pine knoll shores realty: Are you part of the problem, or part of the solution? - 03/31/12 02:19 AM
Are you part of the problem, or part of the solution? Sometimes things happen that you just can’t tolerate. A program that means a lot to me and that impacts some of the most important people in my life was recently discontinued. The people managing it all resigned at once. I ranted. I raved. I blamed. Finally, in a moment of sanity, I realized that this was a door opening that I was destined to walk through. “But I’m too busy. I will have to give up some other important things. I’m not good at this.

pine knoll shores realty: I’ll take a mulligan on that. - 03/08/12 09:17 AM
I’ll take a mulligan on that. It was a fabulous house about midway down the eighteenth fairway. My buyer clients loved it and to make it even more perfect, Mack (the husband) was an avid golfer. “I don’t know though,” he said, “I’m a little worried about golf balls hitting the windows.” I quickly reassured him. “Nah, I play this course often and you’ll never have to worry about that. Errant shots will wind up in the marsh or over on the tennis courts, not near your new house. The dog-leg configuration of this hole was actually

pine knoll shores realty: Don’t let a fixture kill your deal. - 02/15/12 04:17 PM
Don’t let a fixture kill your deal. So the chandelier over your dining room table was a gift from your parents. You want to sell the house but not the chandelier. What should you do? TAKE IT DOWN WHEN YOU LIST THE HOUSE! Don’t wait for a buyer to make an offer. Yes, you will tell your REALTOR® when you list the house that you plan to take that chandelier, but that will not prevent the buyer from saying, “That chandelier is perfect there. I want it.” However, if you remove it, store it and replace it with something else,

pine knoll shores realty: Go ahead…cry my hand full. - 12/12/11 04:03 PM
Go ahead…cry my hand full. My daddy used to hold his hand cupped under my chin when I cried and he’d say, “Go ahead, cry my hand full.” It would make me so mad! Then I’d start to giggle and the tears would all dry up. Don’t let petty people or unimportant problems make you cry and complain. Find a memory that makes you giggle and next time you want to cry for some silly reason, remember. I see you holding a cupped hand under your chin while you giggle, I’ll know why.

pine knoll shores realty: Take the first step. - 11/30/11 08:43 AM
Take the first step. You are about to take a step. It will be one of millions you will take in your lifetime. Some sites say you’ll take as many as 10,000 each day. WOW! How many of those steps will take you where you want to be and how many will be wasted, useless steps? Will some of them take you into trouble or danger? Will some take you to fun and adventure? Surely some will take you to your goals. Make a plan and take the first step. It’s really that simple. Now…GO!!

pine knoll shores realty: Do you have a Qualified Home? - 11/08/11 12:48 PM
Do you have a Qualified Home? Sellers often ask, “Are they qualified buyers?” Buyers may soon start asking a similar question. “Is this a qualified home?” Should you have a home inspection before putting your house on the market? The new (as of 1/1/2011) exclusive right to sell listing agreement in North Carolina advises owners to have a home inspection at the time they place their home on the market. Often sellers are reluctant to spend that money saying that the buyer will have one anyway once they go to contract and why should they, the sellers, spend

pine knoll shores realty: THE SCOOP ON POOP - 10/19/11 04:34 PM
THE SCOOP ON POOP or THE CARE AND FEEDING OF THE SEPTIC TANK Often when people buy second homes or relocate to the island, they discover private septic tanks for the very first time. If you came here from an inland municipality, which most of us did, you never had to deal with septic tank maintenance and had no clue how to begin. I frequently stand beside an open septic tank with a buyer who has never seen one before and now is hearing that his soon to be new home has septic tank issues. The septic inspection has

pine knoll shores realty: If the surf roars in the Maritime Forest and there's no-one there to hear, does it still make a noise? - 09/20/10 12:20 PM
If the surf roars in the Maritime Forest and there's no-one there to hear, does it still make a noise? I am so fortunate to be able to live at the beach. I live right about the middle of Bogue Banks Island, in Pine Knoll Shores, North Carolina. I live at the beach, in the woods. Most people don't think of the forest as part of the beach. Here, it is a very big and important part. Thankfully, when Pine Knoll Shores was being developed by the Theodore Roosevelt family, they were very environmentally aware and set up covenants to

