green living: What Does a $2,000,000 Vegetable Garden Look Like? - 2009 Clark County Parade of Homes - 08/16/09 10:37 AM

What Does a $2,000,000 Vegetable Garden Look Like? - 2009 Clark County Parade of Homes As I mentioned in one of my July posts, Are Vegetable Gardens The New Granite Counter Tops?! A "Must Have?", discriminating buyers are starting to list vegetable gardens on the list of items that they must have in their next new home. Based on this year's Clark County Parade of Homes, it looks like at least one builder is getting the message!Ryan Zygar, of Tamarack Homes, has just recently finished his latest masterpiece, The Hampton, for the 2009 Clark County Parade of Homes. green living: I Have Looked Into My Crystal Ball And The Future Looks Green! - 07/13/09 04:48 PM

I Have Looked Into My Crystal Ball And The Future Looks Green!I have been very encouraged by some of the questions that we have been getting from clients regarding Eco-Friendly and Green features for their future homes. Most of the questions revolve around energy saving devices but they are questions that no one ever considered just a few short years ago.How can we tell how energy efficient these windows are?
Is that a high efficiency furnace?
Is that a high efficiency water heater?
Can you find us a home with raised vegetable gardens? So what does this mean for the future … (6 comments)

green living: Are Vegetable Gardens The New Granite Counter Tops?! A "Must Have?" - 07/06/09 01:11 PM

Are Vegetable Gardens The New Granite Counter Tops?! A "Must Have?"I havea client who absolutely has to have slab granite counter tops in the kitchen. Why not? They are both beautiful and functional. But raised vegetable gardens? Are they becoming the new "Must Have?"As a real estate agent in Vancouver Washington, I have seen it all. I have worked with buyers who don't like to mow the lawn and wouldn't look at any home on a lot bigger than 6,000 sq. feet. And buyers who wanted to live in the country and wouldn't consider anything on less than an acre. … (3 comments)

Vancouver Washington Steps Up Their Curbside Recycling Program!
I just received a tri-fold flyer in the mail from our waste handling company here in Vancouver Washington, Waste Connections. Our recycling program is getting revamped and we will now have the ability to recycle more volume per household.I have to say that I am kind of surprised. SURPRISED that it took SO LONG!Please know that I am not being critical here. Its just that, as of January 2009,  the Vancouver School district was one of only 2 in the nation to have an integrated recycling program. That is some exciting stuff. Our … (0 comments)

green living: Raised Gardens and Composting and Worms, Oh MY! - 05/03/09 03:59 AM
Lately, I have been on a gardening kick. It happens to me every year during the early spring. We have the most beautiful spring days here in Vancouver Washington. As the fruit trees start blooming I start to ITCH. (No, its not allergies!) First a little weeding. Then a little mowing. Then I start looking for a project. Last week I built two raised vegetable gardens. They aren't planted yet as I need to build covers to keep the deer out. Read here for a comic tale of my battle with the local deer population. I have narrowed my next project … (4 comments)

green living: GREEN - Has The Media Stolen Our Buzzword? - 04/28/09 03:37 AM

The word "Green" has become a very overused buzzword that the media uses to describe everything from new energy efficient cars to tree hugging hippies. The word "Green" has been used to market ultra high tech products in our life like photovoltaic solar panels and it has been used to market ultra low tech products in our life like re-usable shopping bags.
Because of the media's need to overuse every new buzzword in existence, "Green" has become very confusing to the general public.
Let's talk about how "Green" fits into real estate. Don't think that is  going to make … (5 comments)

green living: Another Awesome Green Product at Portland's Better Living Show! - 04/13/09 03:21 AM
The next notably green product that I discovered at the Energy Trust Better Living Show at the Portland Expo Center is the little gem.360 Vodka. Vodka with a "Green" State of Mind. They are referring to their product as "The World's First ECO Luxury Vodka" and I think that they may be right.360 Vodka obviously isn't a green product that is going to save the world or revolutionize the green industry but they have gone to extraordinary lengths to assure that their product is as eco friendly as possible. They call it their 3 P's. (Shown below)While their vodka is undeniably … (7 comments)
