real estate conference: Live from New York City - Inman Connect - 01/07/07 11:10 PM
About 6 hours ago I arrived in NYC for the Inman Connect conference. So if I don't respond to emails or if I don't show my face around AR for the next few days, that is why. Just got back from a little get together of real estate bloggers setup by the guys over at the Sellsius real estate blog. About a dozen people were there include Joel Burlsem of real estate blogging, Paul Chaney of Blogging Systems, Mary and John McKnight of RSS Pieces, Pete Flint of Trulia, Brendan King of Point2, Jeff Corbett (the XBroker) and several others. It was nice

real estate conference: Speaking at Real Estate Connect NYC - 11/24/06 01:19 PM
It looks like Inman News recently updated their information on the Inman Real Estate Connect NYC conference. I feel lucky to have been invited to speak on the subject "How Can Social Networking Lift Real Estate?" Also on the social networking panel will be Craig Newmark (founder of CraigsList), Niki Scevak (CEO of HomeThinking) and Elizabeth Spiers (Founder of Dead Horse Media). The panel also happens to follow the key note speech by Seth Godin who's books such as the Purple Cow had a major impact on developing the ideas behind ActiveRain. Another ActiveRain contributor Joel Burslem (Future of Real Estate Marketing) will also be on

real estate conference: NAR conference summary - Day 4 (it's almost over) - 11/16/06 02:00 AM
See My NAR conference summary - Day 1 See My NAR conference Summary - Day 2 See My NAR conference summary - Day 3 I was actually able to get a decent amount of sleep and spent a good portion of Monday walking the trade-show floor. For those of you that haven't been to an NAR conference the "floor" is simply massive with rows on hundreds of booths. Because there are literally dozens of companies competing for attention in the same product space (for example there was probably 50 website providers) the vendors often resort to gimics catch peoples attention. At times

real estate conference: My NAR conference summary - Day 3 - 11/16/06 01:21 AM
See My NAR conference summary - Day 1 See My NAR conference Summary - Day 2 Sunday was my third day down at the NAR conference, and I was still somehow running on about 3 hours of sleep per night. Like Saturday I spent much of the day working the tradeshow floor, talking to vendors and taking part in meetings with several companies. All in all it was a pretty productive day, and I think ActiveRain may have several announcements to make soon regarding some strategic partnerships. The highlight of the day was having dinner with Dustin Luther, the man behind the

real estate conference: My NAR conference Summary - Day 2 - 11/16/06 01:02 AM
See My NAR conference summary - Day 1 Saturday morning at 8:00 am we had the first ActiveRain member get together at the New Orleans convention center. Due to my red eye flight Thursday night and the two trips out to Bourbon Street Friday night, I think I had slept a total of 5 hours in the past 2 days. I got to the convention center and began looking near the entrance to the tradeshow for ActiveRain members and immediatly recognized Teri Isner and Sharon Simms sitting at a table with about a dozen other members and soon to be ActiveRain members. real estate conference: My NAR conference summary - Day 1 - 11/16/06 12:32 AM
Most of the rainers have already contributed there thoughts on the big NAR conference in New Orleans, but I thought better late than never... First off I made the mistake in procrastinating on purchasing my plane tickets. This left my only affordable option, leaving Seattle at 6:00 pm Thursday evening and arriving in New Orleans at 7:00 am on Friday morning(with layovers in Las Vegas and Houston). Starting off a four day conference dead tired was probably not the best plan of action. After napping for most of the Friday morning I head out for the convention center, was able to sneak my way onto

real estate conference: Find me in New Orleans - 11/07/06 11:48 AM
It's only a couple days away. I'll be at the NAR conference in New Orleans this Friday through next Monday. ActiveRain doesn't have a booth, but I'll be making the rounds for 4 days. My goal is to continue learning about the industry from the agents viewpoint and continue building support for what we are doing at ActiveRain. We have an informal ActiveRain get together 8:00 am, Saturday morning, just to the right of the tradeshow floor entrance. I know of at least a dozen members that plan on showing up at that time, but I suspect there will be many more. If you don't have a chance

real estate conference: Real estate looks more transparent in crystal ball - 07/31/06 04:40 PM
I was going to write up a good summary of what was being said at Inman Real Estate Connect about how consumers will find listing data in the future. But Inman News put up a good summary today titled "Real estate looks more transparent in crystal ball" I tend to agree with the speakers that for good or bad, listing data will become much more open in the future. I just disagree with them on the timing, there is still a hard battle to be fought and we are several years from a resolution. Some brokers seem to realize the writting

real estate conference: Lunch with RainCityGuide and Caleb gets called out - 07/31/06 12:31 PM
Still trying to recap some of my experiences from the Inman Real Estate Connect conference last week. So much to talk about in so little time... On Thursday Caleb and me had lunch with two of the guys (Dustin Luther and Robbie Paplin) behind the Rain City Guide one of the premier real estate blogsites out on the web. They were both extremely fascinating to talk to had some very interesting opinions of the real estate industry. I found Dustin recent metamorphasis very interesting. He is relatively new to the real estate industry, as he says he has officially been involved with it

real estate conference: Lead conversion and changing lead definitions - 07/30/06 02:09 PM
One of the ongoing themes at the Inman Real Estate Connect conference was how to turn and Internet generated lead into closed deals. While in the past there had been a huge emphasis on simply generating more leads, it is now on how to turn a lead into a closed deal. I heard several people say, "My company is generating hundreds of leads per week, but we don't know what to do with them." There are two approaches you can take to this problem. Improved lead generation: There has been way too much emphasis on the quantity of leads generated as opposed to quality. This was

real estate conference: Back from Inman Real Estate Connect - 07/29/06 07:09 PM
I just returned from the Inman Real Estate Connect conference in San Francisco. I had been planning to blog about the conference while it was still ongoing, but due to uh, business obligations I found I wasn't making it back to my hotel room until two or three in the morning and in no condition to blog :) I first want to thank Brad Inman (pictured left) for putting on a great and informative event. It was my first Inman Connect and it certainly won't be my last. There were many very good speakers and panels representing a variety of view points both

real estate conference: Road trip to Inman and empowering the real estate professional - 07/26/06 10:13 AM
On Monday, Caleb and me set out on a roadtrip to the Inman Real Estate Connect in San Francisco. Why did we not fly? Basically the concept was that we had been talking about a roadtrip for a while (outside of work), it never happened, so we'd instead take one to the conference. While I feel I have lots of great ideas, we decided about halfway into the 12 hour drive from Seattle to San Francisco, that driving probably wasn't one of them. Being on the road for that amount of time did give us a lot of opportunity to brainstorm ideas for the ActiveRain Real Estate Network.

real estate conference: Off to San Francisco - Inman Conference - 07/24/06 04:09 PM
Caleb and me are off to the Inman Real Estate Conference in San Francisco. We will be online, off and on throughout the week and will try to keep members up to date on the interesting news from down there. In the meantime Ben (lead developer) will be holding down the fort as far as the ActiveRain Real Estate Network goes.

real estate conference: Inman Real Estate Connect - San Francisco - 07/13/06 01:10 PM
A little later this month we (Caleb and myself) will be attending the Inman Real Estate Connect conference in San Francisco. Unlike the big NAR get togethers, which mainly target realtors, the Inman Real Estate Connect conferences tend to be about the movers and shakers in the real estate industry. It "will draw upwards of 2000 executives, decision makers, opinion leaders, top brokers, mega-agents, trendsetters, press, analysts and investors". I was curious if any members of the ActiveRain Real Estate Network are planning on attending? Let us know if you are, because it would be great to be able to get together while we're down there and
