Rates are based on each $1,000 of assessed value, but there are some good exemptions available for owner occupants, veterans, disabled veterans and others. Really, we have low rates and it's often a nice surprise if you're coming from an urban area. A Day at the Beach on Maui Last weekend we celebrated our wedding anniversary, at the Maui Prince Resort, which made us take some time off, and GO TO THE BEACH! After living here for 28 years, I have to admit that going to the beach is not one of my top priorities any more. Somewhere along the way, other things became more important, like being a homeowner and taking care of "the most important investment in your life". We have been very fortunate, and have a wonderful home on Maui that needs a fair amount of maintenance... but we enjoy it … (36 comments)

(This is my entry into the TOP 5 contest suggested by Jo-Ann Smith.) It's your wedding anniversary, and you want to celebrate a whole lot of years together, so what do you do? This year we treated ourselves to a trip to a Maui resort - the Maui Prince Hotel in Makena. It was a first for us, to stay at this swank hotel, and we had a great time. I would highly recommend treating yourselves to something like this on any special occasion. Here's my top 5 list, to enjoy the experience.
