blogging: ActiveRain comment volume - 07/27/08 06:32 PM
So I was unpacking my back from the San Francisco Inman Connect conference, going through business cards, other marketing material and such. I picked up a piece of paper with partial survey results from The Center For Real Estate & Social Technologies' blog survey which was handed out at the REBAR camp and had a laugh. Here's the results from one question. As a whole, real estate bloggers received a median of 7 total comments in May 2008. ActiveRain users received a median of 30 total comments. Blogger users received a median of 1 total comment. Moveable Type/TypePad users received a

blogging: Powerful ActiveRain SEO - Money Merge Accounts - 05/12/07 01:41 AM
Just a minute ago I was looking through the statistics from ActiveRain's web traffic logs. In particular I took a look at the main search phrases used when by people that find ActiveRain through search engines. I hadn't looked at this in a while and something at once popped out at me. Top search phrases (May) Top search phrases (April) Scrolling down the list for each month I saw hundreds more people coming in on similar terms such as "money merge accounts", "money merge account scams". So I went to Google and typed in a few of these terms. In all the instances blog posts

blogging: Blogs and Content Resyndication - 02/24/07 01:47 AM
Over the past 24 hours, I've been a part of a rather interesting email thread between about a dozen bloggers started by Greg Swann over at the BloodHoundBlog. It started because content from some blog RSS feeds were being republished on the InmanWiki. Many sites out there that aggregate and republish content from blog RSS feeds in one form or another, the InmanWiki was just one example (technorati, bloglines, squidoo, etc). Sometimes this resyndication cab viewed as a very valuable source of exposure, other times they can be seen as stealing content. This creates a huge grey area around the rules of content syndication. The arguement could even

blogging: Live from New York City - Inman Connect - 01/07/07 11:10 PM
About 6 hours ago I arrived in NYC for the Inman Connect conference. So if I don't respond to emails or if I don't show my face around AR for the next few days, that is why. Just got back from a little get together of real estate bloggers setup by the guys over at the Sellsius real estate blog. About a dozen people were there include Joel Burlsem of real estate blogging, Paul Chaney of Blogging Systems, Mary and John McKnight of RSS Pieces, Pete Flint of Trulia, Brendan King of Point2, Jeff Corbett (the XBroker) and several others. It was nice

blogging: Categorizing posts for the consumer audience - 10/31/06 09:01 PM
As I mentioned in a previous blog post "The consumer connection" we are beginning to find new ways to target content at the consumer audience and ultimately drive more business to our members. Central to this effort is being able to properly categorize consumer oriented posts regionally. These consumer oriented posts can then be pulled together in a way that can be much more easily found by the consumer. About a week ago we put up some regional content pages that aggregate content from our members into information about a community. These pages represent just kinda a prototype or first draft if

blogging: The topic du jour: What's posted in blogs... - 10/19/06 12:43 AM
The topics being discussed on ActiveRain seem to go on waves. Every day or two there seems to be one topic that everyone is blogging about. The last two days the talk has been about what is appropriate for people to be posting on ActiveRain blogs. I've commented on several of these posts, but I thought that I would write a little bit about the subject myself (being the creator of this network and all) Actually I consider the members here to be the true creators of ActiveRain, but I just wanted to sound all powerful for a moment :) First off I wanted to say

blogging: The Carnival has come and gone: Carnival of Real Estate #6 - 08/21/06 06:32 PM
This weeks Carnival of Real Estate ocurred over at the Pine Needle Lawn blog. If you haven't seen my previous posts about the carnival it's basically a list of the top real estate related blog posts that is hosted by a different blogger each week. There weren't any blogs from ActiveRain members this time around, but I didn't submit any myself this week. Hopefully next week a few of our members will submit their best posts, because we do have some very good bloggers on this site. I don't know if I agree with the pick of the week, but I guess

