how long it will take for all the homes currently on the market to sell at the present rate of sales. It is not an exact science. But it does help to predict market trends. For all of you math geeks, here's how it's done. Find the number of listings currently on the market. Determine how many listings … (0 comments)

Westland Middle School Overcrowding - 10/25/10 09:20 AM

Original Source:  Westland Middle School Overcrowding Dr. Weast’s recommendation to the Board of Education to relieve overcrowding within the B-CC cluster schools is now available on the MCPS website:
He is recommending a realignment of both Chevy Chase Elementary School (CCES) and North Chevy Chase Elementary School (NCC) to grades 3-5, and the opening of a new middle school for the cluster, at which time, 6th grade in these schools would transition to a middle school environment.
An excerpt of his recommendation follows below:
…. Consistent with Board Policy IEB, Middle School Education, I strongly believe that Grade 6 students’ academic, social, … (0 comments)

The Evers & Company September 2010 Real Estate Report - 10/24/10 05:44 PM
While the average price in our area grew 9.1% in September- a gain for the 10th month in a row- the dollar volume of sales is down for the 3rd consecutive month, and the months’ supply is up to 5.1 months, making it the highest inventory yet this year. All of this means that we are still suffering a letdown from the spring market that was inflated by the First Time Home Buyers Tax Credit. While rising prices are a positive reaction to the big spring market, if inventory continues to grow, prices could also retreat.
On the other hand, with our strong … (0 comments)

Bethesda-NYC Bus - 10/04/10 05:40 PM

Original Source:  Bethesda Bus to NYC
There are now two bus lines that go directly from downtown Bethesda, MD to mid-town NYC. They are cheap, convenient, fast, and mostly quite pleasant.  And the good news is you don't have to schlep down to Union Station to catch the train, nor do you have to contend with driving on 95, which always leaves me a little harried at the end of the day.  I love it.
I've taken a few trips on the Vamoose Line. They take reservations.  The trip takes about 4 hours from Bethesda, and 4.5 hours from Arlington. They … (3 comments)
