Everything is buzzing in Hamilton Coutny and Chattanooga Tennessee

Since the recent announcement that Volkswagon is coming to Enterprise South, it seems that there is a buzz of activity locally. For those of you thinking about relocating to the Chattanooga, Tennessee area, there will be many new things to look forward to and an electricity in the air.

I have seen that the local universities in and around Chattanooga, Tennessee, have begun ramping up their curriculum to accomodate Volkswagon's need for trained employees. This is not only good for Volkswagon, but, for anyone seking a diverse educational experience and coming to the Chattanooga area.

Rental investments are alive and well here in the Chattanooga area as well. I know of several investors who are busy sprucing up their properties and looking for others to purchase. Realtors are all a flutter trying to figure out how to get in on the "gold rush" so ancillary services; printing, advertising, sign making, have all got to benefit.

The construction industry has been infused with new blood as well. Big contracts are going out for the actual building of the Volkswagon plant as well as the roads to service it. I can't help but believe that single family house construction will also increase shortly.

Aside from the immediately recognizable benefits, there will certainly be so bleed over into cultural and philanthropic areas too. I am sure that Volkswagon will want to sponsor and donate to local events and groups and I am sure that there will be a carry over in increased attendence at events and cultural activities.

All in all, the Chattanooga, Tennessee area is a great place to live; housing is still affordable, taxes remain low, and there is an abundance of places to go and things to do from a very convenient location. We look forward to welcoming all of the new arrivals and hope that you will choose us to serve you for your housing needs.

Another Great Marina is for Sale in Tennessee on Watts Bar Lake

Guys, once again Bayside Marina in Ten Mile Tennessee is for sale. I thought that I had it sold when I had it listed, but, their finacing didn't work out. The owner has re-listed it with another real estate agent and it is available again. This particular marina is located on Watts Bar in Roane County Tennesse and is a wonderful location in a growing area. Watts Bar lake has become extremely popular and property values have skyrocketed even in this troubled economy.

Byside Marina has 113 boat slips and a restaurant, boat store, small motel and cabins as well as a campground. There is always a waiting list on Watts Bar Lake for good slips, especially houseboat slips.

I have sold other marinas on Watts Bar and they are doing great today. This is a sleeper and the ideal use for this site would be to upgrade the marina for bigger boats and then to dvelop the remaining property for residential use. There are other properties surrounding the marina that are potentially available. I have investigated this previously and the owners have stated that they were willing to sell.

Poodles Update Marilyn has points!!!

My youngest Poodle, Ridgewood's Starlit Coast a.k.a. Marilyn, now has four points. She was shown four weekends and now has turned a year. She also took reserve to a five point major in Orlando, Florida in June. In Mississippi she won Best of Winners on a Thursday and then Best of Opposite sex on a Sunday all in June. We are so proud of this girl. She turned one year old on July 16th and so she is home now to grow more coat. Growing coat is a tremendous challenge for me. I am busy and generally don't have the patience that it takes to gently weave through spider webs in the coat to prevent matting and to brush out a re-band the locks everyday. That is probably why handlers get so much for their time. Since I am now about $7,000 poorer than I was, I have decided to rough it and grow coat at home until she is ready to show again. So...you know what I'll be doing every day for at least four or five months. I will post her win picture just as soon as someone tells me how to fix my computer to allow me to browse and upload pictures again.

Why can't I upload photos to AR?

it's been a while since I've blogged and I just posted a listing. I wanted to add pictures to it, but, when I click on browse my computer just chimes and doesn't open my picture files so that I can select photos. I find this very frustrating because it used to work fine and now it doesn't. The listing isn't done justice without phots but I have tried everything that I know to make the upload process work and it still won't. I did go to update blog and was able to upload a photo, I just can't get browse to work on my blog. Anyone out there that can tell me how to fix this I would appreciate hearing from. Thanks in advance.

As everyone knows, I show dogs. There is a type of dryer that is called a force air dryer. They can be big and very powerful or small and efficient but not overwhelming. We use these to dry long coated dogs fur. The tack box that I showed you will fit the one that I have inside on the bottom. Mine is a small one from Kim Laube. Once again you can find a selection of these at http://www.petedge.com/ they range in price from about $89 to $250.

Once again, I was thinking and it seems that this little but powerful dryer could be very helpful for speeding drying of paint or glue or blowing water off of surfaces or quick drying upholstery touch ups. I don't know gang, I am not a stager, but, it does seem as if this little gadget just may save the day!

