real estate: Keauhou Kona shoreline on the Big Island of Hawaii - 08/14/11 05:05 PM
Keauhou Kona shoreline on the Big Island of Hawaii We are over on the Big Island of Hawaii for a few days of relaxation, staying in the Keauhou Kona area along the south coast. It's quite warm here with daytime temperatures in the 80's, and no real breeze to speak of. Though it's beautiful and calm we kind of miss our Haiku Maui home with the cooling trade winds and gentle rain showers. Sure, real estate prices are lower here, but you get what you pay for. We saw some of those super-low priced lots in Mountain View on the Hilo

real estate: Aloha Friday - classic VW on Maui - 06/17/11 11:23 PM
Aloha Friday - classic VW on Maui What does a VW have to do with Maui real estate you ask? I snapped this in front of my Wailuku residential listing the other day at final walk through. It's a classic Volkswagen Bug and check out the plates! The owners of the SOLD home are very happy to be closing a sale in this tough economy, and walking away with money in the bank. It was a quick sale to a cash buyer from the mainland. The wife said "I can't believe it sold so fast!" Buyers and sellers can be

real estate: Wake Up - we're here to see the house. - 04/02/09 08:57 PM
Wake Up - we're here to see the house.... Today I was showing some Paia Maui homes for sale to some new buyers, let's call them John and Sue. We managed to get into one home on very short notice, the agent gave us the lock box number and said it was OK. It looked a little like someone might be home... pickup truck in the driveway, junk in the yard. I thought it was going to be vacant. So I knocked on the door and got no response. It was about 11 in the morning. I opened up the front door

real estate: I've been a geek too long - tomorrow's another day - 08/30/08 06:23 PM
Dear Diary, Don't you hate it when you can't get it all done? Yesterday was a long day of responding to calls and emails, showing properties and writing an offer on a Kihei REO. Sometimes there's just not enough time to get it all done before midnight. I could sure use a clone, or maybe an assistant, at times. Plenty of buyers have been calling lately and it feels like the real estate tide might be turning. It seems I spend all my waking hours tethered to the computer, like it's some kind of appendage. What did we ever do BC (before computers)? How do people

real estate: Google Earth images - can we use them in the MLS? - 07/03/08 11:31 PM
Google Earth - Don't you think this is a wonderful tool to use for real estate? Do you take "snapshots" to send to buyers who aren't from the area? It really helps to show the location of country properties for sale, especially if there's some topography. I see that our local Hawaii TV news uses Google Earth images. I also see some agents putting Google Earth images into their MLS pictures. Has anyone had any negative feedback from doing this yet? What's the word - is Google "down with it"? Pictured above is an image looking north, along the north shore of Maui. This

real estate: Patsy Takemoto Mink Post Office - Paia Maui HI, 96779 - 12/29/07 11:21 PM
PAIA MAUI HAWAII 96779 In 2003, our Paia Post Office was dedicated to Patsy Takemoto Mink, the congresswoman who was born in Paia on December 6, 1927. She grew up on Maui, and was educated on Oahu during a difficult time. Patsy passed away on September 28 2002, but will always be remembered by the people of Paia, every time they go to their post office. She grew up in Hawaii during World War II and was often the victim of racial prejudice because she was of Japanese descent. For her significant contributions towards equal rights in this country, Congress commissioned a likeness of her image

real estate: Ho'okipa Beach Park - Maui HI - December 2007 - 12/11/07 01:51 PM
Today was another beautiful day on Maui - the Kona storm has passed and things are back to normal here on the north shore. This was the scene at Ho'okipa Beach Park, with the usual smattering of beach-goers, surfers, windsurfers and kite-boarders. Waves were mid size, nothing like the 20-footers we had last week. With the warm water and gentle tradewinds, it was a perfect day for going to the beach. I stopped in with my dad and we both took some pictures. It didn't long to get a bunch of good shots, and we were back on our
