Free Kayak Lessons on Maui this Friday May 27, 2011
The County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation is offering free kayak lessons to anyone who wants to learn. The free lessons will be between 8:00 am and 2:00 pm, at Kanaha Beach Park on the north shore, by the airport (see map below). Kanaha Park is famous as the best beach for beginner and advanced windsurfers, and is nicely upgraded with restrooms, outdoor showers, and picnic areas. north shore: Mokulele Highway on Maui is now OPEN - 4 lane highway going my way - 06/02/08 04:59 PM
Wow - they have finally finished building out the old Mokulele Highway from 2 lanes to 4 lanes. It only took them 6 years to create the extra 2 lanes along this 6.5 mile stretch... no streams,gulches or freeways to cross, no buildings to relocate... just level vacant land. Talk about "Maui Time"!

Paia Maui Friday evening update
So I was working in Paia at our office, Jim Sanders Realty, and it was a pretty good Friday afternoon...sunny and warm outside, nice and cool inside the office. I was getting caught up on a lot of things. During the afternoon I notice some tables going up on the sidewalk outside in front of the Morning Glories Internet Cafe. I thought it was another weekend blowout sale at the Simmer Style surf shop next door to the cafe.

Here on Maui we have Realtor Caravans every week. On Thursdays we cover the north shore and upcountry areas. I blogged about the Haiku Caravan previously, which happens on the 2nd Thursday each month.
Fidelity National Title & Escrow of Hawaii graciously provide this valuable service for us, and coordinate the event. We meet at Casanova's Restaurant in Makawao at 8:30 in the morning. They give us a hand-out with the list of new upcountry properties to see, with a map on the back to help find our way to all of these new listings.

Maui Weather Report - Still Sunny
I had to laugh at my nephew yesterday when he gave the Maui weather report as - "mostly perfect with a slight chance of imperfection." He's out here visiting for his gazillionth time, and was commenting to our other visitors who are here for their first time. And you know, the funny thing is, he's right!

Haiku is a small town on the north shore of Maui, east of the airport and main city of Kahului along Highway 36, the Hana Highway.
Haiku is mostly agricultural with many small farms and agricultural subdivisions. Some crops that are grown are bananas and other fruits, tropical flowers, orchids, palms, and pasture land for cattle, horses and goats.
There is a small Haiku town center with commercial activity at the corner of Haiku Road and Kokomo Road. Two old canneries have been converted to mixed commercial and light industrial use.

WHAT - A new street!
There's a new roadsign up on the Hana Highway at about the 15 mile marker. I notice it as I drive by each day. Remember the new paved roadsat Peahi Farms? Well they even got a street name already, and it's called Kai Huki Street.
This is just the beginning of a great new agricultural subdivision at Opana Point, on the north shore of Maui. New owners will enjoy a rural lifestyle by being part of the larger "farm" which will consist mostly of pastures. These will be great properties for … (3 comments)

Peahi Farms on Maui gets an upgrade. Paving crews have been busy making miles of smooth black roads into this new planned community subdivision at Opana Point on Maui's north shore. During the months of October and November the blacktop has gone down and the entrance to the Hana Highway is almost complete. Road work is a major improvement for this north shore Agricultural oceanfront subdivision. Sales will surely be moving smoothly now with easy access to the string of cliff front vacant parcels.
