marketing: Who Are You Marketing To? And How? - 04/06/11 11:33 AM

I met with a builder yesterday to talk about putting together a shared marketing program that would benefit the two of us. He has been very proactive in his marketing and has found a small amount of success. I asked to see the different types of marketing that he had done in the past. He told me that he had a multi pronged approach and was using a local newspaper, the real estate listing type book for our area, and the internet. He pulled out the spread sheets for his pat advertising and I noticed something right away. They were … (7 comments)

marketing: Free Samples - Observations That Might Increase Your Business! - 03/05/10 06:47 AM

Free Samples - Observations That Might Increase Your Business!About a year ago, I wrote a post about Building Your Real Estate Business With Free Samples! It is a topic that fascinates me because it is cheap, easy, and effective.( Just like me! lol) Since writing that post, I have been on the look out for more examples of how people are using a free sample marketing plan to build their business. Of course I am not talking about the obvious. Laundry soaps and dishwashing detergents won't be on my list. I like things that are a little more obscure.Meet … (8 comments)

marketing: Why FSBO's Don't Sell. Vancouver Washington Real Estate - 12/25/09 11:45 PM
Why FSBO's Don't Sell. Vancouver Washington Real Estate
There is a home for sale on my way to work every morning. The reason that it sticks out in my memory is that it has been for sale for the last 2 or 3 years. As a matter of fact, as I sit and think about it, it has been for sale for so long that I don't ever remember it NOT being for sale!
It is a gorgeous house. It appears to be very well kept and maintained It is a ranch style home and about 2500 square feet. It sits … (3 comments)

marketing: What do your signs say about you? - 09/27/09 01:41 PM

What do your signs say about you?Janice and I have all of the listings for the 2009 Clark County Parade of Homes and we wanted to do something different with our signage. With 12 signs in close proximity, we wanted something that was a little more upscale and would set us apart from the other 2000 real estate agents in Clark County. We decided on this estate style frame and posts that holds our sign horizontally. All of the materials are readily available at any place that carries vinyl fencing supplies. They were quick and easy to make and really bring … (7 comments)

marketing: Which Of These Homes Would You Choose? - 05/12/09 05:19 PM
Which Of These Homes Would You Choose?
This has turned into a very interesting experiment. I listed both of these homes at the same time. They are on the same street in Washougal Washington. They are just one door apart. (There is one house that sits between them.) They have similar floor plans and have the same square footage. They both have the same panoramic view of the Columbia River between Washington and Oregon. Originally, they were both listed at the same price. Both have been advertised using the same vehicles. One has received considerably more attention than the other. Can you … (11 comments)

marketing: To Picture or Not To Picture? That is the Question! - 04/14/09 08:43 PM

To Picture or Not To Picture? That is the Question!
Lately, I have noticed more and more real estate agents in Vancouver Washington handing out business cards that don't have their picture on them. I am wondering what has spurred this latest trend. My business background is with the first company on a large scale to ever use pictures on business cards. Eastman Kodak. At the time it was kind of a novelty because we were the only ones doing it. It was nice because I could walk into most any account and everyone there immediately knew who I was. Of … (18 comments)

How do you cram first time homebuyers, experienced investors, custom homebuilders, Eco-Friendly lifestyles, listings, buyers, and contract negotiation into a succinct speech of half a minute or so? Should you even try?I don't think so.Here are my elevator speeches for 3 for the most common questions that I get asked. What business are you in?

marketing: What Image Are You Portraying? - 03/23/09 03:09 PM
Now that Janice and I have been back from Family Reunion in Orlando Florida for a few weeks, I am finally getting around to adding all of the great friends who I met into my data base. Although it is a huge amount of work, it is also kind of fun to think back about meeting these folks a few weeks back.I have, however noticed something odd about some of these business cards. Not all of the agents have their address on their cards. About 5% of them have no address and no reference to what city or state in which … (7 comments)

marketing: Is Your Attitude Sabotaging Your Success? - 03/18/09 12:21 AM
I used this photo a while back in a blog that I wrote about spending too much time on your computer and not enough time meeting people. As I was reading some of my back blogs, I saw it and it brought forward a completely new idea. In the previous blog the picture represented the great outdoors. But this time it conjured up something else. Look at it closely.
Are the dark clouds gathering or are they parting?
Now let's apply this question to you and your business.  Is the market getting worse or is it getting better? How do you … (5 comments)

Hello All!
I have been getting a number of messages asking what Janice and I do during our time off.
This has been a crazy summer. We decided to go to China for the Olympics. Well, one thing turned to another and it got a little out of control. Here are a few pics from my album:

marketing: For My Green Friends on ActiveRain! - 08/05/08 12:11 AM
This isn't directly real estate related but I ran across a clever advertisement in TransWorld Surf magazine the other day and I thought I would share with you, my green friends. It goes like this:
FREE GAS FOR LIFE!With the absurd cost of gas these days, it seems like this summer, you might be stuck at home.   ...LOST has stepped up so that you can come out to the U.S. Open of Surfing... We'll have our competing surfers giving out $100 gas cards and 10 lucky grand prize winners will receive FREE GAS FOR LIFE! (A Bicycle)

marketing: A quick and Easy Marketing Tip from Vancouver Washington - 08/04/08 08:29 PM
Here is a quick idea to get more traffic to your open houses and to help you track the folks who actually show up.Send invitations out to the surrounding neighborhoods a few days before the open house. (or in this case a grand opening for Ashley Manor, a new neighborhood of custom homes here in Vancouver Washington) On the front of the card add a flash to let neighbors know that they can bring the postcard with them to use as an entry into a drawing or raffle. Their name and address is already on the address side of the card … (9 comments)

marketing: The World’s Cheapest Marketing - 07/23/08 07:17 PM
When I was a kid, maybe 9 or 10 years old, there was an old timer in my neighborhood who would wave at everyone he passed on the street. I remember it as if it were yesterday; a powder blue late model Dodge, stock hubcaps, and the driver's window always rolled down. If he was passing a group of us kids he always flashed us the, ever so cool, "peace sign." We would always laugh and we would always wave back. I remember seeing him year after year until I grew to be an adult and finally moved away. One day … (14 comments)

marketing: Active Rain? Outside Blog? My personal blog? Need SEO HELP - 07/21/08 10:38 AM
I have a question for you all regarding the use of an Active Rain blog, an outside blog, and a personal blog. I have all three.
What is your opinion on SEO strategies for this type of situation? My Active Rain account has climbed through the google ranks fairly quickly for my key words. My AR outside blog is fairly new, maybe a week or so, but hasn't made it into the first 30 pages. My personal blog, which I use to give my website the google juice, has been moving up in the rank.
I can't help but think that … (2 comments)
