the woodlands: Its Not a Buyer's Market Now!! - 02/25/12 01:31 PM
As a certified Relocation Agent, I work with lots of people being transferred to The Woodlands from other areas of the country.  The most common question I hear from these buyers is, "How low should I offer? After all its a buyers market."  First of all, The Woodlands didn't have much of a dip in the market price.  It had a slow down, but not a real dip in price. The homes most affected were the ones purchased during the high of 2007.  Those homes are not selling for much more than they were purchased. But for the most part people … (2 comments)

the woodlands: Three Cheers for Operation Pets Alive - 01/13/11 03:12 PM
So often reading or watching the new is just down right depressing. But, today I read an article in the local Villager that made me smile.
Operation Pets Alive, a nonprofit organization based in The Woodlands organized a "rescue flight" for 22 dogs from the Montgomery County Animal Shelter to New Hampshire to find new homes.  According to the article, most of the dogs had been at the shelter since November and where unlikely to find homes anytime soon.
By making this trip the dogs will avoid being euthanized.
This was Operation Pets Alive their first trip. Travel cost is expense about $100 per … (2 comments)

the woodlands: Important After Ike Information!!! - 09/27/08 10:10 PM
I just wanted to share with everyone who has closing in the Ike affected areas that you need to warn your clients of possible problems with getting utilities turned on at closing.  The utility companies are telling people that they are not turning on or transferring utilities until at least October 6th.
The utility companies have pulled their employees from that area of business to the task of restoring electricity.  My buying clients have made arrangements with the sellers to pay the sellers to maintain the utilities.
If you have come across any issues, please share in the comments section.

the woodlands: Double Up Your Volunteerism!! - 09/24/08 10:19 AM
Have You Ever Tried to Multi-task Your Volunteerism?
Recently, I wrote a post called How do you Decide Where to Volunteer? There are so many worthy causes and I was overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of you who wrote lengthy comments to share your volunteerism. It made me proud to be associated to you by profession and ActiveRain.
As we all know, volunteering has its cost. We only have 24 hours in a day. Those hours must be carefully divided between family, business, sleep, and everything else.  So we learn to multi-task.
I multi-task as much as possible to get everything … (15 comments)

the woodlands: Help! I Need a Home!! - 09/20/08 05:54 PM

WORK WANTED! WILL WORK FOR FOOD, SHELTER AND LOVE!
HI, MY NAME IS POOKIE (WELL, THAT IS WHAT THEY CALLED ME AT THE SHELTER) MY FOSTER FAMILY PICKED ME UP FROM THE SHELTER AFTER HURRICANE IKE. THE SHELTER HAD NO WATER OR ELECTRICITY AND THEY NEEDED TO MAKE ROOM FOR THE OTHER 123 DOGS THAT WERE MISPLACED BY THE STORM.
MY FOSTER FAMILY THINKS I SHOULD BE NAMED "SCRAPPY" AFTER THE PUPPY FROM SCOOBY DOO AS MY PERSONALITY REMINDS THEM OF THAT DOG.

I'M HAVING A GREAT TIME WHILE WAITING FOR MY FOREVER HOME, BUT MY FOSTER FAMILY ALREADY … (10 comments)

the woodlands: Reasons To List Your Home in the Fall or Winter - 09/18/08 04:42 PM
Everyone thinks late Spring and Summer are the best time to list a home for sell. However, I have found the fall and winter to be a great time to list a home.
1. Less Competition  Other sellers have taken their house off the market leaving less competition for you.
2. Winter Relocation Winter break is a popular time for companies to relocate employees.
3. Well Dressed Home  Homes are often decorated for the fall and winter holidays giving your home a warm and fuzzy feeling
4. Kids Are At School  Its easier to keep your house clean for showing when the … (2 comments)

the woodlands: Thanks George Mitchell - 09/17/08 04:51 PM
Everyone who lives in The Woodlands should thank George Mitchell. He is the mastermind behind this master-planned community. The Woodlands was born on the back of a napkin on evening when George Mitchell sketched his idea of an ideal community. And, ideal it is.
George, the child of a poor Greek immigrant, grew up in Galveston and studied at Texas A&M. He made the bulk of his fortune in petroleum with is company Mitchell Energy, but he has said that of all the things he has done in his life, The Woodlands is his the accomplishment that gives him the most pride.

the woodlands: I Feel Like a Bull's Eye Waiting for Ike! - 09/12/08 01:03 PM
Well here I am waiting for Hurricane Ike.
The pantry is full, the gas tanks are full, and all the outdoor stuff has been moved in. Ironically, the sky is blue and beautiful, any other day the kids would be a school and everyone else would be going about their normal day.  Instead, here we are 90 miles in from Galveston Island and The Woodlands is not much more than a ghost town.  We are not anywhere near the evacuation area. Like almost eveyone in The Woodlands, we are sheltering in place.
All the birds left two days ago.  The feeder is … (20 comments)

the woodlands: Teddy Bear Park - 09/05/08 03:28 PM
Teddy Bear Park
(how cute is that)

Nestled in the mature trees of Oakridge North is a quaint little park that is reminiscent of a more simple time.

The Victorian park lights and wooden park benches offer a place for the young and old to reconnect with each other or with themselves.

The large play structure offers more than enough variety to entertain the young or young at heart for hours giving parents a little reprieve.
The park is completely surrounded by wrought iron fences giving parents a sense of safety. No worries about balls being chased into … (0 comments)

the woodlands: Oak Ridge North--Montgomery County best kept secret - 09/01/08 07:02 PM

Oak Ridge North is a little city located on the east side of I-45 directly across the interstate from The Woodlands.  Its earliest homes date back to the mid 1960's.  The neighborhood with its mature trees and over-sized lots reminds me of the neighborhoods of Memorial before they started tearing the homes down to build micro-mansions.
This past year I have had the pleasure of listing several homes in Oak Ridge North and I was impressed by friendly, helpful neighbors.  Another item of interest about that neighborhood is that when I listed one of the larger homes in the area, … (0 comments)

the woodlands: School is Back in Session - 09/01/08 06:41 PM
On Monday, August 25th, I heard an audible sigh of relief and a few whoops in The Woodlands when the last school bus pulled out of the neighborhood.
Summer is like a having a house guest for a week or more.  You are happy to see it come and you are happy to see it go!
For our family this school year was one of firsts.  My daughter started her first day of intermediate school and bus riding and my son start his first day of high school.
For the many children whose families I help locate new homes in their new … (0 comments)

the woodlands: Everyone Needs ID - 07/10/08 05:07 PM
Have you ever been lost in a foreign country, you didn't know the language and you had no way of communicating?  Can you imagine how scared you would be?  To make matters worse, your doctor had drugged you so you remain calm during the flight to this new and foreign world?
Well, it happen.  Very late into the night of July 3rd. We found a female walking around our neighborhood. She was dazed from the drugs, hungry, didn't speak the language and had no identification.  She was utterly lost and confused.  True, she was a Golden Retreiver, but that didn't make her … (2 comments)
