Kansas City Restaurants - Blue Nile - 06/25/10 10:32 PM
The Blue Nile Restaurant in Kansas City serves traditional Ethiopian food. I had the Dobo Watt which is a spicy chicken dish. Most of the menu items used spices in the preparation so the aroma is heavenly from the minute you walk in the door. The Blue Nile is located in the River Market of Kansas City - 5th and Main - so you can stroll through all the booths before settling down for lunch. There are several restaurants surrounding the River Market. I'll have to go back to try them all! The spicy iced tea at the Blue Nile is (5 comments)
Historic Buildings in Kansas City - The Arabia - 06/25/10 02:16 AM
Historic Buildings in Kansas City - The building itself is not historic yet it holds some of the most historically significant artifacts from its' time. The Arabia Museum in Kansas City is all about a steamboat that sank in the Missouri River in 1856. The Arabia was carrying everything needed to build the town of Logan Nebraska but without supplies, Logan was not built and the settlers instead moved to Sioux City Iowa. In the 1850's, it took about 6 days to travel from St. Louis Mo to St. Joseph MO by steamship. The ship burned ~ 32 cords of wood (3 comments)

Armour Hills is one of the more popular neighborhoods in the Brookside area of Kansas City. What makes it so desirable? When JC Nichols built many of these homes during the 30's and 40's, he stipulated that each home should look unique. So, you have this beautiful neighborhood full of Tudors, Cape Cods, and Dutch Style Colonials built with brick, stone, and wood in all different sizes. No cookie cutter houses here! You will find strong neighborhood associations which helps keep crime from spreading into the area. People walking their dogs along the tree lined streets stop and talk to (4 comments)
Opinions on Animals at Open Houses? - 06/24/10 09:54 AM
Well, we had a beautiful day in Kansas City. Lovely and sunny with just a bit of breeze. All around Brokkside, people were out walking, some with dogs, some with each other. It was a perfect day for an Open House! Guess we lucked out as Brian Buzby says it may freeze tonight. Brrr.
The kittens above were at the open house today. When I first went inside, the yellow one tried to escape. Everytime the door opened the yellow one tried to dart out. He's fast! But we caught him every time. Good thing all the visitors were animal (15 comments)

Historic Homes of Kansas City - Thomas Hart Benton House in Roanoke - Architect George Mathews. The Thomas Hart Benton House was built in 1903. You can tour this historic home in Roanoke for only $4 - I took a tour on Monday and highly recommend it. The view from the street is virtually the same as the photos I've seen from the early 1900's except that the tree has grown. The house is built of limestone mined in Missouri. I suspect that the limestone came from William Rockhill Nelson's quarry to the south but have not yet confirmed that. The (5 comments)

Mapping Your Listings Correctly will increase the chance of buyers' agents and buyers of finding - showing - seeing your listing. We all know how important timing is when showing homes to buyers. I usually schedule 2 - 10 homes in a 2 hour period. It depends on the houses we are seeing, the buyers and the distance between homes. The goal is usually to see the most houses in the least amount of time without feeling rushed. Part of my preparation is to map out which house we will see in which order. Children, bicyclists and dog walkers stroll the streets of this luscious neighborhood in all seasons. Morningside Park is just a few blocks from both of the Brookside grocery stores and the Post Office making it a truly walkable neighborhood. Oh, and the Brookside Farmers Market in season! After practicing law for a few years, he became a building contractor and then began publishing newspapers. They previously lived with 2 adults and 4 children aged 2 - teenager so our house was a bit quieter than what they had been used to. The family gave the dogs up because they were losing their home to foreclosure. I'm sure it was a hard decision but with 4 children to think of when you are facing foreclosure, I understand that feeding two large dogs was just more than they could handle.
