Short term rentals now allowed at Pacific Shores condos on Maui
I have always liked the Pacific Shores complex in Kihei Maui, with its 2 buildings and swimming pool.  The location is right across the street from the beach, yet there are plenty of apartments in the back building away from the road and traffic.
The Pacific Shores Home Owners Association (HOA) has recently voted to allow short term rentals which is good news for owners and buyers.  Expect to see prices go up.  Generally speaking, a condo that is "vacation rentable" has more value than one which isn't.

Getting paid to go to the beach
Some people have all the luck... getting paid to go to the beach!  There's the pro surfers and windsurfers who have sponsors to pay for their equipment.  They win money on the contest circuit, not to mention big bucks from advertising endorsements.  Here on the north shore of Maui we get plenty of professionals who train in the water.
Then you have the lifeguards, wow what a nice job!  I had to drop in on a client who works at the beach and get his approval on a contract, since he wasn't able to … (12 comments)

Snow tops Haleakala Mountain on Maui
We got some snow on Maui!  And it stayed more than one day this time.  On average, we get snow on Maui about every 5 years or so.  This time it was quite a lot of snow coverage, much more than the usual dusting.  This great shot is by Giampaolo Cammarota, taken from upcountry Kula Maui.
The Maui News reports that the road to the 10,000 ft summit of Haleakala was closed above the 7,000 foot elevation before dawn Monday due to unsafe driving conditions... high winds and ice.  The road was reopened after 11 a.m. on Monday once it was safe … (22 comments)
