corsicana: Cause for Paws - 11/28/10 03:55 PM

New shelter for furry residents! Corsicana is getting a brand new, larger and much needed animal shelter. Corsicana held a Cause for Paws 'Barn Raising' event. The festivities to raise money included face painting, pet photogrophy, demonstrations by K-9 click "pupils" and Star the wonder dog. It was a fun-filled day with various events scheduled througout. Thanks to all in the community that sponsored and supported the event, Corsicana is a step closer in acquiring the new facility.

corsicana: CHS Cheer Claims Top Spot - 11/28/10 03:43 PM

The Corsicana High School Cheer Squad won the Large Varsity Intermediate Division at the United Cheer Open Championship held November 21, 2010 at Navarro College. The squad will compete in United Cheer's North Texas State Championship on January 15, 2011 in Garland, and will attend the National competiion in Galveston in February.
Great job Cheer Squad! Congratulations and Good Luck in the upcoming events. Corsicana Texas is cheering for you!

The Pearce Civil War Museumand Archives features first-hand accounts of the American Civil War. Organized around the time-line, the museum exhibits letters, diaries, journals, images, and artifacts from the era. The Pearce Collection consists of more than 14,000 original Cival War letters, documents and artifacts. This wonderful collection is located on the Navarro College Campus at 3100 W. Collin Avenue in Corsicana, TX.

Collin Street Bakery is the home of the World Famous Deluxe Fruitcake and is located in Corsicana, TX at 401 West 7th Avenue. Locally, they are famous for a lot more! They have fresh baked breads, pastries, muffins, cookies, gifts and beautifully decorated made to order cakes for all occasions. Collin Street Bakery was founded in 1896 and have been in operation as a family-owned business since. The original location (still in operation) is located in historic, downtown Corsicana.

Bunert Park is located at 201 Bunert Park Road in Corsicana, TX just off of East Highway 31. This 16.5 acre park was obtained in 1958 with the help of Mr. Albert Bunert, Sr., later inheriting the Bunert name. It is a community park for all to enjoy the swimming pool, softball field, basketball courts, picnic pavilion, playground system and jogging trail. It is a beautiful park with large oak shade trees. Many community and memorial events are hosted here throughout the year as well as a baseball practice field for the local little leagues.

The Pocket Park is located at 118 North Beaton Street in Downtown Corsicana. The park is nestled between two buildings and was selected by the Arts in Public Places Committee as its first project to become a pocket park. The park's area is approximately 3000 square feet where locals and tourist can discover a pretty place to sit, visit or have lunch.
Occasionally, you may hear a band playing or smell food cooking for various sponsored events held at the Pocket Park. The cascading water fountain, landscape and bricked stage area also make for a lovely photo shoot location.

Corsicana Main Street Project has many available incentives to encourage investors and business owners to invest in the Corsicana Downtown area. Incentives can be used for restoration, renovation, rehabilitation and preservation of commercial buildings. All incentives are subject to design approval by the Main Street Design Committee. Interested parties can take advantage of possible loan programs, discounted materials from participating vendors, small grants, free architectural and engineering design assistance, tax abatement and property tax freeze.

Corsicana is blessed with a rich and diverse heritage that extends back for centuries. The first inhabitants in the area were the Kichai, Jscani, Techuacans and Wacos Native American Tribes. Groups of Comanches and Kiowas would sometimes travel from the plains through the region as well.
The town of Corsicana was founded in 1848 to serve as the county seat of the recently established Navarro County. Navarro County was named after the Texas Revolution hero, Jose Antonio Navarro.
