activerain: So - Who's Headed Out to San Francisco for Inman? - 07/31/07 06:00 AM
Good Morning-
I'm getting ready to head out to the Inman Conference in a little while and I was wondering who else from AR might be going.
It's going to be great to meet up with some of you - after nearly a year of blogging, I'll be great to finally get together.
I know that Laurie Manny, Brian Brady and the whole crew from RSS Pieces  will be there.
In addition to the meet-up, there will be quite a bit to learn and probably a surprise or two........................

activerain: State of Florida Cracking Down on Mortgage Fraud! YES! - 06/20/07 04:52 PM
I got today's FAR Early Bird news and the Title of the first article really grabbed my attention:
"Crist Signs Bill to Curtail Mortgage Fraud"
- Let me tell you something, after the last BS GFE I looked at today, it's about time.
Recently (2005) - not only did Florida rank #1 in the nation for mortgage fraud, it was so bad that it was actually DOUBLE the national average.
Yesterday Governor Crist signed in a law (taking effect 11/2007) which:
"The new law makes the mortgage lending process more transparent," says Trey Goldman, FAR legislative counsel. "It also impacts buyers, sellers and real estate licensees … (50 comments)

activerain: The Latest Report on Florida Property Tax (Possible) Changes- - 06/04/07 05:15 PM
I just recieved an update from the Florida Association of Realtors® -
The first story was titled 'Property Taxes' and it started out this way:
"The Florida Legislature knows how it will reform property taxes. Now it needs details."
We all know that Florida will make some big changes to Property Taxes-
Kinda - sorta - one of these days -maybe .......
If you'd like more info on the article just click here: House, Senate leaders agree on basics of property tax relief .
I'd rather have you all read the article then my condensation of it - it's always better straight from the horses' mouth.
What do YOU think of … (9 comments)

activerain: Positive news for Florida! - 06/01/07 04:00 PM
I was just taking a look at today's Early Bird News from the Florida Association of Realtors.
The News started with the line:
Report: Worst of national housing slowdown is over.

The article continued with the statements made by Sean Snaith - an Economics Professor and Director of UCF's Institute of Economic Competitiveness.
Check out the full article by clicking here.
Hey - we all knew things were getting better - it's nice to see that the word is finally getting out!

activerain: Another Way to Help Out Students - BlogCatalog Bloggers for Good Fundraising Challenge - 05/28/07 06:00 PM
Something I'd like to think that we all agree upon is the need to help out our Public Schools and the Students that attend them.
BlogCatalog choose today, May 28th, to promote the non-profit organization: DonorsChoose.org.
The site allows Teachers to submit proposals for Projects and then the donors can pick the specific Project that they would like to help fund.
Their Home Page says it best:
"DonorsChoose is a simple way to provide students in need with resources that our public schools often lack. Here, teachers submit ideas for materials or experiences that their students need to learn. Individuals like you can choose a project and make it … (6 comments)

activerain: A New Newbie Tip: Want to start a new group? DON'T!!!!!!!!! - 05/28/07 03:23 PM
OK - hopefully that got your attention!
Now let me explain:
I'm not against Groups - I think they're great.  I've started a few myself and I've been lucky enough to have the Founders of several other Groups invite me to help Moderate their Groups' content.
I'm writing this post because I think it is very important for New Members to fully understand what's going on with the Groups before starting another one.
Currently there are 1252 different Groups here in ActiveRain.  Now if these were all UNIQUE and ACTIVE it would be great!
But that's not the case - the reality is actually pretty far … (130 comments)

activerain: A Newbie Tip for the Weekend....... - 05/19/07 12:27 PM
I'll bet a lot of you remember the advertising line: "Reading is Fundamental".
That slogan popped back into my head yesterday when I came across several instances of Members commenting on Posts that they obviously hadn't read all of the way through.
I've seen this happen many times and it usually isn't a new Member that does this, but I think it is important to hear about it early.  In that way we can help to keep this problem from getting worse.
Think about it this way: you put a ton of work into a new Post, a long article, pictures, code, links - maybe even … (25 comments)

activerain: Congratulations to Rebecca Brillhart on her first closing! - 05/12/07 10:05 AM
Please join me in congratulation Rebecca Brillhart on her First Closing!
Rebecca is a Mortgage Broker with Knightlines Mortgage Services, LLC.
Her first closing was yesterday - 5/11/07 - in Central Florida.
Knightlines prides itself on the fact that your Broker will be at the Closing table - something most Mortgage companies wouldn't even consider -
All of us in the business know what a relief it is to get that first transaction successfully finished.
Congratulations and here's to much success in the future!