pine knoll shores realty: Sometimes you have to close your doors to keep them open. - 06/17/10 11:34 AM
Once upon a time in a real estate world far, far away and no so long ago, I earned lots of money. I paid three assistants, spent $36,000 a year on print advertising, (not counting what I spent on other forms of marketing) and people walked in my doors daily to spend money on homes and investment properties. Life was good. And then… People stopped picking up that “HOMES” magazine where I was spending $36,000 every year and started shopping “on line.” Nobody walked in my door anymore without an appointment. Instead, they clicked on the mouse and called

pine knoll shores realty: Who am I? - 06/02/10 04:47 AM
Who am I? The whole "branding" thing has really intriqued and confused me in recent months. Who am I? I even went so far as to send out an email to several really good friends and asked them to describe me in one word. The word that kept coming was "DETERMINED". Well, Mama did say I was stubborn. But I just accidentally stumbled onto who I really am and this might help you too. I was scrolling back through almost two years of my blog entries and guess what kept popping up. Yeah, you've been watching...pictures of my

pine knoll shores realty: Wordless Wednesday...Almost...on the Crystal Coast of North Carolina - 06/02/10 04:07 AM
Wordless Wednesday...Almost...on the Crystal Coast of North Carolina A Boardwalk next to the water, the sound of varied accents in friendly conversations, watching for wild ponies just across the sound, boats of all sizes from all sorts of places gently rocking in the marina, three little boys licking as fast as they can to keep the ice cream from melting in the warm breeze and a husband/grandpa smiling at me. Welcome to paradise, or… Beaufort, North Carolina on Memorial Day Week-end. Y’all come on down and visit. You’re always welcome at the Crystal Coast.

pine knoll shores realty: Wonderful, almost wordless Wednesday on the Crystal Coast. - 04/07/10 03:58 PM
Wonderful, almost wordless Wednesday on the Crystal Coast. Is it junk or is it art? Here on the Crystal Coast of North Carolina, folks call it local color and I call it art. This is real fishing and other gear on the wall of a shed next to the Clamdigger Hotel which I run past almost every day of my life. I love it.

pine knoll shores realty: Wonderful almost wordless Wednesday on the Crystal Coast - 03/31/10 05:59 AM
Wonderful almost wordless Wednesday on the Crystal Coast I think if you can take a minute to savor the moments that it's the little things that cost nothing and can give you the greatest joy. Last night I stepped out on my deck to enjoy the unbelievable moon. Past full a couple of days ago but still awesome. It's rays shone down on the ocean making silver threads of the breaking waves and I realized once again how blessed I am to live on an island. Thanks God! Good Night Moon.

pine knoll shores realty: NOTHING CAN HURT ME. I'M ON VACATION! - 02/15/10 10:32 AM
NOTHING CAN HURT ME. I'M ON VACATION!Living on a resort island on the Crystal Coast of North Carolian, sometimes I want to shake vacationers for their carelessness. Don't misunderstand. We love our tourists. In fact, we depend on them for a huge percentage of our local income. We want them safe and happy...and spending money and living to return.Living and working here 365 days a year I often see otherwise intelligent, cautious people doing things they'd never do "back home". Such as: Driving while drinking. Allowing children to ride in the back of pick-ups or unbuckled and standing up in moving

pine knoll shores realty: Almost wordless Wednesday on the Crystal Coast. - 01/27/10 09:05 AM
Almost wordless Wednesday on the Crystal Coast. I snapped this picture on my walk to the beach just across from my house. Every time I see it I think of Robert Frost's "Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Afternoon." "The woods are lovely, dark and deep, but I have promises to keep and miles to go before I sleep." I too have promises to keep and miles to go before I sleep, but I'll probably take a little detour through the woods first. Life is short and I don't want to wonder what I missed by

pine knoll shores realty: What can you do to help? - 01/27/10 08:57 AM
What can you do to help? There are so many needs all around us these days. Many people are hurting and it seems every day somebody is calling or knocking on your door or sending you a brochure asking for your support for the cause of the day. Perhaps we could all give more but if your money is tight, you may not be able to write a check. There are so many ways to help without spending any money. Here's some of the things I'll be doing that take only my time, energy and talents: I'll
