Recent good news reported here about the thriving Canadian auto industry is threatened by bad news from Detroit: the US auto is in such bad shape that the big three automakers are lobbying for a $25 billion low interest loan from the government. Without aid, predicts the Center for Automotive Research in Ann Arbor, MI, the US economy would lose over 2.5 million direct and indirect jobs plus $100-150 billion in taxes. The Ambassador Bridge connects Windsor, Ontario and Detroit, Michigan. It spans the Detroit River and, at 1.75 miles long, was the largest suspension bridge in the world when it was completed in 1929. Today it is the busiest international crossing in North America, with more than 25% of all USA and Canada merchandise trade crossing the bridge each year.

Willistead Manor is a 36-room mansion located in a 15-acre park in Windsor. It was built in 1904 by Edward Chandler Walker, the second son of Hiram Walker, the founder of the world-famous Canadian Club Distillery. It is named for the builder's older brother, Willis Walker. detroit: Fabulous Fireworks Display - 06/20/08 05:49 PM
Every summer Windsor and Detroit co-host a gigantic fireworks display celebrating Canada Day and the American Independence Day. This year the fireworks will be held on Wednesday, June 23. Over one million spectators will gather on both sides of the river to watch the awesome display. There will be over 10,000 fireworks shot off over the Detroit River during the 30-minute show.
