COLLEGE STATION (Real Estate Center) - Texas' economy gained 133,100 jobs from August 2009 to August 2010, an annual growth rate of 1.3 percent.  During the same period, the U.S. economy added 278,000 jobs, an annual growth rate of 0.2 percent. The state's private sector posted an annual employment growth rate of 1.4 compared with 0.3 percent for the United States. :  Almost half the new jobs in the country were added in Texas.

WASHINGTON - The U.S. House passed a NASA authorization bill late Wednesday that provides new direction for the space agency after months of fear over aerospace job losses and program uncertainty.
The compromise bill funds the International Space Station through 2020, schedules another space shuttle mission in 2011 and dedicates $1.3 billion over the next three years to spur commercial development of a low-Earth orbit vehicle for astronauts and cargo.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Fannie Mae) - Fannie Mae has announced new incentives on Fannie Mae-owned properties listed on the company's REO website, www.HomePath.com.
Qualified homebuyers who will be owner-occupants can receive up to 3.5 percent of the final sales price that can be used toward closing cost assistance, including a home warranty, if desired and available.
In addition, selling agents representing owner-occupants will receive a $1,500 bonus. Eligible offers must be submitted on or after Sept. 23, 2010, and must close by Dec. 31, 2010. The sale must close within 60 days of the offer being accepted.

The mall, located at 10000 Emmett F. Lowry Expy. in Texas City, was recently taken back by its lender, Pacific Western Bank.
The property had been owned by a group from Sherman Oaks, Calif. The ownership entity filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in February.

AUSTIN (Austin Business Journal) - Five Texas cities were among the nation's fastest growing between 2000 and 2009, according to revised U.S. Census Bureau population figures released Friday.
Houston ranked second in growth, adding 284,199 residents during the nine-year period. San Antonio ranked fourth with 213,752, Fort Worth fifth with 184,239, Austin ninth with 118,137 and Dallas 11th with 110,640.
