The portability portions of Ammendment 1 that was just passed is retroactive to January 1st of 2007 . This means if you had a homestead exemption on your previous home last year (2007) and purchased a new home in 2007, you now may qualify for portability which can mean a substantial tax break. If your property is currently homesteaded, you do not need to file for the double homestead exemption. Two economists are broadcasting some great news for the Tampa Bay area. In recent seminars, economist Dr. Hank Fishkind is stating that the bottom has been reached in some parts of Tampa Bay and is near bottom in the remainder. Economist Dr. Ted Jones is stating that Tampa Bay has reached the bottom and is already experiencing recovery in our area. Florida was the first to experience the decline and is leading the way to recovery. Tampa Bay is leading Florida in home sales, so does that make us one of the first recovering markets in the state???

TAMPA - Tuesday, Florida voters sent a message to politicians at all levels of state government -- they want lower property taxes. With more than half of the votes counted Tuesday night, Amendment 1 passed with 64 percent. Read More
 
Florida Real Estate Tax News Upate... Your Florida real estate property taxes most likely went down. Florida residents will soon receive their "truth in millage" statements that give property owners information on next year's property taxes. But this year, almost 94 percent of Florida state homeowners will see some savings thanks to a new law passed during July's special session of the Florida Legislature. Counties in which property taxes rose the most over the past few years will see the greatest reduction of 9 percent. TRIM (truth in millage) notices can be detailed and hard to decipher, however. To calculate your personal savings, compare two columns: "Your Property Taxes Last Year" tells you how much you currently pay; "Your Taxes if PROPOSED Budget Change is Made" tells you how much the city or county plans to charge next year.
