cornwall new york: As the Seasons Change, So Do the Views … Well, Most of Them… - 11/20/08 12:11 PM
I was driving up the road today enjoying the seasonal views, which in the Hudson Valley means enhanced views of the mountains ... so much so that you have no doubt you are in a valley. In Cornwall, they seem to encircle you; you get the feeling that you are in one big bowl! To provide enough water for its millions, New York City owns and maintains reservoirs in upstate New York. When it decided where to locate these reservoirs, it did not matter if a town stood on the desired spot ... open the flood gates, bye-bye town. Thankfully,

cornwall new york: Happy Halloween ... Forget the Leaves! - 10/31/08 12:27 PM
Lots of work to do removing gazillions of leaves before snow falls and they haven't finished dancing off the branches yet. Sometimes we make it in time and sometimes we do not. It's a much more enjoyable spring when we do! That sight of wet leaves peeking through melting snow or crocuses, poking through wet leaves, peeking through the melting snow is not the way to start the season. View of the Schunemunk Mountains and more leaves to fall Punkin and leaves Leaves to the front of me! And leaves to the back of

cornwall new york: On Active Rain, Just About Everything Serves a Purpose - 06/23/08 09:34 PM
We can market ourselves in just about everything we post. It is an opportunity we did not have before in exactly the same way. Getting mellow sitting on my deck, thinking about photos of gorgeous flowers from warmer climes members share ... thinking that true blessings are those that are there for everyone ... a blue sky ... a sparrow chirping ... the cool feel of grass beneath your feet ... even that squawking blue jay. Wondering what we my husband will throw on the grill this evening ... remembering that I bookmarked a post on how to grill veggies,

cornwall new york: My Deer! Where Have All My Hostas Gone! - 06/21/08 09:39 AM
Well, those delightful creatures have made a nice meal out of my hostas again this year. They are very brazen in my neck of the woods. In fact, there is one particular deer whom I consider to be "My Deer." She spends most of her day here munching away or sleeping and is not fazed at all if I pass by. Unless, of course, I start my car or point a camera. I am training her to eat weeds and, look, it's working! However, the preeminent event of the summer is yet to come ... the race to pick peaches. We

cornwall new york: The ORIGINAL Orange County - 06/20/08 01:26 PM
George Washington slept here and it is home to the oldest winery in the country. However, there is no connection between the two ... Orange County, NY, established 1683. So, for what is Orange County known? The earliest carbon dated human settlement in North America, over 12,500 years old Mastodons ... more of their skeletons can be found here than any place on earth The oldest winery in the country, the Brotherhood winery in Washingtonville, founded 1839 Its black dirt region, where Pine Island is the onion capital of the world The oldest military academy in the United States, the United

cornwall new york: Recycle … Buy an Existing Home! - 06/15/08 12:49 PM
Think about it ... If no new building materials and energy resources have to be used in a home, we are one step ahead. More and more, we see renovation companies thinking green and helping homeowners improve the energy efficiency of their older homes. This can mean more affordable homes for homebuyers who recognize a good thing when they see one and know they can upgrade the home they buy at their own pace. Green does not always have to mean new. And think about where all that material goes when we tear down older homes, and the accompanying costs to
