A White Christmas Not Far From Vegas! - 12/26/07 01:24 AM
Our Christmas' used to be wild and fun...with wrappings everywhere, new toys to play with, family to visit, tons of baking and preparation to do but as the years have gone by things change....Our kids are grown and live out of state, hubby works retail and, of course, Christmas Eve day is one of the biggest retail days of the year so he had to work thus there was no seeing our kids this Christmas.
Now Christmas is quiet.  It's lonely without the 'children' but we usually have Thanksgiving all together, so it's ok (this year we gave them a 'special dispensation' from Thanksgiving because … (8 comments)

Cell Phones for Soldiers - 12/25/07 01:48 AM
Get a new cell phone for Christmas?  Or maybe wanted ona and Santa forgot to leave you one, so you are planning on purchasing one soon?  Check out this website, it's a great place to recycle your old phone for FREE and every phone that is donated will help increase the amount of talk time provided to our troops.
The phones are sent to ReCellular, which pays Cell Phones for Soldiers for each donated phone - enough to provide an hour of talk time to soldiers abroad.  The money for each donated phone is then used to purchase phone cards to … (8 comments)

A Politically Correct Christmas Greeting - 12/24/07 06:15 PM
A Politically Correct Christmas Greeting
Best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, gender neutral, winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most joyous traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, but with respect for the religious persuasion of others who choose to practice their own religion as well as those who choose not to practice a religion at all; Additionally,a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling, and medically uncomplicated recognition of the generally accepted calendar year 2007, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions have helped make our society great, without regard … (6 comments)

NV, Las Vegas: Braewood Heritage Update - 12/22/07 10:14 PM
While driving the streets of Braewood Heritagethe other evening  I noticed many homes that were decorated for the holidays.  I pulled my trusty little camera out of my purse and snapped pictures of some of these awesome displays.  One thing I noted in my driving the complex was that decorations seemed to be nested together....there'd be a block of homes with none, another block would be lit up brightly.  I live on Southridge...there are no more than a half dozen homes with decorations but yet I'd drive to other areas of the complex and there would be house after house of decorated … (5 comments)

A Not So Usual Fruitcake - 12/20/07 10:14 PM
I'm not a big fruitcake lover...in fact fruitcake is at the top of my 'foods I don't like list'.  But the other day I went to a potluck and this little old lady in line next to me said 'oh, nobody has even tried my fruitcake'...so being the nice person I try to be I told her...'well, they were all saving it for me...I love fruitcake' and proceeded to take a piece.  This fruitcake was different...it was actually good.  I told her how good it was and in today's mail I received a Christmas card with the recipe inside...I decided I would share the … (7 comments)

Motivation: Don't Sweat the Small Stuff - 12/12/07 11:52 PM
Given the craziness that we as real estate professionals have in our day to day lives,  I thought this great analogy was worth sharing --
The Mayonnaise Jar and 2 Cups Of Coffee
When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 Hours in a day is not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and 2 cups of coffee.
A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him.  When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls.
He then asked the students if the … (12 comments)

NV, LAS VEGAS: CEASAR'S PALACE UPS THE ANTE! - 12/11/07 10:05 AM

Have some extra money laying around you don't know what to do with?  Maybe an extra $50,000+ you'd be willing to take a chance on doubling, or losing?  Now is your chance!  Caesars Palace Las Vegas  is out to get its fair share of high rollers!  The casino has raised its limits on blackjack and craps to fifty thousand dollars per hand...the highest amount of any Las Vegas casino.
Caesars officials say the new limits will give the 41-year-old property an edge over newer high-end Strip resorts that have been taking a larger share of the high roller market, including Bellagio, Wynn Las … (5 comments)

The Value of Dual Pane Windows - 12/10/07 01:10 AM
Energy-efficient is the name of the game today...not only is it needed to keep our fuel costs down but also to help prevent 'global warming'.  Dual pane windows is one way to help.  On the whole newer homes are built with dual pane windows but if you have an 'older' home without them you might want to consider having them replaced.  When it comes time to sell, buyers are more apt to purchase a home with this valuable upgrade.
Windows, one of the most attractive elements of your home, can also be one of the biggest energy wasters.  Nearly 50% of … (12 comments)

God's Handiwork At Its Best - 12/08/07 11:49 PM
Every time I read Charles McDonald's blog  on Active Rain I get a little envious.  I've never lived in a place where the seasons changed.  California, Arizona, and Nevada have one season and its year round.  Seeing pictures of the seasons colors in other parts of the country is so awesome,
Today while out I decided to look for seasonal changes in the areas I was driving...low and behold I did not need to drive far to see fall colors...they were right in my own backyard practically, here in Braewood Heritage.  What an awesome sight it was at that!  It was truly God's handiwork … (8 comments)

NV, Las Vegas: Low-Down on the ARM Interest Rate Freeze - 12/07/07 05:10 PM
Everyone is talking about the government helping with an "Adjustable Rate Mortgage interest rate freeze" that was announced yesterday (12-6-07).  Here is a brief description of what the real deal is:
Only covers ARM loans that were closed from 01/01/05 through 06/31/07.      Only applies to loans that are not held by banks. (this means you will need to call your loan servicer to  find out).      Does not affect loans that have already had their first rate reset.      Does not cover any loan that is "seriously delinquent".      Does not cover any borrowers that had good credit when the loan was issued.      … (2 comments)

NV, Las Vegas: A Community Bands Together - 12/04/07 11:34 PM
Last week a 30 year old ironworker died after falling 50-feet to the ground while attached to a steel beam at the Cosmopolitan hotel and condo project on the Strip.   A memorial service was held for him on Sunday at a local mortuary.  During the service a gentleman that no one recognized came forward and said some kind words about the deceased and then proceeded to walk off with the monies that had been donated by co-workers and friends!  Several thousand dollars had been donated and was supposed to be used to help the ironworker's widow cover funeral expenses and to ship the body to Texas for burial.  … (7 comments)

NV, Las Vegas: The Gift of Lights (Follow-Up) - 12/02/07 06:46 PM
A couple of weeks ago I wrote a post the Gift of Lights. an awesome tradition held yearly in Las Vegas.  I am blogging about it again, and sharing some pictures I took when we visited the event this year.  It's reasonably priced at $13 per car ($2.00 with a donation of something for Goodwill)...and is a great family event.  It's obvious that lots of time and resources went into this event.
My one disappointment was that nothing was mentioned about Christmas.  It was a 'Holiday' event....which is fine as long as other culture/religious holidays are not mentioned.  But the lights covered most of … (10 comments)

NV, LAS VEGAS: ANGEL POINT UPDATE - 12/02/07 05:26 PM
Angel Point is a charming little condo complex on the north west side of Las Vegas....centrally located to everything it's a quick 'shot' down the I-95 to downtown Las Vegas and the Strip.  If one wants to stay away from the Las Vegas Strip...that's easy to do as golf courses abound, the Boca Park Shopping Center is just around the corner offering stores like the Pottery Barn, William Sonoma, Joseph Banks;  Great eating close by....like P.F. Changs, The Melting Pot, and Cheesecake Factory just to name a few!; The Suncoast and Rampart casinos are nearby with lots of opportunity to eat, gamble, relax with a massage, … (1 comments)
