Get your flag ready for 09/11/2007 - 08/31/07 11:36 PM
It's unbelievable it's September 1st already...as I sat here this evening and went over my goals and business plan that I had set up for August, I could not believe that the month had come to an end already!  I try to do this every month, on the last day of the month, and I also set up my plan and goals for the next month.  I was thinking I only had to do this three more months and then I would be planning for the new year!
One day of importance to us every September is 9/11...how could we ever forget!  Let us not forget...I received … (8 comments)

Why should you hire a Realtor to sell your House? - 08/31/07 09:09 PM
This was sent to me by one of my lenders this week.  I've attended many of his classes and seminars and they are always very informative.  He writes from his own perspective and gives some wonderful advice.  I trust you will find it helpful and informative in your decision as to whether using a Realtor is the right decision.
Why should you hire a Realtor to sell your House?
This question is posed to me when I do public speaking, when I talk to clients & when I meet people at a restaurant.  The question I always ask them is "Why do you think … (8 comments)

My Favorite Things....What are Yours? - 08/27/07 10:42 PM
I love the song that Julie Andrews sang in the Sound of Music:
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens                   Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens                      Brown paper packages tied up with string,                        These are a few of my favorite things.
I received this via e-mail today saying that Julie Andrews sang it at Radio City Music Hall in NY on her 69th birthday a few years ago.   In doing some research I find that Ms. Andrews did not sing this after all.  But I still thought it was worth sharing here for all us ‘oldsters' and even for the … (2 comments)

Las Vegas, NV: Indain Wells Update - 08/25/07 01:20 AM
Nestled in the Northwest on the outskirts of Summerlin is the beautiful 144 unit condominium complex of Indian Wells. Ten 1 and 2 bedroom condos are currently for sale in the complex.  The prices are reasonable for first time home buyers or retirees.  They are also at a reasonable enough price that an investor would probably see a positive cash flow. There is currently one condo currently in escrow and three have closed in the last 8 monthss.  Prices range from $125,000 for a 2 bedroom/2 bath, 821 square foot unit to $204,999 for the highest priced 1108 square foot unit.  The average price on the … (0 comments)

Sugar Bowl Scottsdale AZ - The Real Scoop - 08/23/07 10:37 PM
Chris Griffith put out a challenge a week or so ago asking those interested to enter in the Carnival of Ice Cream - The Real Scoop...being a connoisseur of good ice cream I could not resist saying a resounding YES!  I've been hemming and hawing all week trying to decide which is my favorite ice cream shop.  It's a HARD decision and I could not limit it down to one.  So I will blog on several:
My VERY favorite of all Ice Cream Shops is Sugar Bowl Ice Cream Parlor on 5th Avenue and Scottsdale Road in Downtown Scottsdale...The Sugar Bowl has been around since … (13 comments)

Salmon - Near Perfect - 08/20/07 09:52 PM
Salmon is both yummy and good for you...it's the near perfect food.  It's low in calories, low in saturated fats, and high in protein.  It's great for fighting cholestrol.  We love most fish...except my husband hates to deal with the bones sometimes found in fish...salmon fillets are bone free.  We have salmon about once a week and this is one of my favorite recipes (when my oven is working!)
Salmon and Avocado with Salsa:
4 six-ounce fillets of salmon (fresh is better)1/2 cup of chicken brothLemon Butter (to taste)Bake for 30-40 minutes @ 375 degrees (until fish flakes with a fork)
Salsa:
1/4 cup Virgin Olive … (14 comments)

A Test for Old Kids - 08/18/07 03:43 PM
I've got a birthday coming up within a month that I'd like to forget!  Every year around this time I'm reminded of the good ol' days...my memories are sketchy of childhood but pretty good from about 14-15 on up (although it's going again the older I get!).  Anyway...writing about the Good Humor Truck on my blog the other day  Ice Cream: Sneaky, Sneaky! started me in on memories again!  And then this came in my e-mail...I couldn't resist sharing it with you all.   I will post the answers as a comment later today.   I'm sure there are some who can answer all...I got all but … (5 comments)

Ice Cream: Sneaky, Sneaky! - 08/17/07 11:18 AM
As kids we all use to 'chant'....'Ice Cream, Ice Cream, we all yell for Ice Cream'....we use to be able to go to the corner drug store and buy an ice cream cone (1 scoop) for a nickle and a double scoop for 10cents!
Then there was the 'Good Humor' truck....are those even still around?  For those too young to remember these were trucks LOADED with ice cream in all different assortments and sizes.  What fun to listen for the music and stop whatever we were doing to get to the curb before the truck went past.  The man would jump out of … (7 comments)