An Update on Last Night's TuTu Report

I got a call today from the breeder in California that has TuTu. It seems that she was in a long tie with the stud dog and it is felt that the breeding has been successful. Isn't that exciting? Puppies should be on the ground around June 7th. I texted TuTu's owner in Brazil and she was very excited too. The male is white and this should be a gorgeous all white litter. Given the lineage on both sides we expect at least a few champions to be in the litter. This is Twinkle's first litter so fingers crossed. We thinkj that she should be a good mother. She is a swet and sensible girl. Well, I'll keep everyone posted on her progress.e

Newark, N.J. Interesting Ethnic History

As many of you know I am a native of New Jersey and I was born in Newark in the 1950's. My parents were raised in Newark and lived there when they were first married. Many of my relatives stayed there well into the 1970's. My paternal grandmother immigrated here from Poland when she was only 17 and went from New York to Newark as did many in the Polish community. My maternal grandparents immigrated here also from the Ukrane. There were gypsies in my mother's family background. All of them came in through Ellis Island and I have copies of the records. As a child I remember visiting my grandmother in Irvington which borders Newark and was the home of Olympic Park which I had the privilege of visiting.

My grandmother's heart was still in Newark and thus we visited the downtown shopping area to buy school clothes and ethnic delicasies such as Polish Kielbasa and pot cheese. We had moved first to Union, N.J. and then to Tinton Falls, N.J. Newark was a booming town back then with an active rail terminal, a large Greyhound bus station and big department stores in the downtown area. It was quite a nice place to go as an alternative to New York City.

And then it burned!!! ........................................................ 1967

It was then that the famous Newark riots occured. I was there. We went to get my grandmother out of Irvington but unbeknownst to us, she had walked into Newark to get her cheese. It was surreal driving down the Garden State Parkway and seeing National Guard personnel posted and armed at every exit. Well, to make this a short story we got my grandmother out and as best that I know and is reported, Newark has been on a decline ever since and has never recovered despite multiple attempts at redevelopment.

It really was such a nice town with all sorts of immigrants rich with their culture and I never felt unsafe. It was a haven for all nationalities and they each had their neighborhoods. There wasn't talk of segregation; they liked it that way with their shops that carried their cultural selections located in the neighborhood. There are so many that grew up there and are slowly dying off that wish it could regain it's charm. I just thought that some of you might find it interesting to know a little about the rich history of Newark, N.J. nd for Realtors, it would be very difficult back until the 70's to comply with the fair housing laws because people were very adamant about being in their cultural enclave and do you know what? I am not so sure that it might not have been o.k. then and enriched history, not blighted it.

TuTu Report

Many of you remember me telling you about Twinkle a.k.a. TuTu's visit and her planned breeding. Well, Monday I sent her from Atlanta to California hoping that we caught her heat cycle right. Well guess what? The breeder called me yesterday and said that there was one breeding with a short tie. She is planning on attempting again today and then again on Sunday. We have our fingers crossed. If all goes well there will be June pups on the ground. Kathy her owner is still in Brazil but she is very happy. We are both looking forward to the pups!

A Handy Tool for Stagers? I Use it for Poodles!

I just got to thinking a few days ago, (always dangerous) that stagers might find this tack box on wheels helpful for carrying a bunch of neccessaries to the houses. It is a great two piece item with a telescoping handle and wheels. There are little compartments for rubber band or tacks, nails etc. There are also shelves that we use for hairspray and shampoo, but, stagers might use it for cleaners or glue etc. It locks so that you coulod keep a camera in it and it has loops that we use for combs and brushes and stagers could use for screwdrivers etc. It is available at www.petedge.com ffor bout $89.

Marilyn's Bootcamp Report

As many of you know, my girl, "Marilyn" Ridgewood's Starlit Coast, has been away since January in Florida with Kay, her handler. You also know that I was in gref over her separation from our family. Well, I recently received pictures of her to show her progress. I thought some of you might like to see how she was doing

Look at all that hair! I am glad that someone else is taking care of it.

Kay also had her tested for allergies since she was scratching a lot. It turns out she is allergic to many things including poultry, Bermuda grass, and rabbit, of all thins. It was a very comprehensive test and they sent a complete report including food recomendations. It cost $278 to have this done but it ws well worth it.

Collegedale is beautiful place to be in Spring. The ball teams start playing nightly at the fields behind the Villge Market and the soccer players t Southern University start their practices.

Animal Abuse Registry

The state of Tennessee has a bill pending that would require all those convicted of ggravated animal abuse or bestiality to register with the state. Penalties would be imposed for failing to register or update their file if they moved.

This will be almost identical to most state's sex registries. The state will maintain a web site with pictures and other relevant data just like the sex registration sites.

This bill has passed in the state house but is hung up in the state senate. This sounds as if it would be an excellent attempt to minimize animal abuse and make people aware before placing pets with individuals. It would be great if all animal lovers would write the Tennessee legislatures to encourage them to pass this bill

Fire and Pets

Something that we all need to think about.........The possibility of fire in your home when your pets are inside. The thought scares me to death. Recently on the news there was a story about a family who had a house fire. They were all able to get out but their cats were not. One cat waas saved by firefighters but 3 others died.