blogging: Joel Burslem revisits ActiveRain - 08/21/06 05:59 PM
I just noticed that Joel Burslem's blog "Future of Real Estate Marketing" (a very good blog I might add) did a post revisiting his take on the ActiveRain Real Estate Network. He had originally reviewed the site probably about 2 weeks after we launched it, when it was just a skeleton of what it is today. Based on that he gave us some pretty low marks, proclaiming "ActiveRain is All Wet". In the 10 weeks since the site has morphed fairly dramatically from being essentially a real estate directory, to being a thriving community of real estate bloggers. The next 10

blogging: Hats off to Ardell of Rain City Guide - 08/19/06 06:01 PM
I just wanted to congratulate Ardell DellaLoggia one the bloggers over the Rain City Guide for being selected as one of the Top 10 Women Real Estate Bloggers. I really enjoy her blogging style, she calls the issues like she see's them, no beating around the bush. Whether you agree with her or not her blogs create for great reading material about the real estate industry. If you haven't heard of her before I suggest you check out both the RainCityGuide.com and her other blog at http://www.searchingseattleblog.com/. I'll have to try reading a few of the other bloggers on the top 10 list when I

blogging: The AOL of real estate weblogging - 08/19/06 12:13 AM
This morning I was looking at the latest blog posts people have made about ActiveRain using bloglines, one the many blog searches out there, and saw this post by Greg Swann of Bloodhound Realty (by the way he has a pretty good blog). In it he says on first investigation ActiveRain is "seemingly a toe-in-the-water experience for technologically-timid Realtors. My initial take, reported back to Jim, was this: "ActiveRain is the AOL of real estate weblogging..."" At first I was a little taken back being compared to AOL. They're the ones responsible for sending out millions of those CD's that were only good for

blogging: Carnival of Real Estate #5 - 08/14/06 11:52 AM
Just a heads up, the August 14th addition of the carnival of real estate is being hosted over at Brownstoner. For those of you that haven't heard about it, it's a way to highlight the best real estate related blog posts each week. Each week its hosted by a different real estate blogger and travels throughout the blogoshere, hence "carnival" being in the name. The carnival of real estate just started up about a month ago but I think it's a pretty cool idea so I hope it continues to gain steam. ActiveRain got mentioned in two places in this weeks carnival,

blogging: Lunch with RainCityGuide and Caleb gets called out - 07/31/06 12:31 PM
Still trying to recap some of my experiences from the Inman Real Estate Connect conference last week. So much to talk about in so little time... On Thursday Caleb and me had lunch with two of the guys (Dustin Luther and Robbie Paplin) behind the Rain City Guide one of the premier real estate blogsites out on the web. They were both extremely fascinating to talk to had some very interesting opinions of the real estate industry. I found Dustin recent metamorphasis very interesting. He is relatively new to the real estate industry, as he says he has officially been involved with it

blogging: Carnival of Real Estate - 07/31/06 11:56 AM
A few weeks ago a new website was launched by Zillow at http://www.carnivalofrealestate.com/ The basic idea is each week they will choose someone to host a "Blog Carnival" that highlights the best real estate related blog postings made by bloggers over the previous week. There are also "Blog Carnival" sites for many other non real estate related topics. Anyways the reason I bring it up, is I've seen several posts on this site which I believe qualify as some of the better real estate related blog postings. So I'm going to do my part by submitting them to the Carnival of Real

blogging: Stan Mackey and the power of the "Blogosphere" - 07/01/06 11:45 AM
If you don't already know one of ActiveRain's members, Stan Mackey is now famous... Why? He's selling Robert Scoble's house in Bothell, WA. If you haven't heard of Mr. Scoble is probably the Internet's best known and most read blogger. He posted an interesting little blurb on his site about Stan Mackey and how he gets 65% of his consumer traffic via his blog at http://www.bloggingseattle.blogspot.com. Well, guess what happened over the next several days, not only was that little blurb read by hundreds of thousands of Scoble's readers, but it was also talked about and commented on over a dozen other bloggers throughout the blogosphere, including
