Are you part of the problem, or part of the solution? 
 
Sometimes things happen that you just can’t tolerate. 
A program that means a lot to me and that impacts some of the most important people in my life was recently discontinued.  The people managing it all resigned at once.  I ranted.  I raved.  I blamed.  Finally, in a moment of sanity, I realized that this was a door opening that I was destined to walk through.

It was a fabulous house about midway down the eighteenth fairway.  My buyer clients loved it and to make it even more perfect, Mack (the husband) was an avid golfer.
“I don’t know though,” he said, “I’m a little worried about golf balls hitting the windows.”

Don’t let a fixture kill your deal.
So the chandelier over your dining room table was a gift from your parents.  You want to sell the house but not the chandelier.  What should you do?
TAKE IT DOWN WHEN YOU LIST THE HOUSE!  Don’t wait for a buyer to make an offer.  Yes, you will tell your REALTOR® when you list the house that you plan to take that chandelier, but that will not prevent the buyer from saying, “That chandelier is perfect there.  I want it.”  However, if you remove it, store it and replace it with something else, … (7 comments)

Go ahead…cry my hand full.
My daddy used to hold his hand cupped under my chin when I cried and he’d say, “Go ahead, cry my hand full.”  It would make me so mad!  Then I’d start to giggle and the tears would all dry up.
Don’t let petty people or unimportant problems make you cry and complain.  Find a memory that makes you giggle and next time you want to cry for some silly reason, remember.   I see you holding a cupped hand under your chin while you giggle, I’ll know why.

Take the first step.


You are about to take a step.  It will be one of millions you will take in your lifetime.  Some sites say you’ll take as many as 10,000 each day. WOW!
How many of those steps will take you where you want to be and how many will be wasted, useless steps?  Will some of them take you into trouble or danger?  Will some take you to fun and adventure?  Surely some will take you to your goals. 
Make a plan and take the first step.  It’s really that simple.

Sellers often ask, “Are they qualified buyers?”   Buyers may soon start asking a similar question.  “Is this a qualified home?”

Often when people buy second homes or relocate to the island, they discover private septic tanks for the very first time.  If you came here from an inland municipality, which most of us did, you never had to deal with septic tank maintenance and had no clue how to begin.

I am so fortunate to be able to live at the beach.  I live right about the middle of Bogue Banks Island, in Pine Knoll Shores, North Carolina.  I live at the beach, in the woods. Once upon a time in a real estate world far, far away and no so long ago, I earned lots of money.  I paid three assistants, spent $36,000 a year on print advertising, (not counting what I spent on other forms of marketing) and people walked in my doors daily to spend money on homes and investment properties.  Life was good.

Who am I?

The whole "branding" thing has really intriqued and confused me in recent months.  Who am I?  I even went so far as to send out an email to several really good friends and asked them to describe me in one word.  The word that kept coming was "DETERMINED".  Well, Mama did say I was stubborn.

A Boardwalk next to the water, the sound of varied accents in friendly conversations, watching for wild ponies just across the sound, boats of all sizes from all sorts of places gently rocking in the marina, three little boys licking as fast as they can to keep the ice cream from melting in the warm breeze and a husband/grandpa smiling at me.  Welcome to paradise, or… Beaufort, North Carolina on Memorial Day Week-end.

Wonderful, almost wordless Wednesday on the Crystal Coast.
Is it junk or is it art?  Here on the Crystal Coast of North Carolina, folks call it local color and I call it art.  This is real fishing and other gear on the wall of a shed next to the Clamdigger Hotel which I run past almost every day of my life.  I love it.

Wonderful almost wordless Wednesday on the Crystal Coast I think if you can take a minute to savor the moments that it's the little things that cost nothing and can give you the greatest joy.  Last night I stepped out on my deck to enjoy the unbelievable moon.  Past full a couple of days ago but still awesome.  It's rays shone down on the ocean making silver threads of the breaking waves and I realized once again how blessed I am to live on an island.  Thanks God!

NOTHING CAN HURT ME.  I'M ON VACATION!Living on a resort island on the Crystal Coast of North Carolian, sometimes I want to shake vacationers for their carelessness.   Don't misunderstand.  We love our tourists.  In fact, we depend on them for a huge percentage of our local income.  We want them safe and happy...and spending money and living to return.Living and working here 365 days a year I often see otherwise intelligent, cautious people doing things they'd never do "back home". Such as:

I snapped this picture on my walk to the beach just across from my house.  Every time I see it I think of Robert Frost's "Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Afternoon."
 
"The woods are lovely, dark and deep, but I have promises to keep and miles to go before I sleep."

What can you do to help?
 
There are so many needs all around us these days.  Many people are hurting and it seems every day somebody is calling or knocking on your door or sending you a brochure asking for your support for the cause of the day. 
 
Perhaps we could all give more but if your money is tight, you may not be able to write a check.  There are so many ways to help without spending any money.
