humor: Listing of the Week 7-1-09 - 07/01/09 12:41 PM

Are you stumped by the current state of the housing market?   One too many deals trunkated after so much work?
Wood you like to branch out and offer a more unique property for your buyers?
How 'bout this beauty?   Great view, wraparound porch...a real treet.  Heck, even the Keebler elves would be jealous.

humor: Listing of the Week 6/15/09 - 06/15/09 06:20 PM

OK, it's been a while since I shared an out-of-the-ordinary dwelling with you so this one's a stone-cold winner.
What unique property with igneous and sedimentary infused walls and a view that is simply metamorphic!
Naturally nestled in a delightfully steep hillside, the rooftop offers unparallelled sledding, skiing and snow-tubing thrills in the wintertime while really not doing much at all to squelch the brutal heat of the direct sunlight in the summer.
Parking may be a problem, too, but I wouldn't worry too much about it.

humor: Listing of the Week 4/29/09 - 04/29/09 09:24 AM

"Beachfront" property with "statuesque" rock formations with lots of peace and solitude.  We've been flooded with offers but are still testing the waters for the right buyer.  With the current wave of interest and stream of buyers, don't be left off the boat.  Pool your resources together and make an offer.

humor: Listing of the week 4/22/09 - 04/22/09 12:11 PM

This house is a real treet.  A great place to hang around with the family or friends, too.  Great view, but be careful going down the stone steps...they're steep.  Also, I wouldn't recommend going out on the capsule porch during storm fronts with high winds.  Cliff dwelling has never been so chic.

humor: Listing of the Week 3/30/09 - 03/30/09 02:08 PM

Once upon a time in Galveston, TX, (in the 1950's) someone decided to build their living quarters not just out of steel...but in the shape of a kettle!
If anyone actually lives in the house, I have to think that it must surely be well air conditioned and insulated, but I can't help but love the irony (yes, pun intended) of a metal house in the brutal heat of Texas of all places.
This is a home that, while panned by some, has a lot of potential with its stirring rustic allure.  Clean as a whistle and bubbling with originality, … (3 comments)

humor: Listing of the Week...Stardate 3-9-2009 - 03/10/09 11:32 AM

A big shout-out to agents in Chattanooga, TN!  I'd love to talk with one of you if you've ever actually listed this property or anything equally unique.
If you want to read more about this unique property, just click on the picture.  Here is an excerpt:
"Chattanooga, Tennessee is the location of one of the most bizarre abodes we have ever seen; the UFO house, which has a single entry point via a button activated stair case, curved bar area and customized bathtub, as well as various UFO paneled controls throughout that are simply priceless, or so you would think.  … (0 comments)

humor: Do You Feel Like This? Here's Catharsis - 02/27/09 05:19 PM
If you've been feeling particularly frustrated in today's market, here's a little catharsis for you as we go into the weekend.  This post by Lisa Whittle covers everything, I think.   It's a vent, to be sure, but sometimes you've just gotta get it out so keep it in perspective as you read:)
I may NOT be the Realtor for you! (Written after a particularly frustrating month in the Real Estate world.)
You think a “buyers market” entitles you to steal property.  It doesn’t.
You only want to be told what you want to hear.  Sorry.
You want to be driven … (3 comments)

humor: Listing of the week 2/23/09 - 02/23/09 04:33 PM

I missed last week with the "Listing of the Week," so I thought I owed you a real dandy this week.
A picture that's worth a thousand words.
A cathartic picture of sorts when you look at the metaphoric value of it all.  Nearly every agent I've shown this picture to has said to me "You know, I feel like I've listed that house...more than once!"
Anyway, if you like lots of natural light, lots of open space, a view from every room, and a low electric bill ('cos there is none) then this is the home for you!
Cheers!

humor: Listing of the week 2/9/09 - 02/09/09 05:32 PM

At least the mortgage isn't upsidedown, right?  Try selling this beauty!
You'd probably have a lot of takers, truth be told.  There's a bit of history behind this house, created by Daniel Czapiewski in the village of Szymbark, northern Poland.  Click here to read about it and what it represents to their culture.
Considering our market, I couldn't resist putting up a picture of an upsidedown house.  I admire and respect all of you who are repairing the damaged integrity of real estate.  I hope 2009 is a year of happiness for you and your families.
Cheers!

