New Alexandria Farmer's Market to Open in Arlandria at 4 Mile Run - 05/25/10 09:47 PM
The newest farmer's market in Alexandria will soon be open in Arlandria and will be formally known as the 4 Mile Farmer's and Artisans Market. The market will be open on Sunday's from 8am to 1pm, at 4109 Mt. Vernon Avenue in the old Duron building. The first market day is set for June 20 with a minimum of five vendors. This will be a nice supplement to the more familiar Saturday markets, especially for Del Ray residents.

You Can Fool Some of the People Some of the Time . . . . A garage owner in New Mexico was sick and tired of thugs breaking into his shop to steal tools, car parts, etc., so he came up with this idea. He put the word out that he had a new Mexican Lion that would attack anyone who broke in or climbed his fence. Would be thieves could see the e "lion" from a distance - and kept their own distance.

Yes, it's true, this absolutely terrific video about three local Del Ray businesses - Cheesetique, Caboose, and Let's Meat on the Avenue - has made it to the finals of the "I Am Free Enterprise" contest sponsored by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Conceived, directed and filmed by local resident Meredith Bragg, the video is just one of 5 vying for the top prize out of over 100 entries. And that's where YOU come in. We need you to vote. Getting Rid of Pesky Mosquitoes - 05/15/10 01:41 PM
Just as the days grow longer and air turns warmer - and many of us are beginning to spend extended hours outside - along come those pesky flying annoyances - MOSQUITOES! Our local neighborhood list serv, the font of all useful information, has been full of back and forth on the best ways of getting rid of these regular visitors.
One of our neighbors, Eric Graves, technology guru by day and avid gardener by night, had by far the most cogent post on natural ways to eliminate welcoming environments for mosquitoes. Eric is graciously allowing us to share his (7 comments)

The Schuyler Hamilton Jones Skatepark, just off Duke Street anler d Quaker Lane, is the only facility of its kind in the Alexandria area. Located next to Luckett Field on Wheeler Avenue, the park provides a structured environment where boys and girls can test their skills and aspire to Rodney Mullen or Tony Hawk status.
Built by the City of Alexandria in 2003 in response to complaints by city merchants located near Alexandria's Market Plaza - where the expanse of brick and concrete was irresistible to skaters - the park is free and open for unsupervised, skate-at-your-own-risk use. At (1 comments)

Three Del Ray businesses - Cheesetique, Caboose and Let's Meat on the Avenue are the local stars in a Chamber of Commerce video contest designed to promote free enterprise. In January the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's American Free Enterprise: Dream Big campaign launched the "I Am Free Enterprise" contest to honor America's current and future entrepreneurs. Contestants were asked to create a 3-minute video explaining their free enterprise story – the successful launch of a business, the invention of an innovative product, or how their idea will generate new jobs to boost the economy.
