Dollar volume is way up from last year and almost doubled! An 816 sf home with detached garage on a quarter acre near the center of town. 3955 Lepo St. sold for $440,000. 2 acres in the country with a 2-story 2BD/2BA home just over 1,000 sf. 438 Kaupakalua Rd. sold for $510,000. 2.88 acres with a 2-story 1BD/1BA home of less than 1,000 sf. 56 Hoomalolo Pl. closed at $743,000. There's something about a blue sky that makes you smile. Maui blue skies!
After spending a few days in the cloudy gloomy weather of Vancouver, it was nice to come back to Maui and see bright blue skies and puffy white clouds, and feel the sun on my skin. It's something we take for granted here in Hawaii, and I can really appreciate it now. Please enjoy these sunny skies if you're needing some sunshine in your day.

My Haiku Maui HI garden update for January 2012
What are we eating from our Haiku Maui garden this month?
After a very wet couple of months in November and December we are now having to water the garden every day! There's plenty of new starts going in and more beans sprouting up. It's a fair amount of work, and there's always weeding to be done, but we really enjoy the results.
Here are the veggies we can just pick from the garden this month:

What does a VW have to do with Maui real estate you ask? I snapped this in front of my Wailuku residential listing the other day at final walk through. It's a classic Volkswagen Bug and check out the plates!
The owners of the SOLD home are very happy to be closing a sale in this tough economy, and walking away with money in the bank. It was a quick sale to a cash buyer from the mainland. The wife said "I can't believe it sold so fast!"

I showed this Kula Maui home to a buyer client the other day. Actually it's 2 homes, a main house and a detached cottage on a large lot of over half an acre. It's a bank owned property - an REO as they are called. Priced at $527,000 it seems like a pretty good price for Kula, which is usually an expensive place to buy a home on Maui. DaKine Hawaii sells clothing and accessories for the surfer crowd. This company started out in Haiku, moved to Hood River Oregon, and was bought out by Billabong a few years ago. We have a new law in Hawaii - making it illegal to possess, sell or import fireworks, except for firecrackers - on Oahu only. Of course it only applies to ordinary families and not public events. This is an attempt to reduce fires, smoke and injuries which are all too common when we celebrate July 4th and New Year's Eve the traditional way, with plenty of noise! This poor orchid plant was tossed aside after it bloomed, and was neglected in a rainy part of the garden. I was quite surprised to find it blooming today! I really should take better care of my orchid plants, but luckily here in Haiku they sort of take care of themselves.
