Free Kayak Lessons on Maui this Friday May 27, 2011
The County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation is offering free kayak lessons to anyone who wants to learn. The free lessons will be between 8:00 am and 2:00 pm, at Kanaha Beach Park on the north shore, by the airport (see map below). Kanaha Park is famous as the best beach for beginner and advanced windsurfers, and is nicely upgraded with restrooms, outdoor showers, and picnic areas. Getting paid to go to the beach
Some people have all the luck... getting paid to go to the beach! There's the pro surfers and windsurfers who have sponsors to pay for their equipment. They win money on the contest circuit, not to mention big bucks from advertising endorsements. Here on the north shore of Maui we get plenty of professionals who train in the water.

HO'OKIPA BEACH PARK DRIVEBY - a short (minute and a half) movie compiled from some video and slides, with an acoustic slack key soundtrack added. You will get to see the beach, some windsurfers, and a nice rainbow over the park. For those of you who don't know... Ho'okipa Beach is on the north shore of Maui, and it's famous as a prime surfing and windsurfing spot.

Here on Maui we enjoy prevailing Tradewinds out of the northeast. These warm winds blow fairly consistently almost every day. It's one of the reasons why windsurfers and kiteboarders love it here, along with the warm ocean water and wave action. The tradewinds are so consistent that many of us are using this resource to power our homes - by way of wind turbines. MAUI NORTH SHORE SURF
Today they are calling for waves to reach 30 feet on the north shore of Maui. Here are some pictures of the waves at midday, Feb 14, 2008. They get a lot bigger than this at times. This is the north shore of Maui - between Paia town and Ho'okipa Beach Park. Further out to the east will bring you to the famous surf break called JAWS.