Cheap Advertising - 08/13/07 06:36 PM
Advertising wherever you go is the way to go.  We do so much driving that it's nice to use your vehicle for a billboard.  In the past I've used magnetic signs with my companies name, my name, phone on them.  But I have these get lost a lot....from driving the freeways/expressways at higher speeds and having the wind blow them off, to parking in an area that's 'less than desireable' where they get stolen, or just from having them lose their 'magnet-ism' after a year or two.  It has never happened to me but I've heard Realtors say they've received 'whacko' phone … (11 comments)

Las Vegas, NV: Star Trek Convention - 08/11/07 01:05 AM
While out and about today I happened to be at the north end of the 'strip' and saw some mighty 'weird characters' wandering aroud.  Now mind you I've seen some pretty 'weird' people on the strip...from Elvis impersonators on up.  But I could not help but wonder why so many....then I noticed that the "OFFICIAL STAR TREK 2007" convention was being held at the  Hilton Hotel!   It was fun to just drive and see all the "Trekies' wandering around.
The convention is being held at the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel at 3000 Paradise Road, home of Star Trek: The Experience!  The convention runs … (9 comments)

Las Vegas, NV: What is Happening with the Mortgage Business? - 08/10/07 10:40 AM

Clients are calling asking what is happening with the Mortgage business & how will it affect
my home value?   Here is a brief outline of what is happening:
We are in an unprecedented mortgage market equivalent to a category 5 hurricane if it were a storm.  For those that are "pre-approved" with a Lender, the loan program they are "pre-approved" on may no longer be available an hour later.  Many programs that were available two weeks ago are gone today, second mortgages are extremely hard to find, "Stated Income" loans are being priced so high it does not make sense, … (4 comments)

Tried Honey and Cinamon as a Cure-all? - 08/09/07 11:59 PM
These are some of the diseases that can be helped by taking a mixture of honey and cinnamon.  I encourage you to seek the advice of your doctor before taking any or all of these remedies as gospel!  I don't know if all these remedies are correct but they are sure worth a try!  And I'm game for giving most anything that sounds reasonable a try:
Did you know that HONEY is the only food that does not spoil?  It has been found that a mixture of honey and cinnamon cures most of diseases. Honey is produced in most of the countries of the … (12 comments)

Las Vegas NV: Angel Point Update - 08/09/07 12:49 AM
Angel Point, like the rest of Las Vegas,  has come to a virtual standstill, although it is starting a 'slow crawl' back.  There are currently 9 condos available and 9 have closed since the first of the year.  There is one LARGER unit (1188 square feet) to $184,900 and 8 SMALLER units (1016 square feet) ranging in price from $169,500 to $199,999.   Yes, those figures are correct.  Why such a difference in price?
For new loan purposes the appraiser  takes into account what has closed in the last 6 months, and with todays changing market many resist going back that far and try to limit to … (0 comments)

Sage Words on Aging...... - 08/04/07 10:21 PM
I received this via e-mail today...I thought it very appropriate after a full week of working:
"I've sure gotten old! I've had two bypass surgeries, a hip replacement, new knees, fought prostate cancer and diabetes. I'm half blind, can't hear anything quieter than a jet engine, take 40 different medicationsthat make me dizzy, winded, and subject to blackouts. Have bouts with dementia. Have poor circulation; hardly feel my hands and feet anymore. Can't remember if I'm 85 or 92. Have lost all my friends. But, thank God, I still have my driver's license."
It's kind of scary though...over and over again you hear … (7 comments)

Open Houses Revisited - 08/04/07 09:56 PM
This is my 3rd blog this week on open houses...Open Houses: Make Them What You Want   and  Open Houses - To Do or Not To Do.  I promise this will be my last word on the subject (for the time being).
I currently have my home for sale...so I decided on spur of the moment to hold it 'open' all day...I started at 10 a.m. and ended about 3 p.m. and had a total of 16 people come though...only one was with a Realtor.  I received many contacts from this...a couple commented that 'it's hard to find open houses anymore'...this tells me no … (11 comments)

Las Vegas NV: Indian Wells Update - 08/03/07 12:46 AM
Indian Wells, like the rest of Las Vegas, has slowed down.  There are currently over 23,000 active listings in Las Vegas.  That's A LOT of competition!
There are currently 8 condos available in Indian Wells, 2 have been withdrawn from the market (by the owner) in the last month. Several have reduced the price...hopefully this will get some activity on them and help get them sold.  Three have closed in the last 7 months. All have been listed for 2 to 9 months.  Why do you think the price range on these is so WIDE ($169,900 to $224,000 for an identical unit)?
For loan purposes the appraiser is going … (1 comments)