activerain: Another "I can do ANYTHING!" Mortgage MO-ron. - 05/11/07 09:27 AM
One of my 'favorite' local lenders just left my office.
This guy likes to come in and pull the standard, annoying, desperate "Whut-do-ya-got-fer-me?!?" line every few weeks so it's good for a laugh if I'm not busy.
This morning I was busy, so he was nothing more then a pain-in-the-butt.  BUT - it gets worse!
I had talked to someone a few days ago about a purchase loan - the person had great credit, but the income was a problem.  They could not go full-doc, and no-doc wouldn't work for the LTV needed. (There were a few other glitches also, so please, don't tell me … (37 comments)

activerain: Working for FREE!! Forget it....... - 05/10/07 10:25 AM
Another fun experience....
I received a call from a Gentleman last week - he got right to the point.  He wanted me and my Company to "Sell his Homes".  Yup - plural - 2 Homes. Great! A call-in, easy. Two Listings just fell in my lap. There I go assuming again. Big DUH.  I tried to set a time up to come by to talk to him - he said that wasn't necessary.  Was he coming by the Office?  Nah - silly me!
Me: "OK - where do you want to meet so we can take care of the paperwork?
Him: "Oh, we're not … (41 comments)

activerain: "Don't You Know Who I Am?!??!" - Uh, no!!! - 05/05/07 12:26 PM
Have any of you ever been hit with that line?
Did you ever notice that the people who say things like that are generally NOBODIES!?!  Because, let's face it, if you're a hotshot, people DO know who you are and there would be no reason to ask - right?
OK - let's go back a few weeks:
I get a call from an Agent wanting to see one of my Office's Listings. Great! Until..... she hits me with the line:  "I hope you know that that Property isn't worth anywhere NEAR what you're asking!"
Then why are you even showing it? But I digress.  The … (21 comments)

activerain: Luxury Property in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida - 03/27/07 05:19 PM
It's not easy...
Not only having to live in Florida year-round, but also being 'stuck' in Palm Beach Gardens, surrounded by Luxury Homes and Golf, Golf, Golf.
Being able to swim all year long....
Easy access to the ocean for fishing, or just relaxing...
It really is a rough life!
(Nuts- I forgot to mention the tennis..  did I mention golf?  Oh, yeah - once or twice!)

activerain: You Just Joined ActiveRain - Now What? - 03/03/07 04:45 PM
Yesterday, Rich Schiffer said the following in one of his posts:
"What can be done to motivate new members to actively contribute to the AR community and grow their business through quality blogs?"
That's certainly an excellent point -
I've been participating on ActiveRain since October of 2006 and yes, I know this topic has been brought up before!  BUT - all of us need to do our best to make Newbies welcome and productive.  This IS a networking site and the more people that know you and your ideas, the more successful you will be in the Business world.
Laura Monroe said it very well: "Every … (274 comments)

activerain: What Are You Worth? - 03/02/07 08:47 AM
Let's start the day by being honest with ourselves.....
(Before we get too far into this, I'm not talking about 'Worth' in a psycho-babble, I'm a good person darn-it - way!)
I'm talking about money, specifically your pay / commission splits.
I'm bringing this up because I got hit with another strange employment offer.  I get them all the time, but some really stand out.  A little over a month ago I wrote about The Strangest Recruiting Technique.  Now, that was bad - but the one I got hit with yesterday was even worse.
After I cut through the BS being thrown at me I finally … (5 comments)

activerain: OK - Let's Go Over PLAGIARISM One More Time....... - 02/25/07 02:39 PM
Blatently copying other people's work has always bothered me, to say the least.  But lately things are really starting to get crazy here.
Several great articles have been writen about this problem on ActiveRain recently:
The Curse of Plagiarism and the Lack of Originality by Ryan Hukill andPlagiarism Brings Out the WITCH in Me by Kristal KraftPlagiarism by Don Fabrizio-Garcia However, even with all of these suggestions and good advice, people continue to copy other peoples' work.
I'm sure it will never completely end, but the cases I've seen and flagged in the last day or so have been so blatent it's almost comical.
If the legal ramifications of … (75 comments)

activerain: Your Ads- Do You Know What You're Saying?!? - 02/22/07 07:53 PM
Earlier today I received an email ad from a local company.
One of the things that this ad stressed was that NOW!!! they had the SECOND BEST (           ) well, fill in the blanks for yourselves - because it really doesn't matter!
This company was proud of the fact that they were not the best!
Now I know that wasn't their intention,  but all they did was say that  YOU CAN DO BETTER WITH ANOTHER COMPANY!
We all spend a ton of money on advertising- soooooooooo let's make sure it makes us look good.
Duh.
What did that ad make me … (6 comments)
