inman news: Accepting the Inman Innovators Award - 08/09/07 09:10 AM
We already put up a blurb last Friday that ActiveRain won the Inman News innovators award for "Most Innovative Real Estate Media Site" I finally was able to dig up a picture of the presentation so I thought I'd post it here. Lucky for them they didn't let me give a speech. "I'd like to start off by thanking all forty two thousand members of the ActiveRain Real Estate Network. Lets start alphabetically with..." Lots more innovation to come over the next year, one trophy might get lonely on it's own. -Matt Heaton (ActiveRain CEO)

inman news: Blogs and Content Resyndication - 02/24/07 01:47 AM
Over the past 24 hours, I've been a part of a rather interesting email thread between about a dozen bloggers started by Greg Swann over at the BloodHoundBlog. It started because content from some blog RSS feeds were being republished on the InmanWiki. Many sites out there that aggregate and republish content from blog RSS feeds in one form or another, the InmanWiki was just one example (technorati, bloglines, squidoo, etc). Sometimes this resyndication cab viewed as a very valuable source of exposure, other times they can be seen as stealing content. This creates a huge grey area around the rules of content syndication. The arguement could even

inman news: More real estate user generated content - Inman News Wiki - 02/02/07 11:47 AM
User generated content is continuing to be a big topic in the on-line real estate world. The most recent example, Inman News launched their Real Estate Wiki, which Brad says is "The World's Largest Real Estate Encyclopedia" They have seeded this wiki with over 5k past articles and pieces of content from the Inman News archives, but plan on real estate professionals as being the main contributors to the site. Zillow already has their own real estate wiki and I'm sure there are several others out there, but I get the feeling that the one on Inman News will probably get the most

inman news: Speaking at Real Estate Connect NYC - 11/24/06 01:19 PM
It looks like Inman News recently updated their information on the Inman Real Estate Connect NYC conference. I feel lucky to have been invited to speak on the subject "How Can Social Networking Lift Real Estate?" Also on the social networking panel will be Craig Newmark (founder of CraigsList), Niki Scevak (CEO of HomeThinking) and Elizabeth Spiers (Founder of Dead Horse Media). The panel also happens to follow the key note speech by Seth Godin who's books such as the Purple Cow had a major impact on developing the ideas behind ActiveRain. Another ActiveRain contributor Joel Burslem (Future of Real Estate Marketing) will also be on

inman news: Inman news article uses ActiveRain as a source (again...) - 10/30/06 04:18 PM
Caleb, just forwarded me a link to an article titles "What to do when buyers won't make a move" (registration may be required) Like several recent articles, Inman news has used ActiveRain members as sources. In fact many members will probably recognize all 3 pictures in the article, as AR members. Inman is just one example of the wider media reading the blogs on ActiveRain and contacting our members to get their views on current issues. Personally, I think it's pretty cool that we're helping to give individuals an ability to voice their opinions on a much larger stage...

inman news: Inman: Real estate technology takes off - 08/08/06 01:58 PM
Inman news just put out their first article of a three part series on "what industry insiders and participants expect will drive change and technology development in the next few years". The first article titled "Carpe diem: Real estate tech takes off", seemed to narrow the focus onto how these insiders see technology innovation being driven by consumers wanting and expecting access to greater amounts of information online. Where they find this information will affect who they work with when buying or selling a house. A couple of quotes I found particularly interesting, and my comments: Marty Frame, CIO Fidelity National Title: "There will be an evolution

inman news: Real estate looks more transparent in crystal ball - 07/31/06 04:40 PM
I was going to write up a good summary of what was being said at Inman Real Estate Connect about how consumers will find listing data in the future. But Inman News put up a good summary today titled "Real estate looks more transparent in crystal ball" I tend to agree with the speakers that for good or bad, listing data will become much more open in the future. I just disagree with them on the timing, there is still a hard battle to be fought and we are several years from a resolution. Some brokers seem to realize the writting

inman news: Lead conversion and changing lead definitions - 07/30/06 02:09 PM
One of the ongoing themes at the Inman Real Estate Connect conference was how to turn and Internet generated lead into closed deals. While in the past there had been a huge emphasis on simply generating more leads, it is now on how to turn a lead into a closed deal. I heard several people say, "My company is generating hundreds of leads per week, but we don't know what to do with them." There are two approaches you can take to this problem. Improved lead generation: There has been way too much emphasis on the quantity of leads generated as opposed to quality. This was
