It has been an exciting few days in Marin County California. On Friday morning hurricane-force winds overturned 5 big rigs on the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge, resulting in closure of the bridge. Highway 101, the main north/south artery through Marin County was also closed for a while when winds toppled falsework supporting the construction on the new Interstate 580 overpass near San Rafael. Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, which transverses Marin from east to west was briefly closed due to fallen trees, and flooding closed a portion of the Coast Highway Friday morning.The recent storms hit Marin hard. Real estate is alive and well in Marin. Although overall sales are down, the median home price for homes in Marin County is up. In October 2006, the median price in Marin was $915,000 while the median price for a single-family home in October of this year is $978,000, an increase of nearly 7%.More good news is that sales volume is up slightly throughout the Bay Area as compared to last month, although it is still down from October of 2006.
