As we roll on into the 2^nd quarter of 2010 we are starting to see that we are not as bad off as the rest of country is experiencing. Almost sheltered from economic slumps. In one of my last blogs

Bridgewater Nova Scotia on the rise, making its Mark in the world
it does seem that Lunenburg co. might hold its own.

I made reference that "Bridgewater NS, we have always been in a recession as many will say! We haven't seen the huge influx in housing prices like out west and Ontario; we have always seen a steady climb, slow increases with minimal ups and downs."

In the attached market materials compliments of Fiona Steele at HLC, you can see that the positives for 2009 were housing starts are up over 52% from 2008 and the home resale market is up almost 50% (in units not $) over 2008 however the average sale price has dropped 15%. These are pretty good statistics for all the negativity that seems to generate from the public.

Despite overall employment and slight decline in labor force in NS, New construction and MLS sales continue to grow while average sale price seemed to fall.

It is that time of year when everyone is starting to get "Cabin Fever"... you know the good kind.

Well with the Nova Scotia weather we have had as of lately cabin fever might not be a good thing, either way I have your solution.

It's always a topic of conversation.... you know, that nasty word recession..

It's funny, here in Bridgewater NS, we have always been in a recession as many will say! We haven't seen the huge influx in housing prices like out west and Ontario, we have always seen a steady climb, slow increases with minimal ups and downs.

We don't have the huge booms in job increases like the oil fields saw out in Alberta, in fact, as of late had several families making the move from the West Coast to Nova Scotia for a slower pace of life. Many of these families have never even been to the area for longer than a vacation or even grew up in Bridgewater. With the prospect of owning larger parcels of land, setting up farms, renovating houses and giving there children something more these are what has inspired many to make the move.

Here in this growing town on the South Shore of Nova Scotia, we are seeing several new "BOX" Stores arriving yearly, the rise of a "NEW" hotel, the development of family inspired subdivisions with more and more urban influences and the prospect of a "New" community lifestyle center.
