Is It A Good Time To Buy A House in Connecticut?? - 10/28/10 02:56 PM
This is a GREAT time to buy a house, and if you're wondering why, take a look at this recent post by my friend Melissa McKinney.  Prices in Hartford county, CT are very affordable right now, and so are interest rates.  And of course, when interest rates rise, you will lose borrowing power. On a $200,000 mortgage, at 4.00% your payment will be about $1292.00.  If interest rates rise just one percent to 5.00%, the same monthly payment of $1292.00 will only qualify you for about $180,000. mortgage. That means you've lost $20,000 in borrowing power, but that same property did NOT lose $20,000 in … (3 comments)

PRIORITY ONE: Business and Busy-ness - 10/24/10 04:15 PM
The Priority One series of blogs is a result of my choice to start my week on Active Rain on Sunday with a post about something from the Word of God or about the Christian walk.
This week I've been thinking about purpose, specifically life's purpose; and the myriad things that distract us from it. I recognize that right now, in addition to the particular family and church family that God has given me to work out my life's purpose--which above all things is to give Him glory for everything--He has also given me my business. This business is the setting in which God has placed me for … (12 comments)

Finding Magic for Real Estate Under the Kitchen Sink! - Blog About Anything Contest - 10/18/10 07:28 PM
Yes, I know I can blog about almost anything--but something from UNDER my sink?  And make it apply to the hyper-local level?  You've got to be kidding!
Well, thankfully, I've only got two under-sink cabinets to check out, so it shouldn't take too long to find something.  Did I really say that? I opened the bathroom vanity cabinet, and was amazed at the amount of products two teenage girls could accumumlate in one place! Even so, not much of interest as far as blogging material goes. I guess I'll have to check out the kitchen under-sink cabinet. I'm sure it's not … (17 comments)

Priority One: Receiving Freely! - 10/17/10 03:23 AM
Welcome to my Priority One blog series. I am choosing to start my week on Active Rain on Sunday with a post about something from the Word of God or the Christian walkthat has been encouragement to me.
I just read an Active Rain post by Judi Barrett about Graciously receiving. Judi spoke about how we often make a joke or negative or self-deprecating comment when someone pays us a compliment, or wants to give us a gift. Judy reminds us to just say, "Thank You". It hit a chord with me because I have recently been in a position to receive … (9 comments)

Those Were The Days...Real Estate Then and Now...A Look at 1985! - 10/15/10 06:16 PM
I can only imagine the day to day of real estate 25 years before I got into the business. So for the "newbies" to real estate, here is what it looked like 25 years ago -- Doing the business of real estate in 1985:
BECOMING A REAL ESTATE AGENT
THEN: I took just six weeks to take the required course work for your real estate license--and the sixth week was just the final exam.
NOW:  The requirement for Principles and Practices is up to 60 hours, usually over a 15 week period. Although I did find one real estate "school" that … (59 comments)

Foreclosures: Frustration, Fear...And Now Fraud? - 10/11/10 03:00 PM
As we all know, the economy continues to suffer with high unemployment and high foreclosure rates, and everyone is grasping at the smallest signs that the market is improving. And into this environment, we now have the news of Attorney General Blumenthal initiating a moratorium on foreclosures in Connecticut as one of the 23 states that have a judicial foreclosure process. This overview of recent events, and some of the possible consequenses, are enumerated by Leslie Ebersole as she explains what has led up to the request for a foreclosure moratorium.

Priority One: Gumby and Desert Places - 10/10/10 12:16 AM
Welcome to my Priority One blog series.  I start my week on Active Rain on Sundays with a post about the Christian walk, or something from the Word of God that has been encouragement to me.
Today I was chatting with a friend online, and at the end of our conversation, we exchanged prayer requests. We both asked one another to pray for God's specific direction in areas where things are just not so clear. I thought about my own situation, and hers, and it became clear that we are both experiencing one of those "desert places".
So what is a "desert place"? And … (7 comments)

Do You Need to Repair Your Credit to Get a Better Job? - 10/05/10 08:21 PM
You're out of work and you need a new job; you're getting behind on the bills. Or you may be working, but there's still too much month left at the end of the money. So you start looking for a new job that pays more, or a second job to bridge the gap.
You update your resume and begin submitting it to some promising job offers. The interview process is going well. You're waiting for the final okay, but nothing materializes. What's going on?
After this has happened more than once, you call back and ask a few more questions. Eventually, … (12 comments)

Priority One: Revival and Repentance - 10/03/10 02:22 AM
Welcome to my Priority One series of blog entries.  Each week on Active Rain I start my week with a post about the Christian walk, or something from the Word of God that has been encouragement to me. For almost two years now, there is a small group in my church -- not unlike many others at churches everywhere across the country, I am sure -- that has been meeting weekly to pray for revival. We are asking God to come and visit his people once again. We are looking for another "Great Awakening".
Surely as we look at the state of our … (12 comments)