I also wrote a blog in December about memebers of my kennel club who were out on Christmas Eve when their house caught fire. They lost 14 show dogs. Only some pups and the mother were saved. This gives me pause to think; what can be done to minimize this threat to our pets. If they are in the house they will be trapped and most likely no one will know to look for them.

How about if we had a way to let firemen and neighbors know who was in there and WHERE? Well. they do this with kids so why not pets? What if we were to get window stickers that indicated that a pet or more specifically how many pets, were located in that room and put those on the outside of windows?

I also think that a notice on the front door would be helpful. I intend to implement these ideas soon and you may wish to also. Most of us would be devastated if we lost our precious babies.

Easter Sunday - Twink Goes to the Collegedale, Tn. Airport(It's Not What You Think)

The Collegedale, Tennessee is a small, but, an active little airport located on the corner of Apison Pike and Bess Moore Road in Collegedale, right on the Apison border. It caters to the Southern University, McKee Foods (Little Debbie); the Seventh Day dventist Church and local enthusiasts.

For a small are this is a very active airport. You may have read about tragic crsh after tkeoff about 12/3 years ago when four people were killed including the regional head of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. You will see mostly small single engine planes but there are few antiques and a few twin engines also.

The airport boasts a nice little cafe the Sky View Cafe which features burgers and sandwichs as well as country home cooking features t dinner time.

It was a beautiful but chilly day. Temperature around 59 with a slight breeze.

Twink went with me and she seemed to enjoy herself. She is such a good dog. We rode with the sunroof open.

There are lots for sale, roughly 1 acres, which are "hanger lots". Each owner has access to the runway and the right to construct a hanger. These lots average about $70,000.

Once a year the airport hosts a Fly-In and the whole community is invited for demonstrations and tours.

PCA Salisbury Maryland 20008 - I'm Staying Home This Year-Bummer!

The Poodle Club of America National specialty show is coming up on the 11th of April in Salisbury Maryland. This is the premier, eliite event for Poodles and I won't be there. I'm bummed out! I went last year for the 75th Anniversary show and had ball. I had reservations made at two hotels last year and now I have to cancel. It seems that life got in the way. I was sitting here thinking about it and all the friends and great Poodles I was looking forward to seeing.

This is a picture of the Purina booth at the show. They are very gracious and provide attendees with breakfast and many freebies.

AN Active Rain Sucess!!!!

Well, now I have my own evidence that it works! Today a buyer that came to me via my AR blog, put an offer in on a lake property. He had called me about three weeks ago and inquired about buying land in Tennessee on Norris Lake. After some discussion he decided to come down this weekend to look around. He apparently found a nice piece of property on which to build his vacation home and made an offer. I referred him to a friend who also works the lake and lives right there. I do this on the occassions that the buyer is looking for something that I don't have or that I am unfamilar with. It is better for the customer and I always say, a little of something is better than all of nothing.

Twink Has Started Bleeding --She Will Be on Her Way To California

Twink started bleeding today so my darling little house guest will have to go on the plne this week to Californi to meet her husband. I will miss her greatly. She hs been such a super, well behaved guest. Her owner is hoping that she will have several nice pups around the end of May. I will be sure to keep everyone updated. I hate the thought of putting her in her crate and shipping her like cargo but I have to. Monday I will take her to the vet for clearance and she will probably leave Wednesday. I am tagging on some pictures of her being a couch potato in my house in her scruffies. She had a bath today so she is now all fluffed out and white. These are the before pics.

Happy Easter everyone. What a glorious day we had here to harkon in the holiday and the beginning iof Spring. It was 75 degrees here again and just glorious. Tomorrow is promising to be cold, but, at least we had today. To all of you who are celebrting with your families, plese enjoy yourself, be safe and think of what you are grateful for because it really helps to keep you happy. I wish that I were as talented as some and had some beautiful eggs or spring pictures to share with you but I don't/ I guess that you'll have to use your imagination but imgine a great holiday. We will be having one here in Collegedale Tennessee.

Resurection Pagent in Collegedale Tennessee Presented by the Seventh Day Adventist Community

Today in Collegedale Tennessee, the annual ressurection pagent was once again held and the entire community was invited.This is definitely a treat for young nd old. In this Easter celebration, the final hours of Christ's life, including the ascension, are re-enacted by means of walking tour that includes camels and sheep and five hundred members of the Southern University student body. There is music by various choirs from throughout the county and the public is invited to participate regardless of affiliation. The pilgrimage walks through Collegedale, stopping at significant spots for a portion of the ceremony. If you are in town next year, it is something that you don't want to miss. Sorry, I don't have ant pictures that I can share with you.
