NV, Las Vegas: Everlyse Cabrera - 04/30/08 09:54 PM
On June 10, 2006 two-year-old Everlyse Cabrera disappeared from the home of her foster parents in North Las Vegas.  Although the case drew nationwide coverage by the news media and was aired on America's Most Wanted nary a sign of her had been found until today, April 30, 2008.  At the top of the 6pm news tonight it was announced that Everlyse may have been found in Green Bay WI during a drug bust.
Her foster parents did not cooperate with police saying that all they knew is the child climbed on a stool, unlocked a deadbolt and left the house.  The … (6 comments)

Baskin Robbins is honoring America's Firefighters by selling ice cream for $.31 cents per scoop on Wednesday, April 30th between 5 and 10 pm. Grab your friends, and/or the kids and grand kids and have a cool one! NV, Las Vegas: Check Out What's Happening with the R.E. Maket - 04/29/08 01:05 AM
Total inventory is WAY down over November 2007 by almost 5,000 listings!  Closings are climbing as the market in Vegas starts a turn around.  Check the number of closings since April 1, 2008 compared to the month of December 2007!  According to these stats things are looking positive!
Short Sales and Foreclosures still abound...but when checking the MLS things are a lot more positive than I had thought.  Only a little over 50% of homes for sale are in some form of repossession.
As the sun shines down on Las Vegas and the days warm up there is certainly no better time for … (4 comments)

Personalized License Plates and Christianity - 04/25/08 09:41 AM
Vehicle owners in most states have a wide variety of specialty  license plates to choose from...Nevada has MANY to choose from.....University plates, firefighter plates, animal appreciation, missing and exploited children as well as dozens of others.  Nevada still does not have plates for REALTOR® although I know that the REALTOR® organization has tried to get them.  Does your state have REALTOR® license plates?
The Florida Legislature is considering a specialty license plates with a design that includes a Christian cross, a stained-glass window and the words 'I Believe'."  Click here for the full story.  Of course, there will be the usual … (4 comments)

Homelessness and Foreclosures - 04/24/08 12:11 AM
Las Vegas is known to have one of the largest populations of homeless in the U.S. How this is determined is beyond me but I understand there are 'census counters' for just the homeless.  The homeless seem to be increasing as the rate of foreclosures go up.  With more than 55% of Las Vegas MLS listings in some sort of foreclosure it was bound to happen.  So sad. I have never been personally affected but I did use to volunteer at our church's food pantry and hand out bags of food to some of the down and out.
This past week … (1 comments)

And the Moral of the Story Is............ - 04/19/08 11:09 PM
Earlier this week as I drove home in the middle of the afternoon I could hear the sounds of fire engines, of ambulances, of police cars....I could see smoke rising in the sky and I wondered where it came from and said a little prayer for those involved.  As I turned onto our street I could see those fire engines and other vehicles with flashing lights and they looked to be right in front of my house!  My first thought was of Melissa Grant and her devastating fire just before Christmas last year...then I prayed, then I thought of my babies … (36 comments)

Postage Rates - 04/13/08 05:00 PM
Effective May 12, 2008 the cost of a first class stamp will again go up - from 41¢ to 42¢ for a first class stamp.
First-Class mail, standard mail, periodicals, and package will be affected.  According to the U.S. Postal Service "the average increase by class of mail is at or below the rate of inflation as measured by the Consumer Price Index." I suggest that people purchase the Forever Stamps now and save themselves a few pennies in the future.  Forever Stamps are available at any U.S. Post Office and are good for life, even after a price change....you will … (18 comments)

NV, Las Vegas: FHA Loans - 04/11/08 11:59 PM
Words of Wisdom from one of my favorite lenders....(this was e-mailed to me on the 10th, date of posting is the 11th, so keep this in mind when reading references to 'yesterday' or 'today')
"In the spirit of keeping you educated...
I have been asked 4 times this week about Interest rates for FHA loans compared to Conventional loans & why Mark Baker charges an Origination Fee on FHA loans. With 4 people asking, that would mean that many of you are wondering the same thing. Without boring you, here is a brief explanation & some GFE examples, if you care to … (3 comments)

NV, Las Vegas: Verge Condominum Update - 04/10/08 12:39 AM
Just to update you...construction is anticipated to begin this fall and estimate the build out time to be approximately 18 months (anticipating closing escrow by the early part of 2009).  Verge began taking reservations back in March 2007 and converted those reservations to hard purchase contracts at their sales event on June 2, 2007, where over 200 homes were sold!  There are currently approximately 60 homes left for sale (out of 318 total) from studios to penthouses with prices ranging from $214,900 up to $2,119,900.   The Developer has extended the incentive of only having to put down a 5% earnest money deposit … (0 comments)

NV, Las Vegas: Recipe for Your Lawn - 04/06/08 11:00 AM
As we bask in the 80 degree weather of spring time, it's not too early to start  thinking about how the heat of summer is going to fry the valley's lawns.  Not only does the heat fry our lawns but the drought and water restrictions add to dead lawns through the summer, if they are not taken care of properly.  Get a jump start on 'babying' that lawn and making it look green.
The recipe for a drought stressed lawn is just common household ingredients.
If you want to give the recipe a try, here's what you'll need: One can … (9 comments)

Where Are the Chances? - 04/06/08 12:34 AM
On a fluke last week I had the opportunity to meet a couple...it was an unexpected, unplanned meeting.  These people did not know me from Adam and I did not know them from Eve.  But we immediately hit it off and were gabbing like we knew each other forever.  They mentioned they were from Indiana and I said 'oh my mother grew up in Indiana.'  The conversation went on and they asked what city to which I said 'it was/is a very small town named Goshen.'  Their faces about fell to the floor....this is where they are from!  They then told … (6 comments)

The Tax Man Cometh and The Scams That Come With Him/Her - 04/04/08 11:18 PM
Within the last couple of days I have received several e-mails like the one below.  If you are receiving something similar BE CAREFUL...#1 the IRS will NOT contact you via e-mail, and #2 NEVER give out the info that is requested in this e-mail to anyone!  By giving your  "Social Security Number, Credit/Debit Card Number, Expiration Date, CVV Code (located on the back of your credit/debit card) and ATM PIN Code" you are giving these people total access to your life and all your money.
Have you had your taxes yet? Maybe you do your taxes yourself and have not done them?  Don't put it off … (8 comments)
