Conch shell blowing at sunset in Kihei Maui - short video Kihei Maui - Every day at sunset the tourists gather on the rooftop of the oceanfront Menehune Shores condo building to watch the sun sink into the sea, and experience the ceremony of blowing the conch shell! So we played tourist the other day and went along with our Canadian visitors to see for ourselves. We walked across South Kihei Road to the endless beach, where others were getting ready to enjoy the sunset. A little bit of history from Maui.... Kihei Wharf was first built in 1899 by Henry Baldwin, to service his new Kihei Sugar Plantation in the area now known as Kihei. The raw sugar product was shipped out to California for processing, and supplies were brought in here. People started using the wharf for fishing, and small boats would come and go. Plantation housing was built across from the wharf to house the workers from Japan, Portugal, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines. Looking back 12 months in our MLS, here's what I find... Sold in Kihei, oceanfront: 3016 S. Kihei Rd. sold for $8,000,000 on 8/15/16. Originally listed for $12,000,000 the previous October, once the price came down to around $9,000,000 a serious cash buyer made his move. I'm on a roll to put together some short movies. I like trying to keep it to the 1-minute format because nobody wants to spend a lot of time looking at a video. This latest offering was quickly "filmed" one morning with my Flip camera, and then produced the next night. SOUTH KIHEI ROAD - Kihei KIHEI GOOGLE MAP Maui's friendly resort town on the south shore. On Maui's south shore you'll find the resort areas of Kihei, Wailea and Makena, all rolled into one zipcode.... 96753.