humor: Don't Put Your Foot In Your Mouth - 02/06/09 02:54 PM
I just had a great conversation with Milton Heide, an agent who has been working in real estate as long as I've been alive (41 years) and who always has a way of bringing a fresh perspective into our discussions.
He was relating a story about a deal that went sour and came up with this gem:
"Don't put your foot in your mouth, because then you can't talk...and you can't walk."
I can think of more than one instance where this applied in my life.  It felt like hell at the time, but at least I can laugh about it … (5 comments)

humor: Listing of the Week 2/2/06 - 02/02/09 05:06 PM

I've put some crazy homes in here before, but this one's here because I love the mountains and I wish I lived there!  This is a real home built over a waterfall on Bear Run in the western Pennsylvania highlands, constructed for Edgar J. Kaufmann, Sr.   For more info on it, click on this link and scroll down...you'll see the picture.

So how does the plumbing work?   I bet the cost for landscaping alone is ridiculous.

humor: Listing of the Week 1/19/09 - 01/19/09 04:13 PM

Okay, I can understand how an open house WOULD be a hassle for this one.   Just have an icepick handy to make some fresh snowcones for everyone.  Wonder what kind of school district this is in.

humor: Important Short Sale Information - 01/14/09 09:02 AM

A colleague of mine emailed this to me with the same subject line and I just had to post it...once I finished laughing.
Hope you got a laugh, too:)

humor: Listing of the Week - 1/14/09 - 01/14/09 06:05 AM

I actually had breakfast here years ago.  It's on Highway 61 going north, between St. Francisville, LA and Natchez, MS.

humor: Brilliant Marketing In Action - 06/13/08 08:42 AM
I saw this commercial last night and I don't think I've laughed this hard at a commercial in 10 or 15 years. It was on during the pre-game of the NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers. I think it's great example of a funny idea (it's a Gas-X commercial...yeah, I know I'm a kid in a man's body) that is made arguably brilliant by the attention to detail.

When you're done laughing, notice these five things:
1. The casting is perfect. Each actor/actress is perfect for his/her part and executes flawlessly.
2. The man's facial expressions, … (2 comments)

humor: The Laugh Collector - 04/04/08 10:03 AM
I just know you've all had something funny happen to you as a real estate professional.
Marc Hargraves, the Senior VP of the company I work for (GetMyHomesValue) is also a laugh collector.
He's looking for funny real estate stories to share and is sharing some of his own, so please stop by his blog and leave a comment relating your funny real estate story...or stories.
As Marc says on his blog "With today's ever changing and challenging market, we can all use a laugh."
I couldn't agree more.

humor: Doodling With Tom Hopkins - 01/29/08 10:00 AM
I was reminded recently of a "Get Motivated" seminar I attended last April in Baltimore, MD.  I have to admit, I wasn't thrilled about going.  I have a rather cynical view of these types of things, as the effects rarely last beyond the next day.  But you feel so good!
Anyway, this seminar featured some great speakers including Colin Powell, Zig Ziglar, Suze Orman and Tom Hopkins.
Tom Hopkins...the man who is in the Guinness Book of World Records for most real estate transaction sides in a year. He was awesome.  Absolutely floored me.  He wasn't dishing out motivational fluff.  He … (4 comments)

humor: My Sister is Worth 6,000 Camels...and then some - 01/24/08 11:37 AM
My sister and her husband, who is a Methodist minister, just returned from a visit to the Holy Land today.  They've been there for the last week and a half and I'm still cracking up from what she just told me:
While at the market there, a man offered my brother-in-law 6,000 camels, his business and his own home in return for my sister.
I just had to post this because it's one of the most bizarre things I've ever heard.
I'm immediately skeptical, though...were they ONE hump or TWO hump camels?  This IS my sister we're talking about. Don't be … (13 comments)
