things to do see: New to Viroqua a Redbox - 11/28/08 09:08 AM
Good Morning Viroqua... If you have not heard yet, a movie rental Kiosks has been newly installed in front of the Walgreen's on Main Street. To me this is very good news; as most of us were sad to see Box Office Video close its doors. They have been in Viroqua for more than 15 years. Once we had 3 rental places in town to choose from. Only last week it looked like the Village Market would be the last place in town to rent a DVD. So after the Thanksgiving day guests left, Trent and I went over to

things to do see: Naturally Amazing - 11/01/08 05:36 PM
Pillar rock formations, which are slender freestanding solid rock columns, are another one of nature's natural wonders. The notion of how they get formed is always an astonishment, was it wind, volcanic uplift, or was it by water erosion? Locally we have two really fascinating pillar rocks. There is very little that has ever been written about them. What I have been able to learn is that both are thought to have been mystic places to the earliest Native Americans who inhabited the area long before the Black Hawk wars. Monument Rock located approximately 4 miles south of Viroqua along highway

things to do see: Fall Frost and Autumn Color - 10/18/08 11:12 AM
Vernon County had its first real hard frost last night. Weather warnings issued yesterday advised that temperatures would dip well below freezing. This meant it was time to harvest your gardens or protect tender outdoor plants. From my back window, first thing this morning, my wild bird garden wasn't looking so welcoming. Beside an icy layer of frost covering the lawn, there was a low blanket of fog lessening the view. Within an hour the sun warmed it up a bit, then by 9:30 am you would not have known we had such

things to do see: Fall is just around the corner - 09/22/08 06:36 PM
Looking for a reason to get away for the weekend? Plan a visit to Vernon County and Viroqua Wisconsin... Yesterday was already the first day of fall, so where did the summer go? Many trees are just starting to lose their green leaves. The cooler nights and warm days are bringing out a splendid display of colorful orange, yellow and golden foliage. The Autumn Fall Colors are usually spectacular here and around the first week of October is usually the peak, right now it is about a 40% of peak. The leaves should remain for a while longer depending on the weather and how

A Great Place... That is what I think of living in Viroqua. Now even Mother Earth Newsthinks so too! Our town has made the third annual list of the "9 great place you never hard of." Some of the special things that make living in Viroqua interesting is our city is commitment to

things to do see: Round Barns of Vernon County - 05/10/08 03:48 PM
Vernon County Wisconsin is known for their many historical round barns. I took this photo of one barn located only 1 mile or so outside of Viroqua. If you are interested in a round barn road tour the link to the map will help, as you will find many more of the remaining round barns on the eastern side of Vernon County than the western side. It is believed that the reason round barns were built, is because it was more economical to build one, they used less lumber, and were also believed to be more efficient to run and maintain. Are you searching
