It's REALLY windy outside right now. The wind generator is cranking out power and the inverter is humming. I've got the clothes dryer running at night! That's a luxury when you're off the grid, you just don't do it unless you have power to burn. The batteries are topped up and there's more power coming in. We have a Bergey wind turbine mounted on a 60 foot pole, in our horse pasture. It produces 1,000 watts at full capacity. It's not mounted on that shed in the picture, it's behind it, held up with guy wires. … (25 comments)

HONOPOU VALLEY - MAUI
You may not know of this hidden valley down Honopou Road on Maui's north shore. Some of the land has belonged to Hawaiian families for generations and goes back to the "great mahele". There is a lot of history here, with ancient rock walls surrounding taro paddies that are watered from Honopou Stream. This is where a large population of Hawaiians called home, back before the the sea-faring Europeans landed here with their diseases and land-owning practices.
